1. Schroeder 1212L. Available in either 8 or 4 ohm so you can have a single cab up to 800W solution (I do this) or go for 2 8ohms cabs if you fancy some mix n match size wise. These cabs don't sound great in your bedroom or lounge, but they kick major @ss live.

  2.
Male necks......?

WhereTF are the female ones? I want me one of those!

    :P
Doh!!!! Poor typing skills now corrected. Mind you different sexed necks sounds like a good thread subject ;)

  3. I tend to play a lot of walking lines and fingerfunk lines that I would use in a band situation and a little slap. Whilst slapping is a bona fide technique unless that is all you do in you're playing situation, you're not trying the bass correctly. This is often my complaint at music shows where all the demonstrators just slap the hell out of their instruments, when in a real life situation (unless in a Level 42 or similar tribute band) they probably wouldn't use this technique exclusively or maybe at all.

Actual songs with recognisable lines that I tend to play are, Peg, Rhythym Stick, Runaway, Too Young To Die, Pump It Up and for a little slap Higher Ground.

  4. I swapped my ABM 300 head for an LMII as I wanted something with more head room, smaller and lighter. IMO the LMII lives in the same kind of tone space as the Ashdowns, maybe a bit warmer though and definitely easier to use. Cab wise I was using 2 ABM 2x10s, but eventually changed to a Schroeder 1212 as I wanted a one cab 4ohm solution. Couldn't be happier with this combination as it gives me the best on stage and FOH sound I've had from any rig. I also use passive basses (P and super J types).

  5.
Never have trouble hearing myself and quite often the guitarist moans im too loud. Cant get much better than that ;-).
That makes a change eh? Make him suffer, that's what I say. Hee Hee Hee!

  6. I demoed both the 1210 and 1212 side by side. Both were really good, but tI went for the 1212 as it hade a warmer more rounded sound, pretty much as you'd expect. Best on stage and FOH sound I've ever had, a real live enviornment cab.

  7. I demoed the Boss next to the EBS Unichorus and the EBS was much nicer to my ears. It has flanger, chorus or pitch modulation, plus there's a wet/dry trimpot on the inside for fine tuning your sound. There might be one for sale here on BC I think.

  8. For an all round sound I run the bass at about 2 O'clock, VLE on a little and VPF at 10 O'clock, everything else flat. I know that my Schroeder cab has an low mid hump in its voicing, so the VPF is just flattening that out a bit.

  9.
I live quite a distance from brighton (croydon area) , is there enough at GAK that it would be worth my taking a day trip
Ah ha, your original post refers no doubt to the misnomer that is Rockbottom and Martin Phelps (they do have a rather nice Squier Vintage Vibe J Bass at the moment). Yes we are poorly served in the Croydon area, but as previous posters have said Andertons and GAK aren't so far away, in fact you could be in Brighton as quick as being in Denmark Street by train. Don't forget The Bass Gallery in Camden.

  10.
Nothing on their website (search terms 'sound level', 'limiter' and '70dB')

It's a tabloid story, isn't it. Next thing we know, scientists will have discovered that looking at silicone tits for 10 minutes is the equivalent of an hour in the gym.
No it's real check my link in my post above.

  11. Here's the link to the No 10 petition site http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/NoNoiseControl/

There are ways around sound limiters, namely to run an extension to a power source not governed by the limiter. The ironic thing about limiters is that it is normally drum kits that set them off.

    Signed

  12.
I just got a second hand (but mint condition) EBS MultiComp and that does the job perfectly!
+2. Has internal trimpots to adjust compression of low and high range separately in multicomp mode. Someone here has one for sale

  13. We do this and it's either just pedalled 8th notes or (as you say) root, five, octave on the F#, G#, A, B, A G# F# section. There's a clip on Youtube if memory serves with them doing it on TOTP.

    Intro & Chorus E, A, F#
    Verse form 1 B, E, A
    Mid section 1 F#, G#, A, B, A G# F#
    Verse form 2 A, B, E
    Mid section 2 F#, G#, A, B, A G# F#
    Chorus
