My perennial suggestion is - Post Burrito Depression (my favourite from Tony Levin's list of unused band names http://papabear.com/miscpages/bandname.htm ).

Any instrument that offers an insight to chords and harmony is useful, guitar works well because the construction of the instrument is very similar, as is the tuning. As has been said, spending some time with percussion is also useful. Given that bass has foot in both camps and combine the two, are we musical polymaths?

I just heard via the Rock Against Trafficking FB page; gutted

Looks like a neat idea, nice and simple.
Is it just me, or this a worried-looking robot...?
That would've been a good contender in last month's photo comp. -
The Porcaro family have had much grief over the years.

£150?!! Sounds like a steal to me, congrats.

I'm just back from their gig at the Hammersmith, a really quality show, live video screen also used for some other images, monstrous lighting show and even a half decent bass sound (Chris was using a Ric, a little bottom heavy, but nicely audible). Ben was looking well following his cancer treatment and everyone moved around the stage nicely. Support was from a Tax The Heat, who were really good, and Reef, who really weren't. £35 well spent

He's selling some more at the moment - a de-fretted Roscoe Beck, a Tokai and a very nice upright...not a hint of the "recently used on" line...
That RB was for sale in The Gallery years ago, obviously it didn't sell back then. -
Looks like a very solid job to me, I've done my own before (not as good a yours) and had one done professionally, yours looks pukka. As it also sounds good, you should be proud.

These basses are outstanding! I picked one up a few weeks ago and I'm amazed by its quality and sound.
+1 I've been playing one for years, tonally and playability-wise they far outstrip their meagre price tag. -

Cor. I never knew that wasn't Tony Levin.
Me neither, but now I listen to it I can hear Babooshka. Peter Gabriel does have great taste in bass players: Tony Levin, Mr Giblin, Larry Klein, Danny Thompson... -
Throw a brick down a street and you'll hit 3

Oh and this happened.
Photo by Paul Sips (the guy with the hat). I'm on the far left.
Very cool. -

I'm pretty sure they really couldn't give a f*** what the haters think or say.
Maybe not, but I was thinking more of the vociferous interweb posters, the ones just on Planet Rock get very steamed up, 'not a rock band' kind of thing. Personally I like them, not all their stuff, but mostly. This song puts me in mind of when Kiss went disco, but way, way better. -

Hmm, strangely grooving my ass off to that! Could have have done with a screaming lead solo a la Play That Funky Music but quite liked it nevertheless!
Definitely solo required, I liked it despite the lack of it though. However, given Nickleback have an absolute army of haters, I feel they've given those folks more ammunition for their hatred. -

Hmmm you very well might do..... Cheers to the OP for the heads up. Will report back when it arrives!

Ah ha! Congrats on snagging a great bargain. -
And got themselves a great bargain. I wonder if we'll see a NBD thread in these very pages with the aforementioned beast?

Strewth!

Due to the fact that back in Australia the Young brothers owned cats that did gymnastics, AC/DC stands for All Cats Do Cartwheels (courtesy of Planet Rock).

They don't come much more 'rawk' than the Jem itself and they do clean nicely

The RGs are that good then? The guitars I like the "look of" so far are these :
They are very versatile, but they are ultimately (as the looks indicate) rock machines.
So a debate I'm having with myself

A light, slim necked fiver? Ibanez SR range all the way; something at pretty much every price point.
