You might try a Maruszczyk Jake if you can stretch the budget. There's one for sale here on BC at the moment
Or one of their ex-exhibition items direct from the manufacturer

PS. I saw your show in Islington, earlier in the year. 👍

As promised in my last post, here's a link to my Tom Petty tribute band's FB page, where we have just uploaded the results of our recent recording session. https://www.facebook.com/heartfakersband/?hc_ref=ARRcWgx8vn_Kwfj-SPRAeZ7M_TrGAx5qVpTM6faIZWYKgSkoyj5RmceQawTn36EwhVA&fref=nf

Well, I've just spent the last five days like this; off grid, under canvas, with 60 10&11 year olds and performing outward bound-type activities near Doncaster.
This was a very nice set of postings to come home to.
And I like the low horn as it is.
Ah, the joys of the year 6 residential, I feel your pain. I’m off on my annual ‘cat herding’ a fortnight Monday. 😬

Congrats, but you know the rules.

I liked that. It reminded me of what The Ox did with The Who.

I’m not a fan of anodised gold p/gs but that looks awesome.

Same weekend as the SE Bash. As I’ll be unable to do both, the bash wins.

Great news and smasher of a little ‘un. ❤️

I run my Flightcase and PB300 rig with a VTDI on all the time. I currently play in an 80s covers band (leaning more towards the rocky numbers rather than the synth tinged ones) and a Tom Petty tribute. Because of the transparency of the Phil Jones stuff, whatever you put in front of it is accurately reproduced. Previous to this I was using a Mark Bass head through a Schroeder 2x12 cab and the PJ rig is similar, albeit superior sounding (smoother, more articulate).

My ‘right now’ pedal would be my Tech21 VTDI. I used to just use it as a separate EQ for slap work with advantage of a DI should I have an amp failure, but now it’s on all the time and is the base of my tone. Could I gig without it, yeah, for sure, but it sounds so much better when it’s there.

Fascinating how different the guard makes the bass look. It completely changes the mojo
I had this dilemma when planning my 2nd Maruszczyk custom build. It just looked like too much uncovered ‘real estate’ without a p/g. Eventually I went for a clear one (best of both worlds due to the flamed top) and liked it so much that I had one made for other, non-p/g bass too.

A high gloss on that wooden one would look very nice.

It was that album that introduced me to Robben Ford. His first & The Blue Line album is still one of my top 10 albums, Roscoe Beck’s playing on it is sublime.

I think it looks great without, but with it added it’s still good, a very Adam Clayton sig vibe. If it were me and I went with the p/g, I’d go cream.

I didn’t realise there was a new book. I’ve now bought it on the strength of the last book. Looking forward to reading it now. Well done that man (I know how hard it is to do).

I have the Haussels. They sound good but pretty weak compared to the nordstrands on the ibanez.
Those Big Singles are very meaty for sure (I had an SR1605). If I was having another bass made, I think I’d go for them to have something different.

Stick a bezel in it. When I had mine it was the first thing I did. There's a variety of options to accommodate different playing styles.
+1 I went for the raised thumb rest one, although I now wish I’d gone for the recessed version. I’ve also removed the mute thumb screws (and the plate underneath, reattaching the earth strap elsewhere) as they occasionally dug in my hand.

I replaced the Bassculture MM pickup in my Elwood L fretless today with a Delano MC4 HE/M2. I have the 'single coil' HE/M2 versions in my fretted Elwood L and have been knocked out by the articulation of them, so I finally got around to fitting an MM one in the fretless (after 10 months since deciding to do so). The Delano is, to my ears, a much sweeter sounding pickup, the single coil and parallel setting in particular now have real character, so much so, that I may start using the parallel setting as my go to tone. A big shout out to Reinhard at Delano, who got the wiring info from Maruszczyk so I could just drop the new pickup straight in using the existing loom, I know he had to really spend some time on the phone getting the wiring info for the Bassculture.

Gibson quality has taken a dive in many areas, however, Epiphone quality has remained top notch and punches well above the price point. I think the Casady looks awesome in black.

I’ve always had good results with T-Cut on nitro. Enjoy your new acquisition; will chez Jack be rocking to some Journey tunes in the near future?

Out of interest, as I'm completely new to this site, what similar bands to Vulfpeck's style could anyone recommend? I'd love to hear them (and finally break this addictive loop
)
Snarky Puppy might float your boat.

I’d go and see my band. It’s music I enjoy, played by quality musicians (we’re assuming I wouldn’t be playing 😂).

I fully expect to be either hung, drawn and quartered or possibly banned from Basschat for life for saying this, but for me it was the Wal Custom bass: really heavy, very peculiar neck profile, mystifying control pots that I couldn't get to grips with at all. This was back in the days when there was a shop called Allbang & Strummit at the Seven Dials in Covent Garden in London where one could find a quite literal 'wall of Wals'.
(Runs away and hides)....
That’s where I tried my first Wal, which I liked (as per my post above). Different strokes for different folks.

My ‘baby’ is 36, I go as an ex-member of staff/governor volunteer, these days. Glutton for punishment, that’s me.
Sorry for the derail, Andy 😊
