Oh if you insist

Had it since April, my other basses hardly get a look in. The most versatile tone control I've ever heard on a passive bass (.1uf) from spanky to dub and all stops in between. Plays fantastic too.

This is my Roscoe Beck IV, SUB fretless and Vic Bailey Acoustic

    That's me all porned out.

  2.
+1 gazzillion.. I'll keep banging on about Etymotic Research ER9/15/25's Your ears deserve the best. Save the cash, buy some..save your ears!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep these are the dogs dangly bits. Best investment in an accessory ever. I wish they did a 12db attenuator though.

  3. The MB DI is factory set to post EQ. Here is a link to change it around http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...780#post4363780 . Remember if you do this you will invalidate the warranty.

  4.
Oh yeah... and stop being a bloody girl about it :)
Whoa! The guy's a beginner, give him a break. Doesn't anyone remember how sore your fingers could get when you were starting out, let alone with an injury.

Macatack, protecting the area as previously suggested is good advice. Also just keeping playing as much as you can will help too. But ultimately if you're still getting pain after 6 months you may want to seek advice from a medical professional and not us as we're not qualified.

  5. Check with your home contents provider. You may find that you have personal possesions (up to a specified figure per item) already covered away from the home. Any items over their limit can be added as a specific item for a small premium. I used to use the hugely overpriced Musicguard policy for years until I got wise. Same applies for a comprehensive car policy (for when transporting), but again check with your provider.

  6. Why is it that the show always seemed to be so badly mixed? You can rarely hear the bass and last night Snow Patrol's vocals on the 2nd number were completely drowned out by the guitar and drums and any harmonies were a waste of time. The sound might be good in the studio, but ultimately this is a TV program and they've had since Tuesday to get it right.

As ever an eclectic mix of acts that left me disappointed. Tom's voice was good, but I've seen him way better, too many muso's in that band for my liking. Sad that Stephen Stills' voice has gone to the dogs.

  7.
Be honest if it is genuine it is worth 'WAY' more than that. :)

Problem is likely to be that the bass doesn't turn up after you buy it! As has been stated it's advertised on the London Gumtree (accepted that it is on the www.) and located in Scotland. Chances are that if the seller is a bit hooky then he'd take your money and offer to post it.
Yeah for sure it should be worth way more, either that or I got taken to cleaners with my '63 (I don't think so).

Given that it's somewhat sus, it would be worth picking it up in person, cash on collection, but as the guy seems somewhat backwards in answering emails this is obviously a non starter. Scammers do seem to be quite dumb sometimes.

Hopefully no one will be daft enough to just send money to something so (as our US chums say) hinkey.

  8. I've been using a Samson Airline for 8 years and only had interference once from a cab company's transmitter. Have played with other members of the band using wireless (2 guitarists, singer, sax player) no problems at all and hardly any tonal difference from using George Ls cables. Live this difference is inaudible.

  9.
I have been watching the BBC’s history of the guitar and wondered when the bass was going to get a mention.

Last time I looked, my bass still qualified as a guitar so I assume that at some stage the bass is going to get a mention in one of these programmes or am I going to have to keep watching hours of fretboard w@nkery?
Ah I doubt the bass will get a mention. But just like when we play and have to take a back seat, we know full well that without us it sounds like cr@p. The guitar may have changed music, but the bass changed the world (apparently) http://www.alibris.co.uk/booksearch.detail...e-_-isbnUK-_-na

    http://www.crimsonguitars.com/CharlieJonesBass.html
Yes it was. If memory serves I think Charlie Jones was dating Robert Plant's daughter at the time of the Page/Plant thing. He also plays(ed) with Goldfrapp.

  11. Yeah I've had this a while. To be fair at first I wasn't impressed with the trio mix as Pino was somewhat lost with his sig bass, but then when he used the 'burst at the end it sounded much better to my ears, so I'm guessing that's a tone issue so is a personal choice, but surprising nonetheless. I think when he plays with his thumb and mutes he gets the most convincing upright tone I've heard from a solid body. David Labruyere's playing is great too on the full band stuff and a much better sound/mix. Interesting that he was using a J but on the Continuum DVD he used a P. I like the in between bits, but that tiny dog is just not rock and roll!

  12.
Less mmwwaaaaa and more baaaaaaaaaaaa :-)
Well I guess somebody was going to say it! Still amusing even though it is pejorative.

I once had the pleasure of playing Pino's old MM fretless some months ago, unfortunately I was a bit overawed and it was more mweeeuchhh than mwah. I do like his work on Mayer's Continuum, especially Belief, but I miss the old Paul Young fretless days. I saw Pino with Paul on the No Parlez tour back in the '80s, awesome.

  13.
Hey mate, check out Lee/Leland Sklar's sound- his main recording and live bass for years was a Fender-like hybrid with twin P pickups. You can hear it famously on James Taylor's 'Your Smiling Face' where it features in a bass and drums breakdown- it sounds amazing! You should be able to find an audio clip or vid of that track on a certain website beginning with Y... :)

    Hope this helps!
Just listened to this on youtube http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HwJtKava4Wo , you're right just a great tone. I feel a double P project on the horizon! Thanks again and to all the other posters.

Awesome reply Etienne I'll certainly check that out.

  15.
heres my P/MM:

its great sounding, but not with the pickups together. it just sounds weak and weedy!

But they are not out of phase with each other?
That was my immediate reaction, replies on Talkbass to this question have revealed very happy people with P/MM.

I'm definitely liking the idea of getting another P bass and fitting an additional P pickup, probably with individual stacked vol/tone pots.

  16.
I have a 1984 BC Rich Eagle that has the P/P configuration and it sounds fantastic! Admittedly, the pick ups are nice old vintage DiMarzios but nevertheless, I think there's a lot to be said for that configuration. You can blend the levels of the pick ups any which way you like.. Very simple to use and very versatile.
I suspected that this might be the case given that the pickups are the same type (so one doesn't overpower the other as in a P/J) but trying to find a passive P/P to demo is as rare as rocking horse droppings. Another big thumbs up for this config too is that Bernard Edwards used one (we are not worthy, etc) but that's another topic.

  17. Anyone out there running these configurations? I've posed this question as part of a sort of pick up thread in Basses, but this seems a more appropriate area to ask the question. As much as I love the single P tone I sometimes what to add something a bit more bridgelike in sound (if you get my drift). I've tried P/Js but find that it's really all or nothing with that config, no real gradual blend of the J to speak of, almost as if a 3 way selector is being used as opposed to a blend knob or 2 vols. What's the story on double Ps and P/MM, can you just blend just a little of the bridge with these more powerful p/ups? These configs also seem to be fairly rare statistically speaking and I can't find any soundclips.

  18.
Oh more love. :) .Peg is one amongst many, i erm....i havent learned to play.....i like my hip hop, and De la Soul were very clever to sample that great erm....synth brass??
A long shot, but can anyone tell me what bass Chuck is playing on this record.?...Great punchy tone he has.. Didnt he play Spector basses or Ken Smith??

I have heard Walter and Donald were sticklers for everything being perfect, ie tightness..and it shows, i couldnt get a Rizla between there rythm section.
Ah Peg, great track and one I use for practice a lot, fingerstyle, double stops and slapping, a real workout. Chuck is THE MAN on those early Dan recordings Aja and The Royal Scam really do it for me.

In answer to your question Chuck used a P bass for his early recordings. He famously slapped on Peg despite being told not to by Becker & Fagen, to disguise what he was doing he turned his back and sat behind a music stand or something. There is something on youtube which covers this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6x6uoNqH-_A&...feature=related , Chuck relates his addition to the track at about 1:15 onwards, enjoy.
