  1. Helps to be a Yes fan.
  2. I have to admit that I was going to post the same as @hooky_lowdown. Top score, absolute bargain.
  3. I was ironing, whilst I was watching the Taylor Hawkins tribute last night (in my house, not Wembley, that’d be weird).
  4. Get it On - T Rex
  5. It’s a section of lyrics from Yours Is No Disgrace, IIRC.
  6. Thanks for that clarification. Therefore, without VAT, a blue or white shorty ‘Ray in the UK would be £560 (or thereabouts). Why the black one commands the extra £50 remains a mystery. Is black paint and a tort p/g that much more expensive?
  7. It looked very much like he was counting and I’m sure there was a hiccup in there somewhere.
  8. The knobs on the ‘Ray SS are a weird one. They’ve clearly just been put on any old how and not tightened correctly. I think this is partly down to using grub screw knobs are smaller, split shafted pots. It takes a little time to get on straight, tight and without the grub screw tightening on the split and Sterling are clearly just chucking the knobs on and knocking the basses out as quickly as possible. As to pricing, they do seem over priced here and have gone up recently, especially compared to the ‘Ray24, with it being a smaller bass with passive electronics compared to its bigger siblings. However, with regard to prices overseas, are the prices quoted in the US inclusive of their local taxes?
  9. Poor old Dave, he did seem a bit out of his depth with Geddy & Alex. Stewart Copeland made it look effortless, still one of my favourite drummers.
  10. With difficulty, it’s never perfect but you can get them back into the card sleeve if you’re quick.
  11. Classy.
  12. Oooffftt! 😍
  13. You’re not wrong, even standard sized knobs would’ve been ok, there’s plenty of real estate on the plate. A tooling cost too far for them, I guess.
  14. That would quite decade specific. Often the case.
  15. X-Factors and Steinberger cricket bats would normally be order of the day (or Wal if one has the cash) visually I guess (I played none of those in my ‘80s band, just generic Fender shaped objects and a Ric). But let’s be honest, other than the denizens of BC and its ilk, no one notices/cares, other than, “Ooh, look! That’s a pretty orange guitar,”
  16. He’s playing a hollow body Gretsch in a lot of the clips on YT, there was another being used but, as ever, the videos are a singer/guitarist fest.
  17. Doh ! I meant 2.25cm, so 22.5mm, as you say. I’m not normally a fan of jazz width necks and have avoided them for years, but this one feels absolutely fine, it must be the extra bulk you mention. Yes, it’s a smooth, satin finish. I changed the tuners on mine to Hipshot lightweights as the originals worked ok, but had some slop in them that was irritating. With the new tuners it feels so much lighter (it wasn’t heavy to start with) even though it only saved a handful of grams. Any short scale gig bag would work and it would fit easily into one of those Gator hard cases that folk use for Mustangs.
  18. The body on the ‘Ray SS is very contoured, as with a normal ‘Ray, but seems a bit thinner, front to back, couple with overall smaller dimensions. It is very comfy, although I’d like to see a bit more bulk around the forearm contour as I like my arm feeling more solid on the bass. This is where I prefer the Mustang’s slab body, as my arm rests nicely on top of that area. I don’t have callipers, but with a steel rule on a flat surface, it measures 2.25mm front to just back behind the 1st fret. I think both the control plate and bridge are ‘parts bin’. If you compare photos of the 34” & 30” the control plate on the SS looks much bigger, which leads me to that conclusion. It seems that it’s just the body, neck and pickguard that are downsized.
  19. That’d be hard, bass player’s Sophie’s choice.
  20. No, but a quick removal from the body should reveal if it is affixed in any way. If it is stuck on, I’d leave well alone, maybe spray it the required colour/shade.
  21. Whether you take the J pill or the P pill, you cannot escape the Patrix. MM pills are also available, either chocolate or peanut.
  22. Just mod one yourself. This guy originally fitted a Serek B90 in the mid position, but then moved that back towards the bridge and fitted a Guild BS1 BiSonic type (he has also refinished this bass now).
