In with a whole 2 hours to spare today! Stated about 2 this afty.
Robots in the picture looking liverish after Christmas. A bit of dubby electronica should cheer them up!
My good friend Phil Beavis kindly supplied some synth sounds and electonic drum loops. I'm playing newly arrived Rickenbacker bass, Telecaster and acoustic drums (including my rarely heard beastly china cymbal). gretsch drums, Rogers snare, Paiste 2002 and Sig cymbals. Recorded in Reaper. 1 take all parts!- 4

Any recommendation for the Oxfordshire area?
@holty What kind of work do you need?

I've never seen a part shim cause a problem either.

Good job on the recording!

Back in the late 70s a mate had a defretted Melody Ripper like this an put a DiMarzio model 1 in it, sounded pretty good! Never had the cash to do it to mine.

Looks like it should have had the sliding pickup .
Would be a fun project to try and get that up and running again!

Someone would need to trace the circuit out. I know a pedal expert, but he isn't taking on any repairs right now.
A more in-focus close up with the idents on the transistors might help a bit

My band Charms Against the Evil Eye at Oxford O2 in November.
The end of our set featuring a flute wig-out from guest player Phil Freizinger.
Mustang through Mark Bass head into Warwick 4x10 iirc

Would it be wrong if lots of people went along and just slow clapped him constantly?
That would be most unfair to the paying public at a gig. I think it should be something more focused on the individual. The others in the act may not even be aware of his shenanigans!

Isn't that stuff rather knobbly and abrasive, or is there a version that comes out smooth?

I'd have to agree with a comment above, the cheap nut file sets are poor quality and not worth bothering with. I use a needle file set which are OK for making small adjustments. Dunno if I'd want to start from scratch with those though.

Update, clamped up again and played a hairdryer on it, then back on the radiator. @DownunderwonderThe reason I felt it needed a bit of backbow was that the truss rod didn't really seem to do any adjustment.
Anyhow, I unclamped again this afternoon and the neck still had just a slight bow, restrung and found the truss rod has now a very slight effect, so went as tight as I dared, and the relief is now just about acceptable, not quite as I'd like it, but much more playable, and bends on top e aren't choking, so I'll count that as a win. Check tomorrow that it hasn't settled back to it's former bow. Fingers crossed!

Given the Elf has gone back to PMT – and presumably Trace/Peavey – for repairs, this statement is a touch hasty in hindsight
What happened with it?

Most important thing with these basses is the setup . Get that wrong and you’re wasting your time. Get it right bass bliss.
@geofioDo you mean specific to your own playing style, or is there an accepted "right setup"?
I'm curious, as I'll be setting mine up soon once the new strings arrive and popping it in the for sale section at the end of the month.

Well, that didn't last long!
Gone to an acquaintance of a friend on Facebook.
Probably was too cheap!

I've had it clamped a sat on the radiator today. The neck is almost straight now but needs to go further yet into a back bow if it's going to play right under string tension.

Ha! There's one on ebay right now for 450!

This is the design. I think the body is like a normal p bass routing, but with a 24 fret neck the bridge has to go forward.
I used it extensively in the 80s in a punk-funk type band. I'm really short and did find it a stretch to first position and tuning. Most normal sized folk would be fine!
I've got someone coming to see it tomorrow, so it may not be around long... maybe it's priced too low?

Vox Standard Bass. Defretted.
As shown in the photos, I modified the headstock to 3+1 so it fits in a normal gig bag, also as I had trouble reaching the G tuner!
The body is stripped to bare wood, and being Butcher block construction, has a few shrinkage cracks at the edges, but is still very solid.
Excellent DiMarzio p-type pickup (standard from new) and nice fretless tone.
The neck is quite chunky, and overall the bass is hefty, at around 10lbs.
This is an inexpensive way to dip your toes in the lovely warm pool that is fretless bass. Collection only please.

Coincidentally, I fitted a replacement neck recently to a friend's strat. They were the same tuners and I made myself a little drill guide. You just choose the most convenient one, pop the screwbush of the tuner through the jig and headstock hole, line the rest of the 'stick' up with the other holes to make sure it's square and then use the jig as your guide to drill your two small pilot holes.
I found it easier then to take the guide off to drill the peg holes themselves. They don't have to be very deep so there should be little danger of drilling through.
If you pm me your address, I'd be more than happy to pop it in the post to you.
That's very kind Andy, and I'll bear it in mind if it comes to this. I love this community!

It's actually a 22 fret, but thanks for the link, could prove very useful.
That headstock would need drilling for the tuners, they're the square one with the 2 locating pins. I wonder if there's a template for drilling those?
