  1. I think it looks really good and look forward to a review if you've a mind to do one.

There's something very Yamaha about that
[/quote]Yeah I'm seeing that too, the upper horn has an RBX look about it.

  2. With my eyes closed I couldn't tell between the MIM and US at all, the Japanese one was pretty much the same too (possibly identical, but they were not side by side); the only one that stood out as being a noticeably different was the '77. I found the '77 to have a bit more bark and a bit more top end, perhaps this difference was down to the maple neck, but it could've also been the resistance rating of the controls. Tone-wise the MIM is an absolute bargain and if the playability is also really good why would one buy the US model?

Ignore the watts, use your ears.
Read up on cabs on here then go try them oh until you find what you like.

The LMll is clean all the way up to wide open if you have the input gain set correctly (500w @ 4ohms IIRC) so if you are hear any distortion then that'll most likely be your cabs, but 500w is super loud IMO and I never had mine beyond 1/2 way with a loud band.

  4. Mrs Ez is a bit of a dab hand with the sewing machine and has made a couple of covers for me, we just bought some vinyl from a haberdashery shop, et voilà. However, I did once make my own - I took a very heavy duty rubbish bag, cut it to size and then, with it on the amp head, covered the bag in black duct tape. It became a perfect fit and very robust, I even photocopied the manufacturers logo and stuck it on the front; it looked great.

  5. I had an LMll and, if I remember correctly, the load recommendation was minimum 4ohms, therefore, your 2x8 ohm cabs would be fine. As to which combination, well that's a matter for your own ears really. Size doesn't always mean a specific tone. I used an Ashdown 2x10 and then a Schroeder 2x12 with the LMll and the 2x12 was far more focused and to my liking. Schroeder cabs are/were quite a popular pairing with that amp, but again it depends on what you like to hear.

EDIT: FWIW I'm using a rig with 8x5 speakers and the tone is not a million miles away from the 2x12, a litter smoother and precise perhaps.

  6. Here's my board.

I play in an 80s covers band so the chorus and octaver see a fair bit use. I used to have a compressor but stopped using it. I've had this configuration for years now.

  7. I find it a bit Who By Numbers (as a pun and literally) almost as if all the elements of their previous work was fed into a program and this was spat out. The lyrics are a bit trite for my tastes too with the 'pop' references, a bit like Pete is trying to be down with the kids.

  8. He Don't Play Nothing is very straight forward for a Robben Ford song (pretty much Dire Straits' Money For Nothing really, with none of the RF's altered chords to play through) why not just play what you think fits for you? However, I f it's a new band and one of the players is a huge RF fan then maybe the band is not for you as there are bound to be many songs from the RF canon being suggested, not many of which you'll find bass tabs for.
