I've been tinkering around and have acquired a few pieces of MIDI kit; some have in+out DIN connectors and some don't, so I can't daisy-chain everything. I've got bass pedals (Ketron), synth units (Roland, Minitaur, Peavey) and a couple of budget keyboards (Yamaha, Casio), but I've never got them all connected at the same time. Is there a box I could run everything to? I have a MidiSport 4x4, but I don't want it to require a computer to operate (but would like to be able to connect one if I choose to). Apologies if I sound slightly confused, because I am!

I have a Peavey Spectrum Bass unit - it is just presets and some of them are close to a bass guitar. (It's a MIDI 19" rack unit.)

I have a Minitaur and it does what it does; I'm planning to get a KMI 12 Step to play it, as I can't select things with my current Ketron pedals. I don't want a computer in the loop, though. I've also got a Roland SH-32 and it is a pretty awesome piece of kit.

If you put a cover on the bridge of a P- or J- bass, then you can hide the sponge under there. (Originally, Rickenbackers had a sliding bridge cover with a mute pad.)

Just put a sponge under the strings. Or buy a Ric. :-)

I've got a couple of Status basses and the action is low. Status strings also seem to have less tension than other brands.

I've been thinking of going , but I'd be setting off from Berks at lunchtime, so it might be too late in the day.

I like the fret lines - quite subtle.

Status do graphite necks - here's a fretless one I've got on a Warmoth body.

I've got two fretless basses: one lined and one unlined; I prefer the unlined one, because it feels less restrictive.

Just a further update - I did buy the fretless too... I think I prefer the fretted one, so am thinking of swapping the neck on this one for a fretted, or maybe just selling the bass so I can move on to my next thing.

I think that the UK importer of Rockinbetters was/is a company called "Tokai", but it's not the Japanese company who make guitars and so can be confusing. As for those Rockinbetters and other Chickenbackers, I really don't like them, not one bit. I respect Rickenbacker for protecting their brand; why can't companies show a bit of originality and make their own designs? That said, I've got a Matsumoku Ric copy and it is a quite nice bass; I got it incomplete in bits for a bit of fun and just need to do the TRC for it to be complete (the fool who had it before stripped of the original brand and replaced it with the "R" word). It sounds pretty damn Ric-like! (Mind you, I've also got two real Rics, so my bonafides are alright.)
