1. These aren't cheap but they're pretty good apparently: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44861 And IIRC, Prosebass has some interesting Artec pick ups that he fits in his custom build basses. Have alook here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=71

    My Wal
Have you looked in the control cavity yet? There is often a bit of masking tape with some more details about the bass, woods etc.
I think they only started doing that with the Custom models, from about 1981/2 onwards... More information here: http://www4.cs.fau.de/~koesters/Privat/Wal/walspec.html and here: http://www.trevorandthea.eclipse.co.uk/wal_history.htm
  3.
However i think if i wanted a new Jazz bass i'd give Prosebass a call, certainly looks like he puts more pride into his work than a lot of bigger manufacturers.
+1 Have thought that very same thing myself recently....
  4. I bought one of these NE1 pedals recently on here as I'd always fancied trying one out and I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds and how useful it is.. Because it is a sweepable 'Q' type frequency, it's like having an Alembic or Wal Custom tone control at your fingertips. For some songs in our set, I can change the sound so easily from something very Jazz Bass like to something very Rickenbacker 4001 like really quickly. Very useful when doing 'A Town Called Malice'.. Good luck with the sale!
  5.
No, no, no. 1. Does it have a famous name on the headstock? 2. Does it have kudos in the bass playing community? 3. I agree on 3. 4. Can I get it in the house under the wife-dar?
No. 4 especially!! Must say that I voted No.4 in the OP's poll - it's what plays/feels/sounds right that matters IMO.. I've had loads of big brand name basses in the past and have a few now, but that doesn't mean anything at the end of the day if you don't enjoy it when you pick up the instrument and play it. I had a Fender '66 Jazz about 14 years ago and I just didn't like it, so I sold it on.. Conversely, I had a short-scale, cheap old Kay bass some years ago that I sold and I still wish I had it because it was great fun to play..
  6. Just bought back my SWR 210 that I sold to Jon last year.. Happily, it's in just the same condition as it was when i sold it to him 6 months ago. Anyway, the whole transaction was very pleasant; lovely cup of tea, got to try out some of Jon's very nice basses and spent far too long (probably) talking about playing styles, technique and just about anything bass-related. Most importantly though, Jon is a really brilliant chap who knows his stuff and is a real pleasure to deal with! Must do it again sometime Jon!!! Nik
  7. Hi Mark I have a Roscoe Beck V and it's a fantastic bass! I've never tried the four-string model but as it has the same pick ups and electronics, I imagine it sounds pretty similar to the five.. Anyway, these bases offer a lot of tonal options because of the pick-up selector, the series/parallel switches and the tone control itself which is very useful.. However, because it's a passive bass, the output is quite low and that can be a problem if you're switching between basses during a gig for example. But the pay-off in terms of tone is worth it! There's some useful reference about the Five String model here that you may find useful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Roscoe_Beck_Bass http://www.roscoebeck.com/Gear.aspx http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...e+5-String/10/1 Hope that helps? Nik
  8. That was quick!! Not surprised though at that price....
  9.
I used to have a Triad - great cab
+1 I still have one and I love it! Always wanted to add another, but I have an SWR 210 to go with it now, otherwise I would have been very tempted by this! Anyway, the Triads are great cabs, lighter in weight than my old Peavey 410TVX and have a great full-range sound.. Good luck with the sale
  10. Looks like a great job has been done on this bass! I doubt it'll ever make you happy as it is so why not just put in a J-type bridge p/u from Andy? Then it'll look great and sound great! Good luck with it whatever you decide to do...
  11. That's a real bargain Peter! Some great reviews for the amp here on Harmony Central: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...-500H+Head/10/1 Good luck with the sale...
  12.
I never thought i'd say these words, but I like the 6 string single-cut. Nice pair.
+1
  13. Just watched the Victor Wooten stuff on Bass Player TV and, even though I'm not a fan of his per se, his talk/masterclass was absolutely brilliant! That guy really has a unique approach to life...
  14.
BTW, the pics are good but for great pics you really need to borrow one of Lysdexia's guitar stands!
They should sell those guitar stands everywhere! Back on topic, great looking bass Russ.. Good luck with the sale!
  15. Amazing collection Steve! Just love that '78 Ray and the 2 Celinders.. Wouldn't like to be your roadie though if you were going on a long tour!

    My Wal
Got a 1979 Pro1e recently.. was fitted with a Wal custom neck at some point, very nice. The serial number is not listed in the Wal notebook along with 3 others of the same period... some kind of custom order or something Apparently Pete Stevens wanted to buy it back from the previous owner...! Anyway, mine goes up to 11... do all the Pro1's do this? Edit: Pardon my ignorance!
Yes - they all went up to 11! Wal & Pete were way ahead of the game in the trivial rock 'n' roll humour stakes...
  17. That's a very sexy collection of basses! Congratulations....
  18. I carry a Zoom B2 1.u which has a DI out as my 'back-up'.. Fortunately, I've had no need of it so far but you never know!
  19.
Very interesting - And what a musician! I like the idea of the masking tape across the strings near the bridge. Very akin to Victor Wooten's hair band at the top of the neck. Rich.
+1 Great tone and technique and she really has done it! There's so much common sense in what she's saying there.. reminded me of when I saw Herbie Flowers last year and he was talking about his life and his work.. Thanks for the link...
  20. The MM 5 looks fantastic - lots of mojo as phsycoandy said!
  21. Very nice collection.. How do they sound?
  22.
Bad news I'm afraid, with the Seymour Duncan the devaluing is immense. I'll give you £20 for the bass and take the original pup off your hands for a fiver. Can't be fairer than that. In seriousness. I'd say over 2K, definately, and pics would be nice.
Wow - that much! And yes, pics would be nice...
  23.
Of course, somewhat, this is beauty in the eye of the owner, but there are enough performances and recordings out there to substantiate Wal Basses true value as great instruments.
+1
