This is one of mine - a second Yamaha MSG deluxe in cherry burst. I've commissioned a set of PAF's from Aaron Armstrong that do jazz archtop and tele tones for one of them.
Alan Murphy-tastic!

This was an NGD a couple of weeks back, I've now rewired it so that the tone only works on the bridge pickup (my preferred configuration for single toned axes) and it sounds great, the pickups are amazing for a budget guitar; where were these great quality, cheap guitars when I was a lad?

  2. We'll pin striping was way, way harder than I thought it might be and I'm not totally happy with the final result, but after some touching up it might pass muster from a few feet. Anyway here it is as it is currently

No bass in this one either but who's the best drummer?
Always Animal, if for no other reason that he never sacked his entire band in a fit of pique.

I also live in Brum and you are very welcome to pop over and have a go on my MTD KZ6 (see avatar pic), which has wider spacing - 18 or 19mm

You gotta love BassChat, what a great bunch of helpful folks there are here; group e-hug :D

  5.
I picked up an Ibanez SR506 just to try out a 6 string for the first time and It just clicked, it was effortless to play.
If an instrument feels and sounds 'just right' it's probably safe no to overthink it (trying to demo everything else out there) and go with your gut. You can always upgrade the electronics if needs be, although the Barts and the circuit on the SR506 aren't too shabby at all.

    But..as a token exercise...good fun.
And rather the point of it all really IMO. They're all good, really good, and I'd be happy to play next to any of them (and try to keep up). The real winner here is Guru whose drums seem amazing, check out their video of Dave McKeague and Aaron Graham demoing the kits; they sound lovely.

The first one (on the right of the screen) is obviously the most 'technical', and I like his pingy snare sound, but he overplays a bit and sometimes trips up. The second one (in the middle) is the most solid - a bit Bonham-like in places, which is always a good thing, and he lets a bit of space into his playing - although by about halfway through I noticed that he was using the same fills and tricks as he did earlier on, so maybe a bit limited? The third one, also good - they are all good, of course - but too much cymbals for me. So overall I think I would hand it to number 2.

Very much my thinking. The chap on the right reminds me of David Garibaldi with his hi-hat work. The chap on the left very solid but, as you say, too fond of the cymbals. The guy in middle I sort of missed on the first listening but 2nd time listening he is so solid, his groove @6:35 is wonderful and anyone brave enough (and good enough) to swing the Higher Ground groove gets my vote.

Those Dimension basses look rather nice, kind of a new take on the Roscoe Beck sig but with an active circuit. Definitely one to try for me if the string spacing at the bridge is 16mm(ish).

  8. So I've done mine too.

    Before

    After

Some of the sharper points are a little ragged up close so I think I'll pinstripe the edge in black for a smoother look and to seal it (it'll also match my SR1605 quite nicely too).

Yup. Este from Haim is pretty much the undisputed queen of the bass face!

She's mesmerizing to watch. I like that she knows she does it, but doesn't give a damn. Atta girl!! :)
Yeah, she's great; I like her playing and tone too.

  10. That's a cracking finish, I'd like to do that to my stripped Ibby GWB35 as the basswood revealed under the black paint is a bit IKEA Billy shelving unit (sounds and plays great so isn't going anywhere). Any chance you could direct me to the eBay seller you sourced that vinyl from?

That was how I reacted when I tried it. Sorry to derail your thread, but here it is.
Derail? Pah! It's all good, it's also your NTD too :) Nice grain on that puppy.
