This one always does it for me

However, when soloed it does not sound good to my ears; context is everything.

The tone and groove on this one is always a pleasure

Or the same again with Pino @ 6:15

More Pino

And finally (trust me I could go on further) the wonderful Tony Levin: tasteful phrasing; tone to die for and just sooo cool!
When you went through the learning stage and things sort of like this happened, did you carry on or stop for the day?
When I went through the learning stage? Hell, it still happens, even now! For the record you never really stop learning. Some days I'm just not feeling it and that's very frustrating, but I walk away and pick it up again later or the next day which normally sorts it out. We all have bad days at various tasks, why should playing the bass be any different? However, I know how frustrating it can be and learning to deal with that is the real issue. -
Soloed, I'd have to go for the J with flats as my preferred tone there. However, live would probably be a different answer. You can certainly hear why the 'Ray5 is such a popular live bass in an ensemble, it really cuts through. Interesting too to hear a Ric and P in such close proximity, not really that dissimilar despite the reputation for the 'clank' (well to my ears anyway).
First class job there sir -
I didn't pick up the bass until much later in life, spending the many preceding years in the treble wilderness. Growing up, bass players that made me listen to them were John Entwhistle, Andy Fraser, Jack Bruce, Chris Squire, etc (it was the 70s). Then I heard Pino with Paul Young in the early 80s and my first picking up of the thick stringed happened (I got dragged back to guitar very soon after and didn't finally settle on bass until the turn of the millennium. Now 3 out of my 5 basses are fretless and I have a vintage P. Was I influenced by Mr Paladino? Probably.

My Sterling Ray34CAFL just came in Thursday. It plays great.
Nylon covered flats? Cool. How do they sound on the 'Ray? Lovely looker BTW. -

The shopping day has arrived! Updates to follow
So I had a half hour to mooch round the shop with an invitation to "try whatever you fancy".

Someone built some keys into TLev's tash?

There are those who despise a widdle fest, but then there are those who love one. If you're of the latter group then fill your boots.

I'm not sure the taste police will approve - CAR with gold hardware and light up red led fret markers. I'd have preferred something just a little more understated but then it's not as if there are hundreds of these to choose from....
Life's too short not to have that bass in my life.
Red strings too I see. -
That's what alerted me to it too. -
I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier, but there's a Skjold J currently for sale here on BC which might suit you http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246269-skjold-lions-pride-5-string-super-jazz-l1525/page__p__2591963__hl__skjold__fromsearch__1#entry2591963 maybe a deal can be done.
I did do an Adam Clayton search and nothing new was highlighted in the results. Oh well. -

The thread title could also easily be - Yet Another Fender Jazz Bass. -
Steal! You just can't wrong with a Tele.

Done, Alibaba got my vote, melancholic but got my heading bobbing at the same time.

I'd probably get another Phil Jones PB300 but replace the Cub with a Flightcase as that would allow me to just use the Flightcase alone on smaller gigs (the Cub doesn't have enough oomph to fill a room). However, I'd quite like to have an Aguilar rig with a Tonehammer and 2, 1x12s.

Massive 'unlike' a sad day for our community.

What are these 'frets' of which you speak..?
I have 5 basses, 3 of which are fretless and the frets on my 63 P are tiny and low. The frets on my Ibby seem like corrugated iron by comparison. -
WILCO, WILCO, WILCO, WILCO!
