1. It's remarkably unpopular for a Peavey. Even Kodiakblair hasn't posted in this thread. When it's a Peavey thread, that's saying something.
2. Are you an emo by any chance?
3.
Ooh BTW Andertons charged me £15 for the pleasure of sending it back!! B
If you are sending it back under the terms of the Consumer Contract Whatever law that has replaced the Distance Selling Regulations, then retailers are allowed to say that the consumer must pay the return postage. If the £15 was a postage fee, then it sounds extremely reasonable to me. Was it a postage cost, or was it some other sort of charge. Did you tell Andertons that you wanted to return the amp within seven working days of receiving it?
4. The B1Xon has a pedal, and the B1on has not. If you decide that you want to practice using a pedal, then you need the B1Xon. I wouldn't want to be without one. My current headphone practice things is a Zoom B2, and I miss not having a pedal even if I wouldn't do much with it. Just having the pedal as an easy volume adjust would be useful, as you can do that without taking your hands off the bass. The reviews of the B1(X)on's effects are mostly complimentary. There are youtube videos, but not as comprehensive as those available for the G1(X)on. BTW: It's cheaper on Thomann that GAK or my local shop, but I buy so little from my local shops I want to buy something occasionally I'm surprised there isn't more discussion of the B1Xon on here. There's a massive thread on Talkbass, but you have to ignore seeing how much less they pay for them on that side of the Atlantic. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/zoom-b1on-new-fx-unit.1049766/page-6
5.
Good call, AT!
I may have just backed this up this advice with action. I noted that a local music store was selling the G1Xon for £65. I emailed to ask them if the would sell the B1Xon for the same price, they will, and they're getting one for me. I will be using it for the same purpose as the OP of this thread. Does this prove that I'm prepared to put my wallet where my mouth is? Or that I'm freakishly lazy given that I've already gotten around to buying switches for my faulty (can't edit presets) Zoom B2, and buying the B1Xon avoids that issue? I did really want aux. input for practice though, so that's a step forward. I keep on ending up using my Roland Microcube (the guitar one not a bass one) as a headphone amp as it has an aux in. The modulation effects work OK on bass, but it can't get anywhere near the sounds I get out of my Zoom B2. I have sat in Birmingham station for an hour playing a Rickenfaker through my battery powered B2. I wondered if I would get noticed by any BC'ers. BTW: I Have a Vox AmPlug, albeit not the bass one. I find it useful, but pedals are IMHO much better for giving you tone options and as a headphone amp. It sits on my work desk so that I can occasionally plug it into the bass I keep here for a quick practice in an off-minute.
6. If the OP is going to play with headphones, then wouldn't a bass effects box do everything that the Vox Amplug or other headphone amp does? And have a lot more as well. I often use a Zoom B2 for headphone practice. Second hand it cost me £20 + p&p. But I wouldn't recommend a second hand B2 as they have problems with the microswitches becoming non-functional over time. Nowdays, wouldn't a Zoom B1xon be a good option for someone looking for headphone practice? And of course if the OP buys an amp later on, the B1xon would still be useful as an effects box. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/zoom-b1xon-bass-effects-pedal/104733?gclid=CJKnmYTFnMECFW3JtAodOmcAeg
7. Here's a four string Foundation bass then. Can you resist? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vintage-1991-1992-Peavey-Foundation-Bass-guitar-made-in-USA-super-ferrite-retro-/321545674322?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4add9d9e52
8. Over on the German music forum, someone just bought this bass from the Thomann 'flea market'. It's a long scale semi-hollow. This doesn't seem to be a properly released model. I wonder what it is. A prototype?
9.
based on a sample of n=?
About 4 or 5. Which is about 400 or 500% bigger a sample than many internet forum claims are based on.
10. At present our protools doesn't have a full set of plugins. But, I've established that EQ, chorusing (using a pitch-shifter as chorus isn't installed), and an octaver can produce an interesting sound from kazoo input.
11. I don't know what I need, but it needs to be as transportable as possible. I may end up moving it around in a trailer attached to a bicycle (no joke). I'd need to be able to compete with a drum kit, but most likely wouldn't be gigging. I would like to have something that leaves the possibility of small gigs open. My price constraints are 'how long is a piece of string'. I limit my spending on a per month basis, so if I want to spend more, I wait longer. At present I like the idea of a 1x12 or 2x10 combo, with about 200 watts. I'd like the ability to add an extra cab in the future, as I think that would cover anything I'm likely to do. Looking at prices, it seems it would be better to wait until something comes up in the amps for sale section. There are some bass amps there that look interesting, but in the wrong part of the country and I have no budget yet. (But I'm thinking about things - so seeing what goes for what is useful). I would prefer good note definition over and above absolute power, but would like a low B string to be handled well. As I have extended range basses a switchable high horn/tweeter would be good. Hence perhaps a well designed 2x10 combo might be a good idea. The bass amp I have access to for experiments is a Laney RB-7 2x10, but I don't own it. I only have a four string bass here at work, but think that a 5 string sounded fine through it when I tried that. That's a 300W amp, I think. I'm not sure what amp would sound best to me. I was interested in a Peavey someone was selling here that was able to model a variety of amps. I think that I'd prefer something moderately transparent, where I can add amp modelling in front of it. I'm thinking that a solid state amp is probably suitable. I can add a valve pre-amp stomp box if I really want to. Somewhere in the ballpark if bought second hand? http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Gallien_Krueger_MB_112-II_Bass_Combo_Amp/GK-MB112-II?CAWELAID=1834946507&CAGPSPN=pla&gclid=CNXQ4caimsECFUrpwgod2VMAjA
12.
Oh I'm keeping an eye on it but fives ain't really my thing either. Meanwhile there's a whole lot of Peavey goodness on the way to the blair's den
How long until you have an entire Peavey football team?
13.
When they're so cheap, many people buy them on impulse and after a while they come to their senses and realise they really don't need it, and possibly have other basses they prefer so... away they go. Not very surprising, really. What is surprising is that they're so good for the price they go for!
The even cheaper Harley Benton Jazzes seem to stay put with their owners a bit more. It must be the coloured finishes of the J&D basses that are triggering the more magpie-like instincts of basses.
14.
Always seems like musical dogging to me, you meet up with complete strangers, perform intimate (musical) acts and go away feeling rather ashamed of yourself.
Wear condoms on your plucking fingers and you'll be fine.
15. Some of the instruments look interesting, but with postage and import charges plus having to pay the higher price (I'd presume) for a single item, it would still cost enough to make it a significant risk. I like the look of this one though. However, I suspect the price may be entered erroneously. http://rebonguitar.e...ass-Guitar.html If anyone wants to organise a forum purchase of one of the more interesting ones, I'll throw in a tenner. EDIT: These were being sold on Amazon for about £220 or so if I remember correctly. This looks interesting. 16. I had a quick look, and up popped this local duo wishing to recruit a 'rest of the band'. It somehow puts a whole new meaning to the term 'the kiss of death'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s5DnwlzNbQ
17. I like the look of the resonator bass! One man's meat and so on....
18. Sorry, I was deep in work mode and didn't notice that I forgot the link. I hope this is not yet another classic instrument that has a hack defret job.
19. USA made with a Graphite neck the listing says. Interesting instrument.
20. I'm surprised that there isn't an amp/cab/combo buying guide among the pinned threads. Something like this: http://www.music-gea...ifier_guide.php Hmmm.... Online bass amp buying guides seem to be pitched a bit simply. And this one is very inconsistent compared to the previous one. You need 400 watts of power to rehearse with a drummer? http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Bass-Guitar-Amp-Buying-Guide-/10000000177635297/g.html
21.
Anyone who leaves a band that does well without them is entitled to feel a bit miffed, who wouldn't, but in this example, what got me was that the Hackett and Gabriel era was such a long time ago, we've forgotten exactly how much time has passed, so on a timeline, their period is tiny. The tracks mentioned are truly ancient. I saw the band twice live, that's all, and the first time without Hackett and Gabriel was 37 years ago! Does anyone in their forties remember the Beatles first drummer, or quo's bass player etc etc? Die hard fans do, but I'd bet many people who like genesis perhaps don't even remember them having a different line up to the current one. Far too long ago, and hacketts style was kind of 'of that age'
While the Gabriel era is short compared to the total lifespan of the band, I think it's more accurate to measure things in terms of original albums. As Genesis has been inactive for a fair proportion of the last 20 years or so. Measured in terms of original albums (not compilations etc.) then the Gabriel and Hackett eras are more significant. When you talk about the Beatles first drummer, then we have to remember that Mr Richard Starkey OBE was the Beatles drummer for all of their recorded albums (maybe not all of the White Album). Hence while Pete Best and earlier drummers are partially forgotten (less so for Best), this in no way compares to Gabriel and Hackett. Did they mention Calling All Stations? If they did, I blinked and I missed it. Was Ray Wilson mentioned?
22.
414 is the one I had in mind Beer. Just erring on the side of caution though so I didn't link it either. Pretty certain that certain manufacturer is aware of it but it must be kosher or it wouldn't be for sale.
It could be kosher but the certain manufacturer might still object. But, that's a discussion for another thread. In my opinion, I don't like the look of the certain Harley Benton bass. That doesn't mean that other people shouldn't like the look of it. The Italia Rimini 4 is, in my opinion, a much better looking semi-hollow bass inspired by a certain manufacturer. When are Thomann going to produce a tapping instrument modelled after the Chapman stick but sold for £200?
23. There are a number of youtube videos of the Ozark resonator bass. I presume that the Harley Benton would be similar. The videos tell us what the instrument sounds like, but of course doesn't give us an idea of absolute volume. https://www.youtube....h?v=kpJB6a96EQA It's certainly not a case of the often said "you can get a sound very similar to that of an upright bass." When I first saw the HB Resonator, I briefly considered reconsidering my longterm aim to buy a Tanglewood Traveller bass. While they are very different instruments, I'd want the TT for unplugged play, and that's the function I briefly considered the resonator for. But the Tanglewood sound is just so much better from what I've heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bnQnBOj3Ek BTW: I was disappointed by the sound of a Kala bass uke I tried, and I can't see that any of the cheaper versions of it such as the Harley Benton one would be better. The Tanglewood is larger, and sounds better as far as I've been able to ascertain from youtube videos.
24. It's got a chrome plated iron body. Surely you can't get more metal than that?
25. I haven't seen these before, I don't know if they're a new model. http://www.thomann.d...lr_resobass.htm Thomann are definitely coming up with some interesting instruments. There is also another Harley Benton bass that I've just seen that I am not allowed to discuss on the forum!
