  1. It is a stock model after all; got this back from JHS. I think the date reads '1997'.
  2. Yes, agreed on both points. I'll hopefully find out more from them tomorrow; the guy on the phone only knew about brass and woodwind so he had to find someone in the know!
  3. @RandomBass The original seller's photo. Neck feels good and it's quite light too (think that's a common thing with these V4s). Only VT + 3 way switch says to me the J pup is retro-fitted. I could be wrong. I've no reason to believe the body is not JHS, given the layout of the pickguard screws and aforementioned weight.
  4. Hi all, Following some good reviews on here, I recently acquired a JHS Vintage V4 as a spare / something bit different to my 80s Fender Jazz Special (PJ) - original P and Hot Stack J as per Duff M 🙂 It's quite a bass by any standards, let alone in its price range. It is actually a PJ; there are none on the JHS website so I've asked them if this is a) a model they did or b) an owner retro-fitting, and am awaiting response. So.... I did only get the V4 for a the 'P' function, which sounds decent. The 'J' pickup isn't particularly strong / to my taste (and yes, I've adjusted pickup heights to compensate for output differences). I'm contemplating an upgrade for one or both pickups. I generally play rock / 80s pop, indie stuff etc and wouldn't mind something a bit different to the Jazz Special (Which has a less-than-traditional sound on the 'P' pickup, IMO). The EMG Geezer Butler set seems pretty good, as does the 60 J and 58 P combo from Bareknuckle. Naively, I assume the Bareknuckle '58 P would be fairly similar to the Fender Custom Shop 59 found in the Dirnt sig models, which I'm most impressed by. Opinions welcome one or both options! Thanks
  5. at £70, this must be worth a pop. If I had seen this a week earlier... https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/232808333574?chn=ps&adgroupid=43920634520&rlsatarget=pla-359427365517&abcId=1063846&adtype=pla&merchantid=116621263&poi=&googleloc=9045629&device=c&campaignid=797602469&crdt=0
  6. A JJ Jewel. I preferred the feel and sound to my somewhat pricier Les Paul Custom; it's a lot of guitar for the money.
  7. It was several frets, so I paid him what the guitar tech quoted. Yeah it could have been a simple bit of malleting but I for the sake of a few quid, the issue has been resolved.
  8. One of several sent as below. I guess not having played the guitar regularly this passed me by (same goes for the chap who gave the electrics a once-over two weeks previous). It'll definitely be something I look for when buying and selling in future, so lesson learned.
  9. Essentially, yes. I pointed out the T&Cs bit about 7 days but did not receive any gratitude for showing discretion. Hey ho, such is life. Now that I have no non-bass equipment to move on, I'll stick to BC!
  10. Resolved: he's taking the instrument to a setup guy to get the frets sorted, and I'm paying. A satisfactory result for all, I'm happy to say.
  11. 10 days, which is beyond the 7 days buyer / seller protection date specified. Technically, I've gone beyond my obligation in offering to pay any repair bill although they could still try to dispute over PainPal. I hope this can be sorted in an adult fashion.
  12. Had a response and I have asked again for photos, which are due tomorrow it seems, plus I've offered to foot a repair bill. I then noticed there's a 7 day period in which to raise issues on Reverb, which this is outside of. More to follow.... Regardless of outcome, BC is always the way to go!
  13. Thanks both. It isn't a 'big brand' so to speak, so the cynic in me says he is having trouble selling it on. Could just be that I simply didn't notice (nor did the guitar guy who did a once over of the electronics a few weeks back). I shall get back to him.
  14. Hi folks, Some advice Having sold a guitar on Reverb to what appears to be a guitar shop (as opposed to a private buyer), they have asked for a refund, telling me several frets are slightly unseated (0.2 - 0.3mm). I never noticed this, and wonder if this is a "I don't want this anymore and I need an excuse" or if it is a genuine issue. I'd have thought such an issue is easily remedied with gentle hammer work (especially for a dealer). I stated the frets and electronics were in very good condition, seeing as there was no wear and the pots etc all worked fine. I set a 'No returns' policy for the sale. This is why I don't like dealing outside the realms of the good people of BC! Advice welcome.
  15. Just received some strings from Pawel: good comms and quick dispatch makes for another good BC transaction!
  16. I sold a guitar on reverb recently. The offer / counter-offer thing works pretty well, and although it went for less than the asking price, the lower selling fee made it a good alternative to eBay. That is somewhat anecdotal as it's my only experience, but it doesn't hurt to list it on multiple sites.

  18. Indeed. I'm in the 'got a Kemper to cease pedal aquisition' camp but the Cali and Fuzz offerings are most alluring. Hmm
  19. Some absolutely cracking kit here! May I ask what has brought on this spring clean?
  20. @samcrabtree00 may still be looking for one of these...
  21. Should anyone fancy a budget version of the Mastotron, there's this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071VSSKTH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I had one and it sounded pretty good for that tight synth fuzz sound, however I think I had a dodgy one as there was a nasty whine coming from it. Probably just bad luck so for that price I might grab a replacement.
  22. I had a reply a short time ago; expecting some movement very soon...
  23. I've emailed twice, yet to hear anything. Pretty poor, especially being a loyal customer.
