  1. Well, there are two amps there. Alternatively, if it is a mono cable, then perhaps the owner only likes the treble pickup and uses the selector as a kill switch!
  2. By "beginners'" do you mean cheap? You'd be better off buying a used good one which you can sell on at the same price if you decide it's not for you.
  3. I like a Thunderbird, but they are just too big for me and I'd need an arm extension to play one. The Epis are hugely variable in price.
  4. I've got a Bill Wyman bass...
  5. You know when you just say "FFS"...? I hope folks didn't miss the link to the video there!
  6. Some (earlier) kit didn't do the full 128 range for velocities.
  7. I've been waiting for a Precision (wider neck than a Jazz) to appear to put mine on.
  8. Yep - a bit like an integrated hi-fi vs. separates.
  9. Hope you enjoy it! You could also try going to a Bass Bash - they are better than any show!
  10. I think the Bass Bashes are great and folks are pretty good. I might've cranked up my amp a bit at one when I was trying out a Barefaced 1x10 before buying it, but otherwise very civilised.
  11. Actually, I need one of those cross-head screws for a Ric bass tuner! (The blue one's D.)
  12. Sure - I have some earplugs and they are essential! But the volumes being at a level where it is uncomfortable and you can't hold a conversation make it an unpleasant place to be. I don't have the answer - maybe acoustic booths, loud rooms, or something. I would also say that being in a relatively small hall with several cranked up bass amps is probably louder than a pub gig, or even a large venue concert. As for the moan aspect, consider it feedback (haha - geddit?).
  13. Well, when I went a couple of years ago, it got so loud that my whole head was reverberating and I had to go out. There were one or two stands where folks were hogging the kit too.
  14. The best basses ever made. However, I wouldn't buy those strings, regardless of whether they include "FREE UK SECOND CLASS POSTAGE".
  15. Now trying at £300... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bass-guitar-5-strings-blue-There-is-a-little-chip-on-the-back-of-the-guitar/233315507718
  16. Bloddy 'ell - it's a basket case!
  17. BTN sell bass hardware (Hipshot, Schaller, Sperzel, etc.). Alex is a bass player and they sometimes set up stand at shows (eg. Kempton Park last year). https://www.btnmusic.co.uk/
  18. MIDI is networking for synths; you can use one keyboard as "controller" to other modules (which may or may not have keyboards). The "address" of a unit is its MIDI channel (0-15); you have to be able to set your keyboard to send on the other unit's channel (eg. 2); this can be a bit of a faff on some, with obscure button presses. Also, some older ones may only support subsets of MIDI, so it's important to check compatibility. As far as a keyboard's MIDI In goes, it can be use to control the keyboard (eg. with a switch board or expression pedal rather than a keyboard proper). Here's a good reference. https://noterepeat.com/articles/how-to/213-midi-basics-common-terms-explained
  19. They're on AliExpress.
  20. It's amusing how they're claiming to have patented these!
  21. I have one of those conversion bridges in my parts box - haven't quite got 'round to fitting it to something yet... The price looks good, but wrong end of the country for me...
  22. I quite like the multi-room layout.
  23. Sure - I'm not doom-mongering or anything 🙂 - just deciding whether it will be worth my while! So far it's looking like lean pickings on the exhibitors front (I wonder if Warwick will take some parts - I need a just-a-nut for a 5-string). Artiste-wise, paul Gilbert is a good 'un and Becky Baldwin with her Ric would be cool. One thing I have to remember, assuming I go, is to take my ear-plugs; the previous one I went to was physically painful at times!
