1. Another wee update on what has become a Road Worn Custom. As much as I like what I've done to it electronically I've always thought there was something a bit off visually. Thanks to a couple of other BCers posting pictures of their sunburst and maple Ps I worked out what it was, the pick guard. My p/up config does seem to shout RAWK (although I use it for everything) and surely there is nothing more RAWK than black. So a quick call to Allparts and Robert is your Mother's Brother.................

Good attitude. I bet Norman was really nice and accomodating too as I understand he is a really nice bloke on top of being an awesome player. He doesn't photograph well, but man can he play. A great bass moment and memory for you Z.

+1 The Bass Gallery have always done good deals for me, you just have to ask.

  4. OK I'm just back from a long day at LIMS and thought I'd add my 0.02p. It was definitely smaller than last year and there was no Fender or Gibson, which is just plain wrong. However, I found the smallness made look a little harder and the layout often had me finding something I hadn't seen before. Headline had a nice range of Lakland Skylines with a particularly nice natural Daryl Jones which was snapped up quickly by some lucky punter. Yamaha had far more of their top line exotica with a £3k TRB 6 string, Nathan East and Billy Sheehan signature models too. To be fair I actually preferred the cheaper Billy basses for feel, but it was nice that the real deal was available for a change. There was, as ever, far more for guitarists, but as I play that at home for fun it was another diversion and actually found myself playing a very nice nylon strung electro with cutaway which was a bit random and revelation too. Proel not having the full range of Mark Bass pedals was a huge disappointment, but hey ho. Got a good deal on a mic and stand and some strings very cheaply at close of play. The bands were good, but awfully mixed, some of these so called soundmen couldn't mix a batter pudding! Will I go back next year? Yeah probably, but I may give the NEC a miss this year (I say that now!).

  5. Wishing I hadn't read this as I'm going today, sounds like it might be disappointing. No Fender or Gibson? What's up with these guys? They both had crap stands at the NEC last year too. Exhibiting is part of the business of selling their wares recession or no. Oh well as WalMan says it's a day out with my friends.

Once you've had custom moulded you never go back, it's a whole different product. For the price of a decent pedal you can protect your hearing in supreme comfort. Some of the best money I've ever spent without doubt.

Hard to say as he keeps a pretty low profile. I think he might be more into his writing these days. Bass Guitar Magazine should definitely interview him.

  8.
I was wondering if its worth putting casters direct onto the bottom of the cab.
Did that, it was OK, I think the board was better. Problem is that unless you use removeable casters on a cab they stick out and can rattle. If you stand the cab on the casters there is a school of thought that questions the efficiency of the cab when not using the correct feet, I found it OK but YMMV. Of course you are also potentially lowering any resale value if you mod the cab.

  9. I use a lightweight trolley for my 1212L Schroeder, but when I was using heavier Ashdown cabs I used a board with casters. On reflection I think the board was easier to use than my current trolley as the trolley sometimes gets terminal wobble and tips over. Another nice thing about the "skateboard" was that you could pile things on top of the cab; head, pedal board, etc. If you decide to go the board route, don't skrimp on the casters as you'll only end up replacing them with better ones.

  10. My white SUB is also currently fitted with a tort p/g. I immediately replaced the faux metal thing with a plain black one. Neither p/g gave any problems when fitting.

    Here's some pics of both

You'll notice that the tort version no longer has frets or dots.

  11. Possibly some kind of RSI, ice pack for 5-10 mins twice a day and some anti imflammatory of some description (providing you can tolerate these) for a few days, together with no playing. Then ice packs after playing whether sore or not, or just bathe them in cold water (after a gig for instance). At the end of the day if the symptoms persist go and see your GP.

  12.
I really wanted to know what the modelling on the Freebass wireless actually models! Amps? Basses? Other wirelesses?
Yep I thought I'd misread the article and missed something, so I reread it, nothing concrete except that you can adjust it.

  13.
Hey guys!

    I was all set on a new Schroe...2x12. I almost had a deposit on one. But..I thought id test a similar 2x12 setup...so I tested a friends Aggie 2x12,
Not a similar set up. I A/Bed Schroes and Aggies before buying my 1212L, to my ears the Aggies were very boxy and weak by comparison (in the shop anyway). If you're interested in the Schro 1212, try one, best cab purchase I've ever made. Of course having said that you should also try Alex's cabs too.

  14. Thanks for the compliments guys, it is really nice to play too. I can't understand why we don't see more P/Ps from manufacturers as they seem to do just about every other combo. At least BC Rich keep the P/P flame alive and I think Warwick still do it on the Buzzard, but that's it.

  15.
I shelled out the £165 for a pair of ER15's a few weeks ago after having a slight, but very worrying ring in my ears for over a week (that has now thankfully disappeared). I have owned a pair of standard musician's earplugs for ages, but never wore them due to their being really uncomfortable (I think the openings to my ear canals are pretty small) and not being able to make out all of what was said between playing due to the quite severe sound level reduction and, moreover, the muffling effect.

Anyway, they arrived this morning and though of course I've not rehearsed with them yet, I did try them out briefly. When I first put them in I wasn't sure I had done it properly because everything sounded just the same as it had done before putting them in. It was only when I took them out and noticed the considerable volume increase that I realised they really do sound that transparent - a hundred times better than the £15 plugs ('Hearos' I think). They're comfortable, as you'd expect, and the only negative effect of having them in is the slight rumbling they can cause if you're talking or, say moving your jaw for whatever reason.

I've only been rehearsing at volume for just under three years, and I wish I had gotten them sooner! It is a bit of an expense for some, but it's absolutely worth every penny, and I think we should all play a role in encouraging their use so that people can benefit before having the damaging effects of loudness proved to them.
Yep there are awesome and aren't your ears worth £165? Glad the ringing has gone, I just wish mine would, but that ain't gonna happen unfortunately. Yeah the sound of your own voice in your ears is a bit annoying to begin with, but it makes for great monitoring if you sing at all. :)
