First up you'll be missed G but you gotta do what you feel you gotta do. If you feel like playing is diverting you from your faith then fair play to you. Hopefully you'll return to the low end fold having re-prioritised it's standing in your life, meanwhile Bon chance! However I think it's mostly THIS ........

Maybe God is just like the rest of you & hates it when I play a bit of slap bass & he's had enough.

A very nice site, kudos to your buddy.

Hurrah! Someone's in for a treat; I've just been playing mine coincidently.

2nd hand Ibanez GWB35 if you can find one (there's often one for sale here on BC); I absolutely adore mine, a total mwah machine with a good low B.

Just back from tonight's gig where we had a really appreciative crowd, many of whom actually said thank you! We even got another, unrealated booking out of it; result. I had a hard time hearing myself at times and had a complete mental blank on the bass line to Walking on the Moon - c'mon man it's not difficult! Fortunately we all thought was funny and laughed it off until I found the riff (by trial and numerous errors). Just goes to show what can trip you up.

Both of my Ibanezes are really light even though one of them has a mahogany body; really well balanced too.

Have you considered the Flightcase? There's one here for sale on BC http://basschat.co.uk/topic/236370-phil-jones-flightcase/page__p__2447977__hl__flightcase__fromsearch__1#entry2447977

Ah the joys of auto correct

Best 'guitar' amp I ever owned was a Fender '59 Bassman; marvellous tone. My current Phil Jones Cub does very nicely too, just add pedals for colour.

Some judicious stripping may well be in order then

I have some issues with nitro necks as my hands react with it making it very sticky. However, this only seems to be the case with 'new' nitro necks where it still effectively 'drying'; on my '63 P this isn't an issue as it has well and truly cured. The two fixes I have tried with newer nitro is to i) use a polymerised car finish like Auto Glym to seal the nitro (this has to be an on going, repeated treatment) or ii) strip it off, resell with Danish Oil and then knock it back with oooo grade steel wool. As your SG is a '74 I'd go down the Auto Glym route as knocking it back with an abrasive will seriously damage its potential resale value.

Welcome to the deep side and BC. Be prepared for some serious GAS though, I used to hanker after guitar related stuff back when I played but that's nothing compared to bass GAS; you have been warned.

I've voted and it was a close run thing between 3 entries, but Bilbo got the final nod from me.
There were 3 that didn't play for me, just silence, don't know why. -

that I don't need in the pipeline...
What have I told you about sensible talk? -

To be honest, the problem in our house is space. Between me and son no 1 we have around 6 basses, 10 electric guitars and 2 acoustics hidden about the place. Add to that my 2 keyboards, 4 amps, electronic drumkit and chapman stick. Mrs A is not happy at so much as the mention of another instrument!
Another musician in the house? Methinks I spy a scapegoat; get it and tell the Mrs he did it! -

Interesting how we justify these things to ourselves, isn't it..?
Oi! Don't go about laying bare our flimsy excuses for GAS; there lays the path to being sensible and that has no place here on BC -

I'm not too keen on 'advertising' it to anyone whilst I'm still thinking about it! I'm not saying that anyone else would want it, but it would be soooo annoying for someone else here to get it first!
Fair play, but let us know in due course eh?
For the record, I agree with hamfist; given the Squier is a cheapy, having both isn't terribly extravagant. -

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm a bit torn though as I've seen a bass that I would LOVE! 100% what I'd like in a bass, and it won't be available forever.
Details? -
Apparently he has said that he's doing more of the cover versions of standards because he doesn't want to put out an album of stuff he thinks is sub standard; it appears he's not very happy about his last album.

I've never broken a string or had a bass fail - yet. I never used to take a backup and I only take 2 basses now as there are several songs that I use fretless on; if either were to fail I've always got the other one to get through, but history makes it seem unlikely.

Here's a montage I made up some time back of me and various guitars and basses through the years.

I'm currently using a Cort M450 with P90s but I have a massive hankering for yet another Tele (none of my previous ones feature above strangely). -

Wishbone Ash themselves are little more than a pub band these days.
Martin Turner's version are pretty much a tribute of the 70s version of the band it has to be said. Some friends of mine had a WA trib and very good they were too, the bass player (a BCer) even depped for Bob Skeat. -
A Be-Bop Deluxe trib is a band I'd go to see or be a member of; what a great band they were.
Bgm! is pants or is just me?

I haven't renewed my subscription; I had every issue from the get go, but it had started to get a repetitious with its cycle of interviewed bass celebs and a few other features were the same too. I now check it online and buy a digital copy if there'e anything/anybody that I really want to read about.
