To be honest, the problem in our house is space. Between me and son no 1 we have around 6 basses, 10 electric guitars and 2 acoustics hidden about the place. Add to that my 2 keyboards, 4 amps, electronic drumkit and chapman stick. Mrs A is not happy at so much as the mention of another instrument!
Another musician in the house? Methinks I spy a scapegoat; get it and tell the Mrs he did it! :D

I'm not too keen on 'advertising' it to anyone whilst I'm still thinking about it! I'm not saying that anyone else would want it, but it would be soooo annoying for someone else here to get it first!
Fair play, but let us know in due course eh?

For the record, I agree with hamfist; given the Squier is a cheapy, having both isn't terribly extravagant.

  3. Apparently he has said that he's doing more of the cover versions of standards because he doesn't want to put out an album of stuff he thinks is sub standard; it appears he's not very happy about his last album.

  4. I've never broken a string or had a bass fail - yet. I never used to take a backup and I only take 2 basses now as there are several songs that I use fretless on; if either were to fail I've always got the other one to get through, but history makes it seem unlikely.

  5. Here's a montage I made up some time back of me and various guitars and basses through the years.

I'm currently using a Cort M450 with P90s but I have a massive hankering for yet another Tele (none of my previous ones feature above strangely).

Wishbone Ash themselves are little more than a pub band these days.
Martin Turner's version are pretty much a tribute of the 70s version of the band it has to be said. Some friends of mine had a WA trib and very good they were too, the bass player (a BCer) even depped for Bob Skeat.

  7. Hi, my name's Chris and I'm a gear-aholic. ("Hello Chris," chant the other assembled members of the meeting.) I'm addicted to bass gear and guitar gear. Just when I kick the GAS habit from one instrument, the other raises its ugly head. Currently I'm in the the thrall of P90 equipped Telecasters (again); there is no hope for me :( the only stepped program I understand are the steps from my car to the door of a musical instrument emporium.

  8. Covers have been a source of material by many of those who are regarded as musical 'gods', all of whom could write a pretty good tune of their own; tribute acts just take that ethos one step further. I've written the odd thing over the years but I'm pretty sure the only person who wants to hear it is me (and maybe nearest and dearest) so I'm more than happy to cover well known tunes and, if appropriate, bring my own touches to it; this allows me to play live and bring some pleasure to other folks (they keep coming back so we must be doing something right). I don't understand the covers/tribute hate. However, I do understand the dislike of bands that just knock out a half arsed attempts of songs that should've stayed in the rehearsal room.

  9. Great vid, thanks for posting the link as I hadn't come across it before. Bobby Vega is a unique player with a great groove, not many people could replace Rocco Prestia, using pick style no less, but BV did, admirably. I've not heard of the guitar player in that clip (very tasteful though he seems) but I remember Prarie Prince from his time in The Tubes, what a difference in styles from then to that video; a very underrated drummer.

  10. I've visited the shop a couple of times and bought stuff, I rather like it and have found the staff to be of a good standard, although that was a while back. My impression of them is that are a an old style shop and the web presence/internet seller is kind of a second string to their bow. However, that doesn't excuse ignoring enquiries if they received them.

  11. Cull? Cull? Sssh! Or Brian May will be along and record a dreadful protest song :D

Seriously though, I like to have basses that get played and normally move on any surplus. I did buy, and still have, a P bass for 'collection' purposes but I feel I should even move that on; rather like a toy that is not played with, an unplayed bass is a sad thing. After all it's not really culling, more re-homing.
