  1. Absolutely the best live guitar sound I've ever heard was a Les Paul through a Marshall 2x12, 18 watt Bluesbreaker-type combo. Apparently they were made for the old catalogue market many years ago (this would have been 40 years ago anyway). Just a volume and tone control. Just a gorgeous rich sound with loads of depth and beautiful sustain.
  2. You'd hate me. My 'redundant' fingers have worn substantial grooves in my basses just above the scratchplate.
  3. Looks like a good deal to me. The changes are minimal overall, and stripping to natural was pretty common back then. My 72 has been stripped and so was my 66, before being refinished back to sunburst. If the changes included pickups, tuners, scratchplate or the like, I'd think differently.
  4. Don't blame you in the slightest.
  5. Paid the princely sum of £260 for my 66 Precision at Tiger Music. Headless basses were all the rage at the time. It had been in the shop for ages.
  6. After how long? I played a pub in Worthing where, after figuring we needed to watch our volume, we were asked to turn down after the first number. When they made the same request after the second number, we were asked to stop playing and got the full fee.
  7. Oh yes. Way better than any glimpse at a Health and Efficiency. Proper smut for the aspiring and skint adolescent musician.
  8. This lady was pretty impressed. In a bar in Amsterdam. It was a mirror until you got closer and this image appeared.
  9. Another shout for the Bass Centre in Wapping. I bought a number of Entwistle basses from there, and my 66 slab bass. Locally I recall the original Telecomms in Portsmouth, a small shop that moved location a couple of times. It eventually became a branch of PMT, lost its soul and finally closed.
  10. Yes. I never get that. Why wear a hat indoors or under cover? This is multiplied a million times by blokes who wear hats on stage. You think it's cool and I think you look like a complete kn0b.
  11. Leo didn't put blocks on any bass during his ownership. The rest is hypothetical. Supposing he'd designed the Ricky and called that a Precision?
  12. Yes. Yes. Yes. The worst sacrilege there is. I would buy a Classic Vibe 70s mocha if it had a proper neck on it. Even now I'd buy a body to put the right neck on it.
  13. You may have to take issue with Mr Fender about that one! 🙂
  14. And Earl's laugh!!⁹
  15. You have misunderstood our posts. It is good that you have responded to the suggestions positively - albeit reluctantly and sarcastically. They are normal requirements when trying to sell something of this vintage or value. You now have a chance of selling your wonderful looking bass. Good luck.
  16. Accounts show 36 sites with 736 studios generating 13m turnover with cost of sales 9m. Administration costs are 14m so a loss of 10m.
  17. Pino used Rotosound Swing Bass strings to record with Paul Young. His Stingray is, apparently, on its 3rd fingerboard as a result.
  18. I'm bound to have recounted this before. In the early 90's Spinal Tap were promoting their album Break Like The Wind. As part of the promotion, they came into the studio where I was recording at the time. From the moment of their arrival to their departure, 3 hours later, they remained in character and were simply hilarious.
  19. That is a thing of beauty and a good weight. My own '71 has far less mojo than your bass.
  20. That's going to be a lovely bass. Brilliant instrument and these are incredible value for money. Along with the likes of Tokai and Greco, they are every bit as good as a Fender Japan instrument. GLWTS.
  21. Everyone here is trying to help you sell your bass. No-one is questioning your knowledge. We are trying to help you attract serious buyers. The other bass you refer to has remained unsold for 20 months. Anyway, I think we've done our best to help you. I hope you raise the funds you need for your house. GLWTS (sincerely).
  22. He seems (from his edit) to be irritated by the criticism (that is intended to help him). Given the lack of the anti-scam evidence, and his reluctance to provide simple information, it may be that he does't actually even own this bass. Just saying.
