The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
ezbass replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Unfortunately, the anticipated delivery date for the LPB, P/J, Player series, Mustangs at Guitar Guitar of the 23rd of this month, seems to be optimistic and is now just 'available to order', with no projected date . To be fair, I'm not surprised, disappointed yes, but not surprised. However, I see that they have a Gibson SG bass with a few quid knocked off for a scratch on the neck. I've just listened to good few demos on YT and those, plus the great tone Andy Fraser achieved with one (Jack Bruce and Felix Pappalardi too, of course), has me wondering if this tardiness from Fender isn't a sign to cast my net further afield. They appear to be quite light by all accounts, so all good there, although there is the neck dive issue of course. Hmm... -

I think we’d all like to see more pictures of that monster T’Bird.

I used to have a BT1 fitted to my ‘off the peg’ Jake.

^^^ This x 10,000, given that a great many of us don’t play for a living.

Best I can do, plainly more hours required.

The 10,000 hours thing is such a nonsense. People with natural ability will ‘master’ (whatever that means) a skill far more quickly, whilst those without that natural ability may never get there, wherever ‘there’’ is. From my own experience, it’s all plateaus coupled with surges in perceived competence.

Huge loss to the industry, but good call on Rob’s part.

My dad had an Imp and a Stiletto, so much fun to drive.

That’d be a good starting point. Then you can measure the results and use them on other basses.
-
Unless you go crazy with the truss rod of course. @Davee, don't go crazy with the truss rod adjustment, a quarter turn at a time, if required. If it won't move, don't force it, seek help.

That recommended setting has had me ruching off to measure mine and, wouldn't you know it, 2.5mm at the 12th. You'd think I'd know my set up, but I measure at the 17th fret for reasons that pass understanding, or are lost in the mists of time.

The configurator is a dangerous place 😬

Set it up how you like it, it’s your bass, not Fender’s. My only recent Fender purchase was set up higher than I normally prefer, as was the MusicMan and I don’t like my actions ultra low. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bass that was exactly ser up as I like it out of the box.

No, not that I could tell, when I’ve done it.

Danny T and John Martyn at their most affecting
ezbass replied to Clarky's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Danny’s tone is just amazing, certainly one of the reasons I’m hugely attracted to the DB. My first exposure to Danny was on David Sylvian’s Ink in the Well. I didn’t know who DT was (I’d only recently stared playing bass), but that sound! Sorry, I know this is a JM/DT thread, but I can’t not post this… -
Getting a Good Tone with my Sansamp BDDI
ezbass replied to Bassmaster General's topic in Bass Guitars
Yeah, that’s a side gap. The problem that you can encounter with a side gap in the neck pocket, is when the neck/headstock receives a lateral blow and then the alignment can be askew. There is a school of thought that says the tighter the gap, the better the tone, but I’m not sure anyone has increased the gap on a well fitted neck to test the results. BTW, well played with the hyperbole, I like it. -
So now Happy Jack has a Mike Lull 5-string neck...

I thought it was just me. The guitar demos are OK, but the bass ones make me want to rip my ears off and throw them at the screen! Sorry for the OT rant. As you were.
