This is our debut album due for release in September
2. The finish is thick enough to rebuff with cutting/polishing compound the MIMs have a very thick poly coat. . Just go careful at the edges
3. The type of cap will make a very small difference in your tone, hardly noticeable. The value you chose will determine how much high end is preserved and how much difference there is between fully open and fully closed. Orange drops are used plentifully because they are a good fit size wise in the control cavity, reliable and cost effective. Pio caps can sound a tiny bit better, but they also dry out and age over time, changing the tone as they do so, have a much shorter lifespan. And they are much more expensive.
4. Cheers guys, the tracks have yet to be mastered. They will end up far more even. I will up the vocals and the fx on them though as I agree with what you say. I have already lowered the guitar in the chorus and sorted the snare, just an extra 1db fixed it a treat. I'm going to leave the kick alone for now. Here's the last one i'm going to let out for a preview. This one has has some mastering done by myself but will be mastered properly with the rest of the tracks for the album. The reason I come here with these tracks is exactly for the reasons you give above. I record us in my studio, which means we get all the time in the world but sometimes not having a producer who isn't in the band means you miss little things that can make a good track a killer. so again I beg of your thoughts... https://soundcloud.c...-as-yet/s-yuITV We have got 11 and a half tracks down in the last 3 months and 2 and a half left to do before our deadline date of 15th august (Mastering date) I should get the first pressed batch of 250 CD's and artwork around the first week of September. Hopefully a full release iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Tidal etc..will occur 9/9/16. We are hoping to do most of it ourselves. We have only done 18 live shows as a band so far we have a local festival to play next weekend, but then have none booked for the next 6 weeks. We have a 20 date tour (3 gigs a week) of the UK arranged for September/October to promote the album and a yet to be decided debut single.(probably the second track on my opening post) we are hoping to pick up some more dates from the tour. All sound reasonable?
5. [s]Tried to listen but Chrome hates bandcamp [/s] Never mind... I got it working now. "Blind Obedience" is realy realy good. I like "The Fall" too but I'm afraid that for me the other two are just to similar and lack the hooks of the other two. I'm not saying they are bad by a long stretch. just a bit samey for me. Have you ever considered adding a vocalist? I'm sure there is a market out there for this kind of stuff, probably even more so with vocals. Its got a very summery sound. Festival stuff all the way.
6. nobody wants to bite on this then?

11. One of these is up for sale locally for £130 (no lower offers) It is 2 years old and not gigged. Home rehearsal use. I have a Hartke HA5500 coupled with 2x 410's as my main rig, however sometimes just 1x 410 is to much for a small pub gig so I have been on the prowl for a good used 210 cab. So the question is have I found one? Are these loud enough for a small medium pub, will my HA5500 drive it too hard? What is the tone like from these? Is £130 a good price? I have not been able to find much about them online and often specs vary claiming it being a 200w RMS, 300w peak cab, and others suggesting its 300w RMS 400w peak. I'm a bit lost...... Anyone?
12. wow just looked back through the thread..... Looks like I prefer analogue summing then, Cheers for this little test.
13. Almost identical, but I prefer mix T2, Slightly warmer but with less clarity in the bass and a more open sounding vocal. They sure are close though.
14. Thanks, but I'm afraid that I have come to the end with this one, I know its not perfect but what is left is pretty inherent in the actual recording. If i bring the snare up i can here other badness. and the reverb mainly what was picked up in the room. Next time I'm sure ill do better. I am recording them again in a few weeks... Ill pop up them here and we will see what they end up like. I did manage to record my own band since and had an hour free today so gave it a mix. This was recorded in our rehearsal space, its far more forgiving than that village hall. I might record them there next time.
15. Well I had a chat with the BL and he is absolutely not budging with what is recorded. so the UFO's stay as do the random guitar noises. However.... I had another play today taking into account the things you people have pointed out, that I can actually do something about and here is the final result. I feel Happier with it now, The vocals are better/ clearer, and the whole mix is less shrill. It really was a few minor tweaks and then mastered slightly less aggressively . I am actually looking forward to trying the bands other two tracks in a few weeks. They seem to have better ideas with those production wise. I have a few sessions with other bands scheduled and hope to get beck to doing recording and mixing more regularly. I am not charging anything for this EP its kinda a way for me to get back into production, All be it just at an indie level. Thanks for the input! Greatly appreciated. Finished mix below!
16. Thankyou! Ok, this is exactly what I was after..... (There is definitely a UFO factory, but it's in the cellar below. I had them stop work for a few hours while recording took place) ill address all of the above in order. Almost constant extraneous parasite drone panned left; Yes this was indeed intended by the band, this was apparently the sound they have live. achieved by some dodgy cheep single coils, a "mold spore" pedal set on the "O" vowel setting and a digitech grunge pedal. I was against the "O" sound but the band insisted it was part of the sound for this track. as well as a "wobbly" guitar sound on the other side discordant guitar plicks and plocks: Was again part of the track and intended by the band. This is apparently a nod towards the nirvana track "milk it" (I don't like it ether) that they decided to put in as an overdub and wanted to keep it . I recommended he keep in key but....... Drums I was happy with, considering the room. The drummer was good to work with and quite talented! some nice fills and high hat work. I was happy also with the slightly fuzzy bass, Bassist took advice on sound and turned the fuzz down a bit and ended up with a usable sound, no dramas. I kinda liked the [s]singer[/s] front woman, not a huge talent but fit the genre, and boy could she scream ha ha. I refused to melodine her vocal for fear that it would loose its grunge feeling and attitude. I'm guessing my to-ing and fro-ing with this track isn't my ears then, its just the bands sound isn't my taste and some of their ideas to me just dont work well (but who am i to judge?) as my concerns were that same as the things you pointed out, plus one other thing and that was a harsh sounding cymbals. Again thanks a lot, I may suggest that they drop by and overdub a few different guitar parts and try and lessen that drone sound in the mix, in favor of something better. I'm betting they wont budge though.
17. I use a Alesis multimix 16 firewire for full 4 piece band recording. 16 individual tracks (8 mic pre amps and 8 high z) They do a 12 input (4 mic pre amps and 8 high z) and 8 input (4 mic pre amp and 4 high z) and have the benefit of being a standalone mixer. great bit of kit to pick up used and cheep. You may need to buy a firewire card. http://www.alesis.com/products/view/multimix-12-firewire
