1. Although I have fretted basses, I'm really only playing my Ibanez GWB35 these days and I'm loving it. The band I'm using it in is an 80s covers band so it's very appropriate. We do do songs which really lend themselves to fretted (The Pretenders for instance) but I just stick to the fretless and it sounds fine to me and the ret of the band seem happy with it too.

Yup - I have one and if will definitely find a high fret. Great little tool. Sounds like your analysis is correct and the fret might not be high across its whole width. There's a great video on YouTube somewhere showing how to level and recrown a fret with a standard file if you don't have all the gear!

    Edit.... Found it!

    Even worse, tempted by Jimi's 55-02 :-(
Yeah that's giving me Lakky GAS big time. The SBMM Ray34 I had had a bit of a raised fret which I fixed back down correctly and I had to raise the p/up on the G side a fair bit, but other than that it was fine and sounded great.

Are there any decent music books for WA with good bass transcriptions? I don't recall seeing one and though I've tried to work out a few bits of some of their songs it would be nice to have something more definitive.
I was in contact with a guy who was doing the transcriptions for a book some years back. It was all done and ready to go but then Andy Powell apparently had some issues and it never happened.

I've seen both versions of WA and whilst the AP version is very good, MT's tone is just so right. Not just my opinion either, 3 of my pals who used to be in a WA tribute have also said this.

It's not so much his technical ability, but his feel and timing is what really appeals to me as a musician.
Too Young To Die is certainly an example of this, not technically demanding, but such a nice feel.

BTW Do I detect a Stingray in the background there?

I take it you found this.

The tab is a bit wonky as it's across 6 strings...
Yeah but I'm too tight to lay out for the app :)

No worries chaps, after 2 days I've transcribed a version that I think is 'close enough' using a combination of PC, iPad and decent speakers. Now to write it out neatly!

  8. Many, many of us seem to really like John Giblin's playing on this, but does anyone have notation or tab for what he's doing. I'm trying to piece it together for a band I'm in but it's proving to be a major PITA, especially as youtube on my PC is way out of synch when watching some of the performances (TBH my PC is out of synch on a lot of stuff) and I don't have it on CD to slow down. Any help out there?
