  1. This looks cool. To my eternal shame I have a Wav 4 bass and I’ve literally never played it.
  2. Some people reckon it’s hippy BS but this could help you: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/alexander-technique/#:~:text=The Alexander technique teaches improved, posture and move more efficiently. I suffered from back pain after a motorbike injury and this - as well as some work at the gym - has transformed my posture. Im not medical expert so always speak to a professional before doing anything but don’t ever risk your back.
  3. One of the beautiful things about the double bass are the overtones. Of course, you won’t get this with an EUB. Adding a bit of chorus or reverb can help add another dimension to the sound, too.
  4. As everyone else says, don’t do anything too drastic!
  5. Think we can all agree that a ply bass is the way to go. One thing to consider is the cost of a set up and strings. A good set of strings is £150+ and a set-up can cost anything from £100 to £rightening. When it comes to double basses there aren't many "bargains" to be had. An unloved, unused or uncared for bass is a money pit. As someone said on here, buy from someone you can trust – either a dealer or a trusted forum member. Try before you buy and take lessons from someone who has played before to avoid short term pain and long term damage.
  6. Yeah! I’ve got a pdf copy of it but the book is much better.
  7. I want to buy it and can get it online but thought I'd ask the team! Progressive Repertoire for Double Bass - Vol. 1 (I know I could put a wanted ad down there, but nobody checks that do they)
  8. I’m not sure how that’s possible with guests requesting 24/7 access. When I was heading to Europe for a tour, the hotel manager allowed us to put all of our gear in a conference room. Turns out the Sky cycling team were staying at the same hotel and all their £13k Pinarellos were in there as well. Its easy to be judgemental here, but we’ve all left stuff in cars and vans I guess and it’s a horrid feeling.
  9. If one of my kids made that, I'd be impressed but I'd still hide it away in the loft.
  10. It is indeed a thing of absolute horror.
  11. This is going to put UK politicians in a real pickle. Trump is anti-Europe and will wage a trade war. The UK can, if it wants to, placate him and avoid that. But the risk is that we upset Europe and put a greater barrier in the way. It's fascinating and scary in equal measure. Prices here will increase and I can see that having a huge impact on consumers which is of course, you and me.
  12. It depends on the EB but I think someone on here might be able to recommend a more suitable stand if I’m honest.
  13. No, but I reckon it would be a bit easier to put the bass on and off if you did. If you extend the end pin a long way then you’d probably have to stick it in.
  14. Makes no impact at all.
  15. You can use the effects loop on the pre amp. I don’t do this (dont use effects) but that’s logical approach. I’m sure someone here will offer some advice. L Worth taking read through the instructions. https://ebssweden.com/content2/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/SCPRE_manualA6.pdf
  16. You mate have see my post about whether to sell or fix up my old Musima bass. After a few weeks with @tommyjamesallen it’s now better than ever. New bridge, endpin, set up and sound post adjustment. It sounds fantastic and the work was very reasonable. And he’s a nice guy. Thoroughly recommended.
  17. That would make logical sense. eBay has the answer: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/listing-tips/page-views?id=4165#:~:text=Once a day%2C the counts, traffic is detected and removed. As for the OP, if your item isn't selling, I'd reduce the price. As anyone knows, views are a vanity metric, it's conversions that count.
  18. The only thing we can do is to use our purchasing power to influence change. The increase in courier competition has led a race to the bottom. Like Chris I simply won’t post expensive basses anymore. Bit strings? Absolutely. But not with Evri.
  19. Whatever you use, try it in a non visible place and (on the back I guess) and only do a little bit. I say this as someone who didn’t do it and regret it.
  20. All good, it’s your journey.
  21. I saw the video. You’re fighting with the bass the whole time. A mat on the floor can stop it sliding and you’re happy so all good.
  22. And I can’t stand Prince or P-Funk so the world evens out!
  23. This is how I've been taught to play sitting down (by two teachers).
  24. Nice one. Will invest for the gig box. Always good to have this stuff when it’s needed. I’ve done the same when playing on flagstones. I did take some audio insulation foam once and that worked OK. In terms of the OP, the bass is too upright for sitting. When you move to thumb position you’re shifting the bass and your weight, but if it was properly positioned then you wouldn’t have this issue. I’m not going to recommend a lesson or two as I got duffed up last time. Check out Discover Double Bass maybe and see how some of the presenters there sit with their basses.
  25. I can attest to this. A prominent shop in Scotland sold two of my old basses. Both were constructed from vintage parts. This was made clear to me when I bought them and made clear to the new owners when I sold them. Sadly the vintage shop either didn’t know, or, perhaps more likely, ignored it.
