It was a raised wooden stage in a social club. May have been a contributing factor. Where I stood, there was no perceivable 'boominess'
Grammapad required maybe, although if your amp was way back it could also have been 'coupling' with the rear wall too.

  2. A greatly missed voice and talent with a great array of musos behind him.. The story I read about Sneaking Sally was that they were having a hard time finding the right sound, so they all went out for a break. George Porter either stayed or came back early and just started playing that riff, then everyone else returned and just jammed with him. Thus SSTTA was completed.

So I was in our Nations Capital today, and had some free time, my guitarist friend whom I was with, revealed on our travels he's never been to Denmark Street. So I took him there, we went in all the usual places, Wunjos, Regents Sounds, Hanks and my personal favourite No.Tom Vintage and Rare guitars.

While in No.Tom, I spy a 66 P Bass, I just HAD to have a play. So I ask and I'm given the bass and got plugged in to an Ampeg B2, from the second I had the P in my hands, I knew that I'll ALWAYS be a P man, the feel of the bass itself was sublime! It just felt great in the hands and wasn't too heavy. Then I played the first few notes and boy was it good! The tone knob did so much more than it does on my 2011 Mex P bass, the sound was awesome! It could go from woody and deep to bright and clanky! Perfection in my eyes!

I just wish I had the £6k to drop on it! But a huge +1 to all the shops down Denmark Street as always!
The tone control on my '63 is really powerful, probably down to the capacitors that used then. £6k! Wow maybe I should re-evaluate what I might get for my P.

  4. There is a reasonably sized number of non UK members here on BC and a good number of Cannuks, all are welcome. So 'Hi' from Ez Towers (we're big fans of Canada here having holidayed in BC, Alberta and Quebec). Dive into the various forums and prepare yourself for the massive potential for Gear Aquisition Syndrome :D

  5. Some people don't like to sell their stuff once they've bought it whereas others are not so attached and use the proceeds from sales to finance their subsequent purchases, this is what I do. I have a one in, one out policy; if I had kept all my previous guitars and basses there would be no where to sit down :D Do I regret some sales? Yes, mainly guitar ones, but the sale seemed like a good idea at the time; GAS is a cruel mistress. I will add that many of my purchases have been band driven i.e. I bought kit that I considered more appropriate to the band situation I was in.

    Hilarious. http://youtu.be/TJamLyRMS-A
Brilliant!

To be clear (just in case I did cause any offence) the auto correct to 'candida lout' was what made me laugh (talking about tone and suddenly a chav with a yeast infection pops up, will always raise a chortle from me) not your typing; a quick look at my post reveals a case of fat thumbs/unable to type (where was bloody autocorrect there?!). Great video though.

EDIT: Sorry to hijack thread, maybe a PM was more appropriate in this instance. As you were...

you candida lout the harshness if you want.
Hee Hee, the joys of auto correct :D; I suspect this should've read "dial out the harshness". Sorry, it made me laugh, pleae carry on the discussion re Spector vs Warwick. For the record I've never owned either so have no useful input (nothing new there then)

  8. I had a 35" Lakland, the only difference I noticed was how clear the B string was really clear. That extra inch over 22 frets didn't seem to add up to a hill of beans from a playability perspective although this may have been down to how close the bridge was to the endpin, which is why it felt 'normal'.
