1. Great amp, my favourite version of the ABM500. Worth every penny
2.
Theft as well. During a sound check (outside show) in Gibraltar, a Monkey ran off with our MD's, Piano mains lead, along with a slice of his Pizza....
Brilliant! I've had support bands hurriedly ripping out leads when clearing the stage after their set and taking or unplugging what the shouldn't but never had drama with a monkey! Did he get a beer from the rider too??
3.
Now, not wishing for this to appear like a trolling post, surely the point of cables like OBBM removes the necessity of having "been doing this for years" in that you buy ones that last?
Mate, been playing a long time, losing cables out gigging / touring, damaging stuff on stage etc, all needs replacing in time due to wear. totally get what you mean if you just plug in at home an that, well made stuff will last ages. i dont have the luxury of a tech, so will knock up leads as i need them.
4. All of the cable "makers" mentioned here build them from commercially available cable and plugs so I dont know why more musicians dont build their own - been doing this for years, good cable like Canare and switchcraft plugs, job done
5. Hmm, no DI? Not really a pre-amp without that is it, just an OD/dist box.....
6. i wish they would do natural finishes like they did in the 70s, always a cool look
7. Infuriating when this happens. Can you imagine the lead guitarists Telecaster DI'd before the amp? We have the luxury of having our own sound engineer and we use him on the desk at every venue. Most house engineers, even at some of the bigger venues don't seem to mind this at all.
8. EVO2 500 and a RPM1 here, and a 610
9.
I`ve found when using ABMs as provided rigs that I set all eq at midday, then back off the bass to about 9/10 o`clock (I get my eq from my Sansamp). Out of all the various different rigs I`ve used the Ashdown ABMS are the ones that I`ve gotten the best on-stage sound from, and I`ve used the ABMs with both 410s and 215s this way.
Interesting that you back off the bass on the ABM, I have to do that too or its way too bass heavey. Are you running the Sansamp into the effects return then, otherwise thats two pre-amps??!! Don't Ashdown do cabs with black speakers? I've seen some on stages like that, Foxton etc?
10.
Well an update folks, I bagged myself an ABM 600 EVO IV today for £499, a saving of £150 on the rrp. So, sitting firmly in the Ashdown camp, I now have to sell all the Aguilar gear. No-one said it was gonna be easy, this bass playing lark....................
what cab are you rockin that with? Ive got a EVO II and a 610 - can be a bit dark and im never sure if its the head or the blue speakers??
11. I use a Solidgold FX Horizon. Old school optical comp - very Macca Revolver era!
12. I did with cabs, never had lightweight heads though. Now back to a 610 - Ashdown. No balls in them flimsy cabs and speakers
13. As per my post in the bass cable thread, homemade with Canare GS6 and Switchcraft plugs
14. Make my own - Canare GS6, Switchcraft jacks. Good cable and never any interference on big busy stages
15. The big fat Tamla Motown ones for me
16. Dave Hall pre's are top notch, both live and for recording
17. Flat wounds, them big heavy Motown ones on my Precision - oh yes! Had em on for years
18. Using a SolidGold FX Horizon - gorgeous old school optical compression
