1. That is a thing of beauty. GLWS.
2. Our singer uses one. Looks odd. But no 'odder' than my lefty bass. No one cares once the party gets going. After my bum notes last night, I could probably do with getting a stand too....... ;-)
3. Thread resurrection. I finally took the plunge and bought the Stingray last week. Loving it so far. :-)
4. I've bought a few Hipshot products via BD over the last year. Mostly straightforward with only one 'hiccup'. I would use them again but I think they can probably improve their order tracking and communication with customers.
5. Interesting. I too play in a rock covers band and use a pair of Two10s with a TC BH500. I am looking to downsize the amp and this wee Ampeg is on my list along with the TH350 and the Tech21 VT Bass (which I had originally bought but was dead on arrival). To be honest, the two cabs are overkill much of the time but they do look the business and are still fairly easy to transport.
6.
Did you have the scratchplate made?
Yes - Jacks Instrument Services in Manchester. Really good fit and nice quality. Not cheap but I couldn’t find an off the shelf plate that worked. Plus I reckoned a quality scratch plate would make the whole guitar look just that bit more pukka.
7. Here is my project Squier P Bass that I bought for £120. I've added a Hipshot tuners and a Hipshot extender, a hipshot Kickass bridge and a custom black scratchplate. The bass plays really nicely and I plan to rewire it and maybe change the pickups at a later date.
8. I took the plunge and put one on my Squier P bass. It has slightly improved sustain and the tone of the E string but the biggest improvement for me is that it is more comfortable for my picking hand when playing with a pick. Plus, I like that I can fine tune the string spacing. Definitely worth £60 on a budget bass in my book.
9. I've been considering one of these for my project Squier P bass. I love Hipshot products - quality, well engineered. Nice to see a Kickass on an actual bass - it does look quite 'big' on that Aria. Is the body smaller than a Fender?
10. I have one of these (a left handed one). It has a through neck and a fingerboard which is synthetic (Phenolic). I had a close look at mine and all the frets are the same - I suspect that your example has been molested, maybe because of the fret buzz? My bass suffered some damage whilst in storage for many years but is quite playable now after a very mild tweek on the truss rod. I use heavier strings on it (I think 105s). I note you are in Scotland - I am too - I would be happy to meet up and compare if you need to? PM me.
11.
I just took delivery of a butterscotch Stingray 'Old Smoothie'. I'm well aware of the quality, playability and awesome sound that Stingrays give - I have four others - but this baby is astounding. It plays like I've owned it for years, the sound is eye-wateringly good and the build quality is all you'd expect from a MM. The preamp doesn't have the aggression available on a 3EQ but for all straight ahead bass sounds it's stunning. I just had to tell some people because the wife has now glazed over.
This is not helping my Stingray GAS....... Looks lovely. :-)
12. It's not quite that simple - I'm left handed so finding a USA Sub is nigh on impossible.
13. All good advice guys. I like the suggestion to buy both! Can't afford to do that but I could buy a Sterling Sub4 and the Sandberg for the same money as the Stingray.......
14. This might sound strange but I'm not so fussed about the tone. More about how they feel to me. Quality, feel, playability, reliability is what I'm interested in. I should have remembered about Thomann's return policy - I sent back a Tech 21 amp recently! Hmmmm.....
15. I have some serious GAS for a Stingray. Always wanted one. Don't know why other than some of my favourite bassists used them and I love the look. My local guitar guitar has my dream stingray in stock just now (a rare thing being a lefty) - black with a rosewood board. However, a friend of mine showed my his Sandberg a few weeks ago and it looked and felt really nice (albeit a righty). Thomann have a lovely cream coloured Sandberg TM4 with rosewood board and it's a good £300 cheaper than the advertised price of the Stingray. I can't try it out though. What should I do?
16.
Welcome!! Where in Scotland are you and are you in a band?
West Lothian. Been rehearsing with a band for about 6 months but it's no getting anywhere due to personnel changes (mainly drummers!)
17. I'm another of these right handed lefties! My dad had a left handed Les Paul copy and I just picked that up. By the time I realised it was a mistake it was too late! My first bass was a lefty Washburn B10a which was traded after a year for a Lefty Washburn Status 1000 which I still have.
18. Hi folks I just checked in here - I've been playing bass since 1987 but had 25 years off so still a bit of a newbie. Just returned to bass last November. Gear wise I have a Washburn Status and a Sire V7 which I play through a Zoom B3, TC BH500 and Barefaced Two10. Most importantly, I'm a lefty so always on the lookout for interesting lefty guitars. Cheers Kev
