1. A better shot now that it's been waxed and reassembled

  2. Now with one coat of Danish Oil applied, which I think, with a coat of wax, will do the trick (apologies for dodgy phone pics).

  3. I bought a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele sometime back and, as much it is a fine guitar, the pine body was just a bit too heavy and uncomfortable on my rib cage (strange, as slab bodied basses don't bother me. So I decided to change the body with an off the shelf, rear routed, swamp ash body from Guitar Build http://www.guitarbuild.co.uk I'm very pleased with the result and the quality of the body (very little drilling required and a bit of shielding), here is the typical before and after shots

I'll oil and wax the body to lose the rather insipid (at least compared to the tinted neck) look, but it's a lot lighter with nice contours in all the right places and sound-wise it sounds a lot...er...airier, for want of a better term; certainly an improvement on the, not too shabby in the first place, tone.

In fairness, it is the London BASS GUITAR Show.

I'd like to see Yamaha amongst the exhibitors: finding their basses to try is quite hard in my experience. I can't believe that they can't afford the show fees.
DB is a bass, no? I can't remember if JHS were there last year, but they have been previously and it wouldn't have killed them to bring a DB along with all of the electrics, they do distribute them after all. Bass Guitar Magazine itself has a specific DB instruction section and often features articles and interviews with DB players. The more, the merrier I say and I certainly agree about Yamaha.

  5. Someone comes up with something and then it's agreed to or poo-pooed. Then, if approved, tried in a rehearsal for the 'does it work?' test. Unfortunately our keyboard player often has a lot of down time during his job and comes up with loads in one lump (often based on specific synth tones), most of which are, if you can wade through all the youtube clips, not quite right. Unfortunately, it's in his nature to be a bit down when we don't do even one of them.

Cannot believe there are two of these available at the moment. Top of my fretless wish list...
I know, boutique basses for sale seem to be like buses - they all come along together. There's at least a couple of Foderas for sale at the moment and a while ago there was a rash of Rob Allens.

Sorry to slightly derail the thread, absolutely cracking bass, were it not for having recently bought one of the aforementioned Rob Allens I might be all over this. GLWTS.

Having a drummer who counts you in way too fast when you're playing live also makes playing along to the original a good bit easier!
I used to play this with a drummer who would count it in at the required BPM and proceed to accelerate to about 20-30 BPM more. One night I just had to stop it was going sooo fast and I just couldn't play any faster.

The focus seems to have shifted from a show about bass gear to becoming a show about bass players with the emphasis on clinics etc. I'd much prefer to see the show focusing on attracting as many manufacturers as possible.
I like the performances and clinics but my focus is also looking at kit and the last 2 years have been disappointing in this respect; more kit!

One performer I would like to see is Adam Ben Ezra. Something for the acoustic low end followers amongst us. That would make a change from the norm.
I have been very disappointed by the lack of DB stuff at the shows, the only DB being the one on the Strings & Things stand which is there to sell DB strings.

A B Ez is just amazing, I wish I shared his talent as well as the name.

  9. I didn't see it originally but a friend of mine reported much as above. Just watched them, the moment at 12:22 is just horrible and I couldn't watch beyond the guitar solo. About as bad as any poor pub band that I have ever seen. Fortunately I know that this is an aberration having seen Norman a couple of times before when he was just stunning.

The bass player from 'A Perfect Circle' got that one nailed in Judith I think at 1:50 https://www.youtube....h?v=xTgKRCXybSM
I wish I had the hair available to be able to do that, a thinning number 1 only allows for scratching or sweat to be mopped up (sorry TMI).

  11. Your guitarist is a tosser, tell him his like are ten a penny, throw a brick down a street and you'll hit at least three guitarists who are pretty good (and and a bunch of others who are not). Perform the same experiment for bass players of your calibre and that brick won't find even one (remember you'll be throwing the brick).

Good work work there and excellent use of the interlude, I never know what to do during that bit.

Remember it's not only them auditioning you, you are also auditioning them
The only things required from you are to: know the songs; be yourself (outgoing/diffident, whatever is normal); be on time and don't faff about setting up. If you don't get it (assuming you want it after the audition) don't get down on yourself, it's just one of those things.

I'd say you are looking at this the wrong way.

If you changed to a different 2x15 you'd have a different sound. You might find it better or worse, massive or maybe not as massive as your current cab.

Technically there is no reason at all for a 2x12 not to be able to do what you want but all of them are going to sound different to your current cab. That would be true of a new speaker of any size/combination.

So, stop thinking about it and start trying out new speakers. Reject then ones you don't like the sound of and come up with a shortlist then compare them with each other and your original cab, then the answer will be clear.
I replaced my old two 2x10 rig for a 2x12 for both tonal and size considerations (a massive improvement on both counts). Then I replaced the 2x12 with a 6x5 cab which suits my overall needs better; I have no problem filling venues with low end.
