  1. Maybe I have too much gear. 😳 By the way, does anybody know where this picture comes from ?
  2. In my idealistic youth I thought that everyone working together in a band should be equals. But over the years and many, many bands I realised that some people were always going to have the dominant personalities, like it or not. That's human beings for you. A bandleader can enjoy having the final say, but this also means the buck stops with them if their decisions result in failure. This includes choosing new band members. There's no one else to blame.
  3. So where does Grunt fit into this ? Asking for a friend.....
  4. Is that a Wallace amp, @BCH ?
  5. What a loss. Here's a tribute from Josh Walsh.

  6. Going back to the 80's, Prefab Sprout produced several albums of really beautifully written and well crafted songs. But mention this band to most people and all they remember is "hot dog, jumping for, Alburquerque" I would guess they must still get pretty annoyed when people only remember that one silly song. And - PS - Martin McAloon was an excellent bass player.
  7. This is the best place to start understanding Cardiacs, @Dad3353. 10 minutes of analysis and history, and carefully edited. RIP Tim Smith.
  8. I've just followed this thread through from the top, for the first time. You have an excellent and eclectic taste in music, @Dad3353, much respects to you. The Magma material is new to me, reminds me of the Japanese band Koenji Hyakkei in places. Slightly surprised there's no Cardiacs material in there so far. maybe that's a joy to come. 🙂👍
  9. There's so many versions of this song by so many different artists. Which one are you learning ? Love your user name by the way ! 🙂 👍
  10. Played the Foodies Festival at Winchester at the weekend with Bodacious. Very short turnaround time on stage as it was starting to run a little behind schedule, and Sister Sledge was the top billing. So, my trusty JV PJ directly into the supplied backline, which was the big Blackstar bass combo. I used this at a Foodies do last year and it really does have some grunt to it - I was rather impressed. Here's a pic taken at the end of the show.
  11. I think that's a famous manga character called Bocchi. She plays a Les Paul in a manga band............ ......does a solo over 'Freebird'......... (this alone has half a million views on YT) .....and there are numerous 'how to play like Bocchi' tutorials on YT also. Yes, really. 😳
  12. Hang on, what's with this spelling ??? 🙁
  13. Yes, love that sound, my idea of perfection. I think a P bass responds well to thumbing plus palm muting which Joe Ayoub is doing in places here. I can get pretty close to this sound using this technique with my 90's Jap P with slightly worn in rounds. But this is at home with the P just going through a Focusrite straight into headphones - no effects, it just sounds absolutely perfect - however, have I ever been able to recreate this perfect clean crunch sound live on stage? - not a chance ! 😥
  14. What a bizarre story. Sounds like this was treading on that fine line between pure artistic endeavour and something worthy of Private Eye's Pseuds Corner. Other opinions are available. 🙂
  15. I swear Sam Wilkes head is going to come off one day. I worry for the guy. Louis Cole arranged all the parts for this as well. Just a shame it looks like it was filmed on or by a potato.
  16. Yes, I've noticed exactly this phenomena more frequently lately. I used to think it was worse when I was gigging in a room with dreadful acoustics or I was on a hollow stage, but I'm reluctantly concluding that maybe it's just aural fatigue due to age............ my hearing's still good but I'm not really confident I could be trusted on a fretless now.......... 😳👎
  17. Best of luck to them, so much natural talent and sense of rhythm. 👍

  18. I respectfully suggest you watch the video before passing comment. And it's not a Beato video. He's just briefly interviewed in part of this.
  19. In this video from ColdFusion, the inexorable and rapid rise of AI generated music is carefully explained, including history, ethics and copyright. Grab a coffee and get up to speed with what's going on. You might be amazed and possibly a bit frightened. I know I was. 😳
  20. A 1962 Strat bought for £130 from a music shop in Kingston (Kingston in London, not Jamaica) Mind you, this was in 1973, and that was about the going rate at the time................. 😲
