I'm working on one, roping in a couple of old friends for some remote collaboration. Hope my piano player comes through, he likes the song, but has limited time as he's writing a musical on commission ....

Just saw a Hayman being used on the 1974 Cleo Laine show on the beeb right now Saturday 22.10

Very nice work on both. I like the lower horn on the first with the upper horn on the second. Both look very tactile though!

Late to the party, but how about glueing a thin fingerboard on whilst under string tension and clamping it at the exact relief you require, say, using a metal straight edge, g-clamps small and large, and blocks . Difficult to explain without a picture, and it's bedtime!

You're both right.
The double-bound but otherwise normal Tele (1959-1972) was sold as a Custom Telecaster. That's the one for sale here and a lovely example it is too. The one with the so-called 'Wide Range Humbucker' was the Telecaster Custom (1972-1981).
Sounds about right! Thanks for straightening that out.

@NickD thanks for your input. I suspect the NS has a better basic sound (transducer etc) to start with. The hi-z input thing might be worth checking, although the buffered output of the Stagg preamp shouldn't need it, it may still sound better.

Aren't the Custom ones with the neck humbucker and hideous huge scratchplate? I also am no expert!

My friend has a Stagg eub and was asking what sort of eq and/or effects can be applied to make it sound more like an acoustic double bass. He uses Reaper and their plugins, but doesn't have any 3rd party ones.
I used to use a very short reverb on fretless bass, but it wasn't all that convincing, and don't have an eub to try anything on at home.
Any experience doing this is more than welcome, cheers.

Looks beautiful, great work again Jabba!

Sure something has been posted previously but didn't find it on a cursory glance....but, looking for a different sound on my JMJ Mustang from the current Fender Flats, just for a bit of a change. A bit more definition and punch and a bit less tension. Any experiences out there to share?
I've got Status half wound on my Mustang. Might just be what you're looking for, and not too expensive.

I liken it with going back to cities, towns, places where you've holidayed etc with which you associate some very fond memories. Fr'instance I've not been back to Liverpool since I left in the late 80s. From what I've learnt from chats with people I know who do still go there, a lot of my fave haunts have since gone. I don't want to tarnish the memories of very happy times by going back there and seeing how much it's changed.
George Orwell's Coming Up For Air is pretty much about this exact thing

I've always thought it would be a nice idea to have the tuner knobs with a larger diameter knurled section and smaller boss for ease of turning (better torque) and reversing the orientation for alternate strings. I'm surprised no one has tried this yet, AFAIK anyway!

The spec says it draws 500mA @5V, sounds rather thirsty for a battery powered application, no?

I'd say one pickup out of phase too

The Phillips head should never have been invented. The only advantage is it is cheap and easy to make.
They work much better with power tools due to the self gripping and centring. 2 other advantages.

Hmm seems to have completely changed colour too I don’t believe it’s the same bass, the flame is close but no cigar
You should see how much my SG has changed colour since 1974...

@NancyJohnson If your PC has USB 2 and USB 3 ports you could try swapping from one to the other if you haven’t already. I suspect the power supplies may be derived from different points in the main psu as they have different current capabilities. You may just get lucky .

I've a notion that some dual action truss rods operate in the opposite sense to the vast majority. I can only think it was mentioned on here in the mists of time...

Sorry, I meant Neutrik ones, should have been more specific.
It's really not worth saving a few Bob on the lookey-likeys.

Studiospares are decent for connectors and made-up cables too.

December Composition Challenge

Entry for the Basschat December 2022 cover song challenge.
As suggested by my friend Rob for an occasional get-together we have with another school friend Paul (we used to jam together and did a couple of gigs). The parts were subsequently recorded remotely, and mixed by me.
Rob did the main vocals and 3 backing vocals, Paul provided the Rhodes, grand piano and Hammond tracks and I did the bass (Mustang) acoustic parlour guitar, drums and the main backing vocals.
Gear: Mustang p-j bass, Gretsch Renown drums, Art and Lutherie Ami parlour guitar with old strings, Eggz shaker! Recorded in Reaper using stock plugs
