is that a 15 in there?
did you have the ashdown 210's?
That's a 2x12. Yes I had 2 ABM 2x10s. I retro fitted them with Ashdown Superfly neos, but the Schro is still lighter and has a better "in the mix" and on stage sound. Not as pretty sounding soloed indoors as the ABMs, but that's not what it's for eh. -
Makes me kind of fancy getting a Stingray fretless.
I've played that fretless, it's got a big Wales rugby sticker on the back.
Here's another Palladino, Katche, Miller video -
I would recommend the ABM cabs for sound over the MAG, but if you are going to stack your combo onto the ext cab you might want to check dimensions to make sure it's fully supported as the ABM cabs can be quite a bit smaller.

Best British Bassist (singular). No such thing.
My Favourite British Bassist. Pino. -
Nothing is wrong with you, you're 16. I'm not nervous at all before a gig now, but I've been playing live for more than 36 years and I used to cr@p myself when I was younger. You get used to it, which isn't necessarily a good thing as nerves can keep you on your game. Providing it isn't debilitating channel those nerves into your performance.

Here's a link to Fender's set up guide for their basses, but it's generic enough.
As has been said before set up is a combination of saddle height, neck relief and nut slot height. IMO that's the order to tackle set up too. -
Come on guys we're more clued up than this surely. These things are meant for guitarists, hell they'll buy anything if the words breakthrough, sonic and Nirvana are used in the advertising (I'm assuming that at least one of these words appears in the spiel). At the end of the day Joe Punter certainly can't tell the difference.
Cheers EBS F.
I didn't think one would get much support around here and it's not my favourite option - I did that ten years ago, sold all my bass stuff and invested in other musical stuff. Result = overdraft and a lot of frustration lol. And more of an overdraft when I started back on bass two years ago.
Don't go back down that route as you know it only leads to suffering (it's the Bass Karma gods I tell you).
Find a new band is my advice. Try the online muso finders, Formingbands, etc. -
Cocktail sticks are certainly better than matches. For a good, quick repair which doesn't require redrilling, place a couple of the cocktail sticks with some quick setting epoxy and screw the button back on while still wet, solid as a rock.
No Col, just giving Neil some info, trust me
Hmm, methinks you have GAS, I know I do for this beastie but don't have the dosh at the mo. -
I recently changed from an Ashdown ABM head with 2 2x10 cabs to the rig below and couldn't be happier.
Balance and position is probably more important that you think, as is strap comfort.
+1 Yep my P bass is way lighter than my RBIV, but the RB balances better due to the lightweight tuners and so actually feels lighter on the strap. -
The Avatars get a lot of love on the US forum. Have you considered Schroeder?
-
I read it, but really couldn't too excited about it really. It was all very expensive exotica (so they should all be good anyway) without a bog standard 5 (Fender MIA J5 for instance) as a control/point of reference, so it was just going to be minutiae preference of the reviewers (true for any shoot out I guess). The GB won, well it was the most expensive by quite a bit.
-
I have some good chops, but I always feel that others in my peer group are better than me. It's probably more healthy that way as hopefully I'll want to get better.
"Man you really can make that bass talk! It's saying PUT ME DOWN!" -
As my band is currently using a school hall I take my LMII and Schroeder 1212L, which is my gig rig too (nice and compacy, not to mention light). If we use rehearsal rooms with PA I don't take any amp and just DI into the PA using my MXR M80.
I use Ikea bags..
50p each and waterproof.
Genius!
I need to get/construct a cover for my cab and was wondering what to use and where to get it. We already have a number of these bags and I know how strong they are, I'd just never thought of using them for covers. Nice one. -
Varifocals.
I'll get me coat.
I was gonna say bi-focals.
Can you get my coat while you're at it? -
It appears that you can say arse.
I have that dummies book and I think it's really good, something for all bass players regardless of level. I really must start on the reading music section (he said for the umpteenth time). -
I have Waters Of Eden by TL, anything else I should add to that? fretless bass rather then Chapman Stick stuff.
R.
Tony Levin Band Live Double Espresso, fretless a go go. Great instrumental version of Black Dog. Resonator is a good album too with TL singing no less, not huge amounts of fretless though.
Here's a pic of TL with that Sabre (with graphite neck BTW) playing Sledgehammer. Yes he does use a pick on it.

Not too bad, but we decided to record last night's gig so a good performace without mistakes was required. Unfortunately there were some horrendous cock ups. Drummer starting 2 beats late on Stevie Wonder's I Wish, stopped, started again, same outcome, stopped & gave that one up! I start Rhythm Stick to set tempo, drummer comes in and speeds right up (eek) and then the singer decides to come in a bar late in two separate places which means I have to move the groove around at a breakneck pace, messy. Guitarist didn't have the best night either, probably down to using a Tele that I've never seen him use and having recordingitis. It's not always everyone else though as I decided to play a "jazz" version of Parklife in the chorus, oops! But all in all not a bad night, the paying punters had a good time having braved the crap weather to get there.
Yeah, i understand the science. The room too comes into it. I was just wondering if a new set up might help. I suppose it wouldn't hurt (if done properly), lol
This happens with a lot of basses in the same way as dead spots. You might try a Fat Finger or similar to even it out a bit. -
Any excuse to slack off of work
I found this quote from TL when talking about one of his solo cd's.
used to favor an old Music Man Sabre fretless I have (did "Sledgehammer" on it)
Nothing to do with effects but proves he did use a fretless Sabre.
Good call on the chorus Ez.
R.
Ta it was nothing, I'm a huge Gabriel/Levin fan/anorak. Yep I've seen TL using that Sabre for Sledgehammer live. Interestingly he uses a 'Ray5 fretless with the Tony Levin Band so I'm guessing that the Sabre has the 'Hammer tone. -
Octivider and Chorus, a great combination also used by Pino Palladino and Guy Pratt amongst others.
I really don't think anyone's beliefs should make a difference, it isn't important to me at all. Respect is due to anyone who stands up for what they believe in, whether I agree or not.
Abso-bloody-lutely. Scientologists can be annoying, but then so are evangalists of any religion. Billy seems a nice enough guy and certainly has chops up the wazzoo. If Scientology floats his boat and helps him play better, then fair play to him.
I saw him back in the day with Mr Big, brilliant player, but I didn't like his tone. Not once during the gig was religion mentioned by anyone. Funny that
