I went to collect my bass from having new tuners fitted today, and left the shop with one of these as well!
Ah the addictive qualities of a classic Tele, and at that price hard to resist; enjoy.

  2. I had one of those foto-flame Strats in cherryburst, a damn fine guitar, weighed a bit but sounded great and played brilliantly - another sale that shouldn't have happened (I'll never learn) :(

    Looks nice!

I think that the Squiers are pine.
Indeed it is; matches my wardrobe and various other items of household furniture (not sure that's such a good thing), sounds better though :)

  4. I've been rediscovering some of my old country licks, particularly the solo from Shania Twain's 'When' which was played by Brent Mason I think. The only down side to all this is that I'm having to get used to having that slab poke me in the ribs all over again.

  5. Well this be my fifth Telecaster type and, as I don't play git-fiddle that much these days, maybe I'll actually hang on to this one. It's a Squier Classic Vibe 50s fitted with Alnico V pickups. I'm a huge P90 fan and was going to go for a Fender Modern Player Tele Thinline with P90s, but there's no denying the classic looks of the Squier and the pickups do sound like P90s tonally, just a little less output. The Thinline was super light and this one weighs in like a Les Paul, but on the strap it disappears; after all as a MM owning bass player I know what real weight is all about :) ! Anyway, without further ado.....

  6. I haven't renewed my subscription; I had every issue from the get go, but it had started to get a repetitious with its cycle of interviewed bass celebs and a few other features were the same too. I now check it online and buy a digital copy if there'e anything/anybody that I really want to read about.

  7. First up :o you'll be missed G but you gotta do what you feel you gotta do. If you feel like playing is diverting you from your faith then fair play to you. Hopefully you'll return to the low end fold having re-prioritised it's standing in your life, meanwhile Bon chance! However I think it's mostly THIS ........

Maybe God is just like the rest of you & hates it when I play a bit of slap bass & he's had enough.

  8. Just back from tonight's gig where we had a really appreciative crowd, many of whom actually said thank you! We even got another, unrealated booking out of it; result. I had a hard time hearing myself at times and had a complete mental blank on the bass line to Walking on the Moon - c'mon man it's not difficult! Fortunately we all thought was funny and laughed it off until I found the riff (by trial and numerous errors). Just goes to show what can trip you up.

  9. I have some issues with nitro necks as my hands react with it making it very sticky. However, this only seems to be the case with 'new' nitro necks where it still effectively 'drying'; on my '63 P this isn't an issue as it has well and truly cured. The two fixes I have tried with newer nitro is to i) use a polymerised car finish like Auto Glym to seal the nitro (this has to be an on going, repeated treatment) or ii) strip it off, resell with Danish Oil and then knock it back with oooo grade steel wool. As your SG is a '74 I'd go down the Auto Glym route as knocking it back with an abrasive will seriously damage its potential resale value.
