  1. Chalk it up to experience. A month or so ago we did a gig at a pub which was ostensibly part of a larger festival programme. We were paid by the venue but it turns out that none of the bands who played the festival were paid a penny. Would have been ok but our singer told them all we’d been paid. This caused quite a lot of strife!
  2. Didn’t think these were particularly desirable to be fair.
  3. A few friends of mine are going and I’ll go along as well. Be an expensive trip down memory lane but it’s all harmless, isn’t it? I don’t understand the anger aimed at them to be honest. It’s all an act at the end of the day. Rock and roll, etc.
  4. The paradox of relicing is the attempt to make authentic wear - which is by its very nature random and unpredictable - into something that can be replicated. One of the most prominent marks on my 66 Fender is from where I placed a wine glass on it and something reacted with the paint to cause a mark. I also used Pledge on the finish which probably wasn’t a good idea. Scraping that off quickly caused a bit of wear too! Given I’ve played it a few times in the last 10 years I guess it doesn’t matter, but the point remains.
  5. Slow and steady! It’s worth getting a lesson if you can, simply as someone experienced can diagnose and fix any poor technique. Failing that, Discover Double Bass is a wonderful resource. Looks like a great bass. Personally I try to play every day for at least 15 minutes. On some days I’ll do a few hours and gigs can last anything from 1-3 hours so you need the stamina!
  6. The problem you might have here is a private seller trying to get back the same price they paid at BassBros. I appreciate people always do this. But you have to remember someone sold it to BassBros substantially cheaper (I’d estimate about £2000 - £2200) which probably more accurately reflects its private market value. If you want to know how the vintage market is, try selling a vintage guitar back to the shop you bought it from. In most cases they’re not interested. Funny that… If you can get this at a good price and it plays well I can’t see you losing out.
  7. These the ones with the leather-ette pickguard? I had one years ago. Was a very odd bass.
  8. Website seems to be down.
  9. I absolutely love this.
  10. Simplest answer is usually the right one. Someone probably swapped out the pickups and did a DIY job (or sent it to a luthier) and then put it back to stock at some point. You could tell a bit more about that by the soldering probably.
  11. Yeah looks quite dried out. Not for me, but if it’s available at the right price then why not.
  12. The sunburst on that body is all shades of wrong for a Fender of that period. They have my brighter red in them. Could have been sun bleached of course but it doesn’t look right to me. -Edit- after looking a bit more closely it looks better than I thought. May just be a very light paint job and the route there may have been an aftermarket pickup that’s now been put right again.
  13. This is an excellent exercise for double bass and one I do regularly to keep my intonation ok. I’m still rubbish, obviously, but it’s helping.
  14. The Dingwall will have better resale value than the Ibanez. Can’t you chop in your old one? Alternatively, but on PayPal credit and pay it off over 4 months. That Dingwall bass looks amazing.
  15. Sounds good. I'm all done now and have 96 alcohol wipes left (if anyone needs any?)
  16. Guess they're victims of their own popularity. Either that or Will is falling over the UK's largest collection of used Musicman Stingray basses (currently 15).
  17. Hello! I'm selling my David Gage Czech Ease bass and flightcase. If you didn't know, these are a full 3/4 scale bass with a uniquely designed body shape. This one is all-ply construction, but it feels and sounds wonderful. I bought this as I had several outdoor gigs and I needed a portable bass (compared to the metal one). The metal one has now sold and a new wooden bass means this is surplus to requirements . The bass is in good used condition. This has been gigged (across the world, I believe) and has some scars to prove it. there are no marks or dents on the neck but there are marks all over the body (none that have caused cracks or damage) and a small chip out of the scroll (which, would you believe it, is removable!) The bass has had a recent set up and a new set of Spirocore Orchestral strings. It sounds wonderful, rich and vibrant. Action is low and the bass is ready to go. It comes with the official David Gage moulded flightcase. It doesn't, however, come with a gigbag. The original supplied with the bass pershed and I haven't had a chance to purchase a replacement. This is factored into the price. The David Gage pickup is nearly new (replaced the existing one which wore out). The only slight issue I want to raise is a small gap in the wood at the bottom where the string wire grabs the end pin. This is stable, has never moved and isn't a fault or failure, but I wanted to mention it. Images as requested. This was checked as part of the set-up and is fine. The price of £1995 I think is good value. I will not send the bass anywhere. I won't entrust it to a courier or your friend with a van. I'm not really interested in trades. Finally, I'll be away from 24 August to 30th – but can welcome you here to check out the bass before and after those dates. Here come the pictures...
  18. …and when they buy it they don’t actually check it all that well (as I can attest)
  19. How does that work?
  20. Ere mate, what’s your best cash on collection price for all three? All joking aside, these Zeller basses are fantastic value for money.
  21. Yes, Chris and I had this conversation. It’s based around the Czech Ease bass I own. I bought it as a lightweight and easy to carry bass for gigs when the metal one was too heavy. Now the metal one has been replaced with a wood one, I now longer need two. Solves a problem I don’t have. So that’ll be up for the cull after my holiday as it’s currently used as a cat bed.
  22. That’s a great tip. I have a bottle I used for electric bass fretboards which I used. All this help was perfect in cleaning up the bass and getting it ready for new strings
  23. Thomann customer service was excellent.
