You have to start doing gigs regularly to build up a following. Though not too many gigs otherwise people will get bored. The theory is eventually you'll work your way up the bill bring in more punters/friends etc, & then start to (hopefully) get a bit of dosh. Band I'm in, do it because we enjoy it - when it stops being fun we'll all do something else. We get a bit of money for some & nothing for others. None of the paid gigs we get, are ever going to enable me to pack in my dayjob Myspace (unfortunately) does help, along with an uploaded representative demo. Lastly, try hussling for gigs outskirts Bristol & in SW - Radstock,Wells,Bath, Swindon,Burnham etc can be great places to play Some good links http://www.ourband.net/new_asp/venue_select_county.asp http://www.bbc.co.uk/somerset/entertainmen...o_z_index.shtml http://www.bristolbands.com/venues.php Good luck
 2.
That'll have been Paul Ryder. +1 for Mani, I still love playing his lines - really annoyed the rest of my band last night by breaking into "the bit" from I am the Resurrection at every available opportunity!
Two great bassists from the 'Madchester' era. Big influences on myself too. I was luck enough to acquire Paul Ryder's Monday's bass some years ago: http://www.mdmarchive.co.uk/archive/showar...260&bid=444 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2yK-NUyAIY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuJqfqGgz7M I occaisionally still get offers for it from Monday's collectors.

 7.
The first will work well with a Kappalite 3015 or 3015LF (the latter will need some kind of midrange speaker). Are the cabs already ported and what are the port dimensions? Alex
Thanks all, for advice. Don't think they are ported, but will have to check. Pair of both types - four cabs(!) for £30-40. Do you reckon it's worth it? Cheers
 8.
I like the way some chancer's offered an £85 BIN for the RickenFaker! Obviously can't tell when a seller's playing dumb! J.
Brilliant! I'll have to use that one myself..... Doing well though at £190 especially considering it's condition.
 9. Hello all, I've seen some cabinets advertised locally which would hold 15" drivers. These are missing, but cabs are cheap . Dimensions are: 26"(H) x 22"(W) x 17"(D) and 31"(H) x 18"(W) x 30"(D) Was wondering if anyone could please advise me if either may be suitable for bass with decent driver(?) Many thanks
 10.
Listen to the music and feel your bass.
Definitely +1 If you can, make a CD or tape of whichever songs, & play frequently in the car etc, till you know them inside out. Try to listen to everything including what the bass is doing. Getting the feel is often overlooked, but can sometimes be more beneficial than nailing those tricky bits & nuances, that nobody really notices half the time anyway. Good luck
 11.
Hmm - you suspect a spy in our midst? J.
You never know. Even though this & Japcrap are my own personal favourites on BC, I don't post any Rickenfaker sightings myself now, whether I'm interested or not. Like you I have a large watch list, spend time scouring Ebay for anything of interest. However, one thing I have noticed is that Rick copy listings generally do tend to get removed shortly after getting posted here. Could be coincidence...possibly paranoia. I dunno If I was Rickenwaffen, I would certainly subscribe to this forum.
 12.
I do think the seller's playing dumb. J
Possibly. I emailed him asking if he would consider an offer or BIN, it's quite local to me. Response was along the lines of he didn't what it was worth due to damage etc. Maybe he doesn't. Sniped it anyway - though I'm not sure I need another! Will also be interesting to see how long it stays on before removal by Rickenwaffen, now it's been posted here
 13.
one of our guitarists got a brand new Gibson 335. We were backstage at the Moels club in Bath(anyone remember it?) and we had a bit of time to tinker with our new toys. We were all cleaning our guitars and such when the guitarist reached into the road crews box of tricks and pulled out a bottle of meths, unbeknown to the rest of us. About thirty seconds later he showed us what had happened as he tied to polish the 335, most of the finish on the front of it had softened and started to rub away, half a dozen wipes of the cloth and the guitar was worth about £500 less.
Sounds like Sploote (?!)
 14. All the above are excellent suggestions. Fingers & pick in various places i.e. by bridge, midway over pick-up, or up by the neck. Fretting higher up the neck on lower strings, for a thicker sound. Playing across strings for more of a twang. Even chords. Experiment, & listen to as many different genres as possible. Pedalwise; a Sansamp or cheaper Behringer clone can help spice up an average amp.
 15.
Anyone know who the dude on bass was....?
Joe Long (I think)
 16.
Then it came to me after I had hummed the tune a few times. 'The Night': Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Straight donw the record shop, back home, just been playing it, and I now am pretty sure where my love of bass came from, it was that track. In fact, the feel of that track has dominated everything I've ever tried to play on bass without me really realising it. C
Top tune, one of my all time favourites too. You obviously have impeccable taste

 19. +1 all the above. Plus decent gauge flats, also possibly tuning to B-E-A-D. Have you checked out Todd Terry's 1999 album 'Resolutions'? A classic.

 24. With regard to some of the above views on Royal Mail & non-receipt of purchased items; I would have to comment on my recent experiences (last six weeks) of purcased things not turning up. Each time sellers stating goods sent, though unfortunately not tracked. Fortunately sellers senT replacements for all items 'lost' in Post Three seperate CD's One 12" single Set of bass strings And even Road Tax from DVLA!
