FYI, I made this "mandotar"; it's configured like the top 4 strings (pairs) of a 12-string guitar. The bridge is a generic bass one with grooved saddles.

Yep - there's no problem mucking about with your own stuff. The disconnect is where folks adopt the "it owes me" stance and even look to add a charge for their own time and/or artistic input. A supplementary issue with this one is that it looks like the change has only been taken so far and then given up on.

I've posted a pic my Rickenberger from time-to-time and it made an appearance at the last SE Bass Bash. It was inspired by Darren Redick's, which he had at a previous Bash.

I keep thinking I should get a Ric... Just one or two more should do... (Actually, picture is old and the 5-er on the end went, but then an unexpected '88 jetglo snuck in somewhere in the middle.)

In the end, if people don't like Rics, then that's their choice! Me, I think they are the best basses ever made. Each to their own...

Whenever I see "defretted" I think "needs a refret". Looks like it sold for £122, which is still viable even after getting the refret done.

I don't buy the Harley angle at all - Harleys are big, heavy, bloated machines, whereas Rics are lean and mean. I think a more appropriate simile for Rics is a Lotus: a bit of a bumpy ride, the odd squeak and rattle, a bit of a reputation for having issues which need fixing, but a great piece of kit and by crikey they are fun! (I am a Ric and Lotus owner...)

TBH, I find FB alright I use it for these SIGs rather than the online equivalent of a holiday slides show to inflict on your friends; I've bought & sold things there, met up with people, and so-on, much like here.

Nice to see the comments are keeping instep.

It says no fakers, but does so in deference to the preexisting fakers group rather than for any political/moral/brand-loyalty basis. It actually says no Trademark infringements, which is a subtle difference! 🙂
