Thanks for the offer, I ended up getting one of the Fallout tribute basses that Anderson's were selling for £349, seems good so far but there is some fret buzz so I think it probably needs a fret dress
I'd be disappointed if a brand new bass needed a fret dress, are you sure it just doesn't need a truss rod tweak?
Having said that, my almost new new Mustang had a couple of frets that needed slight attention too.

Just getting into an album called Then, a live recording of the Allan Holdsworth band. Flim Johnson sounds absolutely awesome.
Just listened to a track off that- fierce playing from Holdsworth, I feel the bass can get overlooked on a lot of his stuff

Unorthodox Behaviour by Brand X, especially the first track Thermonuclear Burn. I must have heard it shortly after it came out, and I'd never heard anything like it before. I still enjoy it. Percy Jones had his own style, both notes and sounds.

Came across this bass on eBay... looks like some kind of Klingon weapon.

This should get copied into the small-bodied basses thread. I actually don't mind this one!

Good point, well made!

I might try some Status tapewounds for my Mustang- anyone tried them?

Parallel compression with fairly aggressive distortion and compression mixed with your original drum mix can add fatness and excitement .
I'm sure I read something on here ages ago by @Dad3353 about something that subtly adjusts drum hit levels to make it sound more human.

Super early. I think mine's 67 from memory

I like the contours on the Fallout, kinda wish the pj Mustang had that too...

Lovely! That's a nice wood selection.
Does your one have a serial number?

I like small bodied basses. The Hohner Jack bass had a very comfy small body, like a sleeker strat. My main 2 basses for the last 12 years were U.S. Masters ep42s, very small body, 24 frets with full access right to the top.
Sei Flamboyant is small too

That must be the one I’ve just ordered!
Did you get your lighter one for £349 too?
Is that the Zippo one?
I've heard it's a little lighter 😉

I don't wear this wood argument. I have a P bass that I made out of bits from EBay. It's cheap wood and paint from Homebase. I put EMG's in it and it sounds as good as my American Std. P bass.
I don't think it's the type of wood, just the amount of it in this instance

No, the board was plenty long enough. Unless you go for a zero fret, then the board has to be either slotted to fit the nut, or split there, assuming an extension beyond the nut is required. In this instance, it was easier and neater to split it
Fairy nuff!

Sounds like a dry joint around the processing (dsp?) chip. Something is going open circuit as it warms up. Freezer spray is handy for diagnosis of this sort of thing. A microscope I handy too, but you need to know what to look out for regarding solder joint quality on surface mounted components.
-
Just out of curiosity, why didn't you make the fingerboard continuous past the nut, in one piece? Were you limited by the board blank length?
-
I'm pretty sure it's the thicker neck. Fewer frequencies being absorbed at random points. If you've played a metal necked instrument, for instance, you notice a very wide presence of frequencies.

A pedal or amp with a sweepable notch filter is extremely effective at killing feedback. You still have to take care damping the strings to keep the whole thing under control though

Here is my contribution to the December 2021 Basschat Composition Challenge, illustrated with a picture chosen by the Master of Ceremonies: Lurksalot.
Not a lot to say about this one; it's all in the song. A long-time favourite, it's become sadly more apt and poignant as Life deals out its cards. They're not all aces.
I had intended playing the instruments myself, but decided after many attempts that it would not be fair to inflict that upon you all, so I fell back on a choice of Vst's (somewhat limited due to the loss of a 3Tb USB disk...). For the vocal, I couldn't (and still can't...) find my Superlux mic, so had to buy another (Marantz MPM 1000...) which has proved to be very satisfactory. My voice, however, has not. As I said, it's not all aces.
Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy, and Merry Christmas to one and all.Good work Douglas, I found that incredibly moving.

As I understand it, they are just selling the last of their stock of the flats and halves. I think the prices on the site are pre-VAT, too, so that will be added at checkout.
I don't remember vat being added a year ago. Also, I thought the flats were from their new supplier, but could be wrong there. I thought I read something that hinted hinted they were now supplied by Piccato, but have no evidence 😀

And even that looks better than a Rick! I find their white plastic scratchplate ghastly.
