  1. Using the binding posts you have to connect your cable to the two red posts and ignore the black ones. In Bridge, one amp channel is fed a signal 180 degrees from the other. Thus when one output goes positive the other goes negative the same amount. In essence one amp drives the cabinets positive pole whilst the other feeds it's negative. Thus twice the voltage is developed across the cabinet. How are you connecting the amp to the Pod?
  2. So you do bridge. It's not that powerful an amp but it is still more than capable of damage. Do you know that some amps require a specially wired speaker cable for Bridge mode? In your case the Speakon connected to Amp1 output has to be wired +1 and +2 at the amp end and +1 and -1 at the cabinet end. This cable is not reversible and it's two ends should be clearly marked Amp and Speaker.
  3. Don't blow your speaker cabinet!!! Don't get tempted to get 'every last watt' out of the power amp by bridging it. Run it in parallel mono with a cab on each channel. if you only have one cabinet, run it on one channel and turn down the other. Use SpeakOn cables and not 1/4" Phone plugs. The 1/4" plugs can't safely handle the power delivered by the amp.
  4. You can get ground lift adaptors to take care of that problem. They are easy to make too.
  5. Quoting @Sapatown I got it checked by a really good amp tech that knows his stuff, and he found some loose transistors and a cable that needed to get fixed. I could be missing something but the Matamps I can remember were all tube/valve and had none of those pesky transistors.
  6. I was around the same age and also knew no better but still felt like I had 'arrived' 'cos I had a VOX. LOL
  7. Are you in training perchance?
  8. My second worst amplifier was the VOX AC50 with it's 18" Foundation cabinet. VOX didn't even put handles on the cabinet so I had to add a pair in order to move it about. The amp had no treble at all as it was EQ'd out by circuitry in the pre-amp. Another ugh! I redid the whole amp to make it better for my use. If anyone has an AC50 with two channels, an engraved fibre control panel and chrome knobs that was my old unit. It was last seen in Liverpool.
  9. 250W into a single 12 is looking for trouble especially with a bass!
  10. Well I do miss my old friends and there are a lot of messages I can't get to. A few of the TB people I do find here including your good self!
  11. I always am surprised by the prices in my old country. It's just about worth it to fly to the US and bring one back. I guess we have Boris the Spider to thank for that!
  12. WHAT?? TRUMP THINK? Wow whoda thunk! LOL Warning about the guy got me canned from Talkbass so I'll shut up now!
  13. The cable you are using to connect the amp and cab is a SPEAKER cable and not a coax instrument cable yes?
  14. And I love mine!!
  15. That's a good example of Sod"s law!
  16. But at least it's not made in Russia!!
  17. I wonder how they would compare to my Sixties unit? I have to admit that I find the chrome chassis a bit garish.
  18. I hope it serves you well.
  19. In my mind the biggie is to let the speaker cabinets warm up to room temperature before you try to use them. I left my two 2x10 Acme cabinets overnight at sub zero temperatures in my van. The next evening I set them up and without thinking dropped a Low B into them. This cracked a surround on one driver in each cabinet. let me tell you THAT was a long, long night. I have stored a lot of my stuff in my unheated garage for many years with out a problem. They are off the floor on dollies and mostly enclosed by covers.
  20. Problem with threads like this is that everybody will suggest their own favourite cabinet. I agree that the vertical 4x10 is great. Mine are Acme model B2. They do everything I ask of them and they handle a Low B with no effort.
  21. One cab per channel @ 8Ω gives you 720W with the input switched to parallel. This is how I operate my system. Running your power amp in bridge releases a vast amount of power which will, in the end, toast your speaker cabinets. Another related point is that a 1x15 will not handle the power that a 4x10 is able to. In use. if you must use this match up, stack the 4x10 in the bottom position so you can more easily hear the cries of pain from the 15. Thinking that a 15 will produce more lows is wrong. The close coupled four tens will be more capable of doing that and will have greater sensitivity. Just as a question: is the Cavern still active, pandemic aside? I played there in the sixties. LOL
  22. If it is a failed solder joint this will not solve the problem.
  23. Try the old trick of linking the Send and Return of the Effects loop with a signal cable. Do the same if the amp has a Pre-amp Out and a Power Amp In.
