Love 'em, they look so cool (as does the Firebird) and just scream 'rawk'. Enjoy.

Jealous appreciation

My recent acquisition. A simply amazing bass.

I've just spent an hour or so playing some along to a variety of pop, prog, jazz, reggae and rock tunes. Is there any genre the MB-2 doesn't do well and just fit right in with? An amazing instrument. Rob Allen certainly is a gifted luthier.

Maybe I will give it a go a bit longer...
I must admit it does feel like I have learnt something even something as small as learning the notes past the 5th fret.
Which of course gives you a different tonal approach to the same scale, giving your playing character. -
As the extremely happy owner of a Rob Allen bass I can attest that his build quality and attention to tonal detail is the very, very best.
Good luck with the sale. -

Scales are essential for fish, therefore bass.
I know, it's not even remotely amusing. It is Monday.
I disagree, it made me smile. -

What about this? ;0)

You may not solo and only play root notes, but occasionally you may want to add a fill or move to the next root note melodically. This is when it helps to know your scales. I know of a bass player who had a pet lick that he would use as a fill over many songs, the problem was is was a specific major fill which, when it was used over a minor progression, sounded plain wrong. Knowing scales can also help you work songs out. Struggling to hear that next chord in a new song? Your knowledge of scales will help you figure it out. If you just learn major, minor and dominant 7th scales it will help you no end and help you be more connected to what you're playing.

Plays and sits so nicely that it becomes an extension of 'me'

Time for a thread resurrection.
Up until recently the bass I'd have to hang onto/save from a burning building was my Ibanez GWB35 as it's the one I enjoyed playing the most. However, since a new piece of low end loveliness landed at Ez Towers I'm starting think that that view has changed. Now it might be just 'new bass infatuation' but currently this would be my ONE bass if push came to shove and in reality I don't see that view changing.

How am I only just discovering this thread? Looking awesome Steve, great design and that blue is just stunning. Looking forward to the updates and the finished article.

So that's an mb2 in the clip? They're 34" right? It looks tiny. Gosh a mouse must look even dinkier.
Now, a mouse or a deep 5 hmmmm
The 4 string is 34". My 5 stringer is 35" and is still shorter than my Ibanezes which are not known for their massive proportions. -
Another of our number passes

I think it is a modern classic.

Very nice. Do you mind if I ask how much they charged to do dot replacement?
If memory serves it cost £110 all in including a set of La Bella flatwounds, but that was a fair few years ago. -
I had The Gallery defret my US SUB some time back and they did a cracking job, I even had them replace the front dot markers with rosewood ones to make them almost invisible and present a cleaner look

A little update. I used it tonight at a rehearsal with a band doing Pink Floyd covers, probably not the bass you'd normally associate with that kind off music, but I wanted to try it out and the band members wanted to see it. All I can say is, bloody hell! It was amazing, it fitted right in, I was most surprised and I'm being encouraged to use it by the others for this project.
I'm also trying to learn the tune in the video above (Nardis, written by Miles Davis) and although my technique isn't as polished as Mr Kastner's the sound is spot on. This truly is a chameleon of a bass. The nylon wrapped strings are very kind on your fingers too.
So a week on and I'm an even happier camper than I was last week -
Nice, it looks really organic the way the curves and grain meet.
-
Two at the moment but hoping to extend to three. Very different bands which keeps me on my toes.
-
The callous on your index finger has merely become harder than the one on your middle finger (mine are like this). I can only suggest playing more with your middle finger to get that one suitably hard core.
