wow...2014 😟
thought this was last year...you know you’re getting old when...ah, wrong thread.
Still showing a strong Bowie influence back then. Not that far removed from the current offering, just a bit more immediate hook.

Looks like there's something missing

Ooh! Sounds handy for when I'm trying to record myself whilst at the drum kit. My pc is handily positioned across the room for operation when I'm standing up playing the bass.

That of course is actual GOLD not mere paint or laquer. And an expensive optional extra. But hugely better though it is than the scuffed goldish lacquer on my Warwick.... It's still, imho, rather naff, like gold taps in dubai hotel bathroom.
I was in electric wood's workshop last year and they had a whole tray of gold plated pole pieces just back from the plating people. Gold all the way down, not just the visible tips. Silly.
In that particular case it would be more time consuming to just plate the ends

One thing slightly puzzling me is that in a Bass Player article about the song, Nile Rodgers said Bernard plugged straight into the desk to record it (with the band playing live, together). Yet on this I can hear what sounds like a bleed of the track from some headphones.
Any ideas?Tape crosstalk?

Sold some machines to Stu, seamless transaction. Highly recommended!

Ooh, a lipstick p/up in the bridge! Too much?
Yeah, that kind of thing. Chrome for the split too though!

I've finally got around to looking at this. Lining up the Performer P/J config Mustang with a Vintera, one pickup one, reveals that the bridge p/up would need to go hard up against the bigger bridge plate of the normal Mustang. This is also born out if you resize a 34" P/J Precision to 30' scale and line it up at the nut, 12th fret and bridge (although the Mustang's pickup does sit a little north of the Precision position). Using a '50s reissue as a source image for the pickup gives us this...
Because of the string spacing, there is a wee gap in the mockup, but you get the idea. I've added an extra knob rather than get into cloning a 3 way toggle on. I don't think it looks too bad from an aesthetic standpoint.
Looks great! Shiny chrome pickup covers would look nicely retro too! Is there even such a thing?

Can you put a P pick up (block style) on the vintera, i.e is there a pick guard out there to support the size difference and cavity etc
If the Vintera is a Mexican made beastie, I'd guess the routing is the same as the p-j one.

Shameless plug, but I've just posted a black Fender Mex bridge in accessories that would look good on that.

Including postage, collection from Didcot also possible. These are almost unused, from a 2019 Mexican Mustang, all bushes and mounting screws included. I've got the matching bridge if you want to go full stealth!
There are one or two tiny marks on them, impossible to photo, black stuff being awkward to shoot anyhow. They work very smoothly with no issues at all.

I wouldn't punt it based on the preamp. East does a bunch of other more conventional preamps you would find easier to work with, and easy to change, as they are solderless connectors. This preamp would probably fly out of the classified ads if the price was right.

@Leonard Smalls sound in this month's composition challenge is pretty epic! Should be checked out. Probably a Wal with a flip ton of effects!

Health bunch of entries this month!

This is in early by my standards. I started out under the influence of the Sneaky Little Devil type slow grooves, toyed briefly with cod-reggae and ended up here. Not sure where here is, there aren't any signs and I arrived here very quickly!
This tune is meant to make you feel uneasy. It's often in 15/8, and often not.
Mustang bass into valve amp with a bit of drive. Godin guitar into same amp with CryBaby. Drums with parallel compression and distortion, a new experiment. All the glitches are as-played, no fancy slicing and dicing going on in the digital domain. No siree!- 5

This isn't the bad jokes thread y'know.
You haven't heard it yet!!
I have actually cobbled something together tonight. It's rather odd, and not gone where I expected. At all.
I'll listen again tomorrow and see if it's worth posting or fettling a bit more. The good news for Dad is there's plenty of crunchy drums in there, along with Steve Hillage on Mogadon...

I'm probably out this month. All I've got is a drum take that's mainly in 15/8, then the wheels fell off in the middle. I cut my finger on Saturday and haven't felt inclined to play since. So it won't be worth posting what I've got so far. Sorry

How about replacing the zero fret with an adjustable (Warwick style) nut?
