Going to EBAY soon........ Seymour Duncan active jazz set with built in EQ switches, very handy indeed if you want active pickups without having an internal box to fit, especially good for tight control cavities. Runs off a 9 volt battery, according to SD's site will last 1000 hours. Used so obviously some marks. Pretty certain it will 100k pots you will need. I can scout around for wiring diagram if wanted. The wiring is a bit short due to the pups being in and out of several of my basses. (These are the second 'upgraded' to more even output series with the embossed lettering, not white printed 'Seymour Duncan). £62... includes post for UK....
By a quirk of fate (two different projects that never came off) I have two Nordstrand Jazz bass NJ4SV pick ups. These were bought seperately and the neck pick up is the straight NJ4SV, the bridge pick up is the NJ4SV R which is exactly the same pick up just with slightly raised A and D poles to cater for radiused fingerboards.I have checked and they are fine to use as a pair on either radiused or non radiused basses. They are split coil pick ups and retail at £200 for a pair as below http://www.bassdirec...nd_Pickups.html I woud prefer to sell them as a pair at £130 but will consider splitting at £70 each, but only if I can definetly sell both so if any interest in one , I will register interest and hold it till the other sells but will accept offers on both above this. Both of these are brand new condition not been installed on any bass. Price includes delivery. Cheers
PM'd
+1 on the e835, great mic, think of it as a differnet stand in for the ubiquitous sm57, where as the e845 has more eq built in and os closer to an sm58 in where its aiming. Both great value for money mics IME.
Thanks for the Sennheiser update.....The 835/845 look pretty good on spec and decent (Amazon/other shop) prices.....one with a switch could be useful. A friend of mine uses an Elecrovoice N/D 767a which sounds a little better than the SM58.....about £80 these days but a few years back when he bought they were well over £100.
SE do some cracking mics, and very affordable too. Recommended. http://www.seelectronics.com/
Thanks....
Sorry to hear that. Just for reference, I dug out my old late 1970s dual-impedance SM58 (not BETA) and it weighs 295g, Also it's worth noting that that the Shure website lists the current SM58 as weighing 298g but the SM58 BETA weighs 278g.
Your figures are as correct as Shure state, sir. (Their given weights on their website are : SM58 298g ..... Beta58A 278g). However, the current crop of bona fide SM58s are weighing in at around 320g, by their own admittance! I've returned the Beta for refund and actually may start looking at other mics instead of Shure....EV/Rode/Sennheiser maybe.
-
Did you check the links I listed...? There are many better ways to check if your Shure is real...
Yes I did check them and many thanks. I'd had to look through several web sites to find what was in just one of your links. The final check is that the Beta weight is under 'whereabouts' what Shure states. The internal wire colours to the 3 pins is also incorrect and the increased handling noise ain't good.... the Beta is a fake.
Lots of info about this subject... I bought a Shure sm58 from a well known south of England shop in 2009. I just bought a set of digital scales I thought I'd weigh the mic. It weighs, (with mesh cap), 323g. The Shure website says it should weigh 298g. Shure UK are not exactly enlightening about this. I've only ever heard of 'fakes' being much lighter. Anyone care to weigh their SM58? This latest from Shure 20/02/12.... 'we weighed a SM58 and it was 320g' Shure's own tech spec for this mic states 298g weight.
monday bump
-
...slightly off topic, but when any of you were weighing those microphones, did you at any stage think 'My God, what am I doing with my life?'...
Rotton sod you hahahah! But we caught YOU reading it! I suppose I must admit it has been a quiet week....... I'm currently going through a check on another possibly 'fake' Shure mic and although a seemingly pointless exercise, I've discovered Shure are the most copied mic about. It is a little difficult to ascertain a real one from a fake one just by looking. Weighing 'was' said to be the best and possibly final test. However, a few of us here have now discovered our trusty SM58s are 'overweight' according to Shure yet they were bought from bonafide Shure dealerships?
We have three SM58s weighing between 310 and 323g here. I'm agree with 'EdwardHimself' that full weight with cap on are the norm. Shure quote 298g.
Thanks for your interesting 'weights and measures' input Basschatters.
-
I thought it would be with the cap on, I can't see you using one without one on all that often.
We have three SM58s weighing between 310 and 323g here. I'm agree with 'EdwardHimself' that full weight with cap on are the norm. Shure quote 298g.
-
Obviously it must be the mean weight between the mesh cap on and off then
Well, it isn't that obvious as it happens. I've already emailed Shure USA to ask if their spec weight is with/without mesh cap. Shure UK couldn't give me that info.

Acoustic bass strings recommendation for a washburn ab20
mybass replied to winterfire666's topic in Accessories and Misc
hello all, iv just snapped up a lovely Washburn AB20 acoustic bass on ebay for only £95!!! i have never had an acoustic bass before and so i dont know where to start for strings. do i go for phospher bronze, half wounds, flatwounds etc,and any advise on gauges would be great too. i usually like quite a bright tone but it must be comfortable to play (not too much tension) i play mainly fingerstyle rock/metal stuff. hope someone can help, thanks in advance.
I use Martin Phospher Bronze on my AB20....pretty good. -
What does it weigh without the mesh cover?
275g without mesh cap.
-
Mine is 320g as far as I can make out, but the scales I have here aren't exactly 100%... It was bought new from a reputable dealer, it's bullet proof, sounds great and it's given trouble-free service for many years. I think if it were fake it would be much lighter, as you pointed out. I'd say the chances of yours being the genuine article is 99.999% and you shouldn't worry about it! I'm not!
Strange huh. Shure say don't buy one if it isn't the right weight, then quote sending it to them (for a fee) and they will check it. One would think that if the weight wasn't spot on that a fake mic is owned. I take your point that weighing more is better than a less weighty mic.

AS POINTED OUT BY 2X18......THIS POST IS NOW IN 'OTHER MUSICALLY RELATED STUFF'. I've got a pair of Peavey PR 15" cabs for sale...these are the molded 'plastic' type, very lightweight and easy to carry for their size. I bought them 2/3 years ago for £250 as PA backup and used them at most 3 times. Excellent big sound. (I've now 'downsized' to smaller 12" Peavey PR cabs with a Peavey bass bin). The cabs were originally owned by a guy using them for Karaoke. They have scuff marks but no cracks or dents in the grill.
2x18 has it, the crossover only allows the amp to see 4 ohms at any time.
Apologies as I'm not trying to interrupt the sale ( a very good price too for these). My understanding is that a crossover does not have anything to do with ohms, it simply 'filters' off the high end of the signal to another speaker so your bass bin cab ohm is still read as 4 ohms. (Why does it have an ohm rating in the first place?) The Hysis top cab is then also read as 4 ohms yes? This equals a 2 ohm load to any amplifier. Some Peavey power amps will go as low as 2 ohms but many amps only go to 4 ohms so care is needed. -
I have a set of Peavey Hi-sis 1's (12" tops) 4 ohm. and two 15" BW hi-sis bass bins 4ohm with poles. passive system If you are not familiar your amp would see 4 ohms a side, you plug into the bass bins where the internal cross over is linked to the tops, from memory they cross over at 180 Hz. These are old now but in good working order, tops only used vocals, larger venues we added bins for guitar bass and drums. sorry no pictures available as these are currently in my local music shop, but will pull if interested. £250 all in
The way I'm reading this...... your amp would see 2ohms per side? Do you mean EACH 12" cabinet is a 4 ohm cab and EACH sub cabinet is a 4 ohm cab? This would present each side of the amp reading 2x4 ohm cabs equals a 2 ohm load.best to check as many PA amps will not go down to 2 ohms per side. -
I have an immaculate Roland 5080 / 128 voice rackable keyboards unit. I bought it new and have only ever used it on one track in a studio. It has never been used/travelled since. I'm told by my keyboard player that it is an incredible piece of audio kit, he has the earlier 3080. There are no expansion cards with it. Bought about 8 years ago, (I think they were about £1800). All original manuals included. No original box I'm afraid. Pics show it powered on and with the start up windows. Very minor surface marks on the top and a very small scratch on the front, hardly noticeable. Asking a very reasonable £400 (compared to well used Ebay ones from the USA) with preference for collection from NE Hants or thereabouts... (I think the UK postage/insurance would be about £20/25 but this can reviewed on purchase. To be honest, the later this is taken by someone this week, the more difficult it will be for me to post due to my 'road' commitments this month). I've had this for sale for a while but I now have very limited time to deal with it until 2012. I will be travelling to the Wolverhampton area and Leeds area this week on the 29th and 30th Nov. so if anyone from around there is a definite buyer I can bring it with me. It is AS NEW.
BUMP
