  1. I didn’t stay much longer as it seemed hugely disorganised and somewhat annoying. I did wonder if it had been posted with tongue firmly in cheek.
  2. Guitar sales are at an all time high as I understand it, I can’t imagine bass would be wildly different. The time to sell is when you want to sell, unless you’re trying to move something that is affected by specific market forces: fashion, death of a bass celebrity, etc and you’re trying to hedge your bets.
  3. Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas
  4. My JMJ Mustang was delivered from GAK in an unopened box, all the way from San Bernardino, CA. They had plainly taken delivery into their warehouse and shipped straight from there. However, it was absolutely playable and even though the intonation was further away from accurate than I would normally expect, I could’ve gone out and gigged with it and it was only a few more £s than the SadEx (copywrite Ezbass, 2021). I suspect that most of our major retailers have or had furloughed their shop staff and are/were running basically a warehouse operation.
  5. Flight Of The Snow Goose - Camel
  6. Good choice. Mine does exactly what I wanted it to do, adding a bit of punch to my place in the mix, just like adding compression on a recording, with the added bonus is that it levels out my EBS octave and chorus pedals (the M87 is at the end of my pedalboard) which run hotter than I thought (the LEDs confirm that).
  7. I was going to say it was possibly a Bassett but it’s now clear that it’s a Lakeland.
  8. Why not? It’s completely reversible. It’d be interesting to see if the Flea is markedly different from the Betsy once the EMGs are in.
  9. Dancing in the Dark - Bruce Springsteen
  10. Black - Pearl Jam
  11. I have very few regrets about moving basses on, but I really should’ve kept my ‘Ray5. That’s a cracker.
  12. The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing - Joe Satriani
  13. The Wreckers - Rush
  14. I've sold 3 things via The Gallery, 2 basses and an amp.
  15. The old Lois Jeans advert introduced me to The Smiths’ How Soon Is Now, although it was an instrumental version. IIRC the was also a jeans company that used a Stiltskin tune for an ad, another one that was, at the time, new to me.
  16. Blue Monday - New Order
  17. Marathon - Rush
  18. Interesting, as that’s obviously not a typical pickup layout. IIRC the necks on these are quite chunky. All of which makes a new build/purchase a potential stab in the dark. If you wanted to go for just one bass, based on your current preference, a Billy Sheehan Attitude would be a good way forward. However, a brand new, current release, looks spitefully expensive, which means used may be the only option if you wanted to keep the BS vibe & feel (you may have a huge budget of course). Another way forward could be to keep the 714BS and also have a P/MM layout bass (as I think you mentioned) as a contrasting alternative, although the necks might be quite different.
  19. 14 then. 😆
  20. J’accuse! 👆
  21. Nice quiver you have there, those Vintage basses really punch above their price point and Yamaha just don’t make a bad instrument, IMO. Which of those is your ‘go to bass’ and what is the pickup configuration? Is there anything you don’t like about it that could be improved? It could be that you already have what you’re looking for/need. OK, just for balance, BUY BUY BUY! 😆
  22. To be fair, this is isn’t the OP’s conundrum as they don’t gig. Of course, I replied as knee jerk reaction, which was clumsy of me. This is how derailments occur I guess, to quote Vic & Bob, “You wouldn’t let it lie.”
  23. I’ve never needed another bass, amp or pedal as a back up because my gear has always been reliable (full disclosure, I often take a fretted and a fretless and one of my pedals has a DI, but I have gone ‘one bass, one amp, no DI’). However, I have an old friend who has broken strings, had amps fail, etc. It really is a case of, to quote Mr Eastwood, “Do ya feel lucky?”
  24. Unless you subscribe to the less is more school of thought, therefore, less is better. Combine the 2 and we have a nice infinite, self perpetuating loop. (Sorry, I’ve been in the DoI thread and become more obtuse than normal). Get on topic, Ez! Ahem... Downsizing to one is a noble quest and by ordering a bass that covers many bases (pun intended) you could achieve your goal. However, what you could end up with is a very bass that will do everything, but doesn’t do any one brilliantly. You say you gravitate to one bass, what sort of bass is that? Do you pick up the others at all, if so, which one/s and why? It could be that downsizing to 2 would salve your conscience and free up some cash (if required). Perhaps try putting the less used ones away in cases and out of easy reach for a couple months and see if you miss/needed them? Ultimately, this is Basschat and GAS rules. Therefore, don’t downsize, buy more! 😁* *please feel free to ignore paragraphs 1, 2 & 4
  25. Breakfast at Tiffany’s - Deep Blue Something
