1. Crikey chaps, all SOLD many thanks. Sorting postage as we speak. I may have to let you know on monday when the post office opens. Having decided many years ago to build my own basses, I went through a series of designs and trials costing a fair bit of money in wasted woods and parts. I''ve found three bass bodies origianlly of FOUR string design and goodness knows how old they are, well seasoned! Not for Fender style necks. They were being designed more for double octave necks and 12th fret / top horn end area for balance. The Walnut body did have a fretted neck on it, now missing, believed damaged badly in action! They all have "brass eyelet" neck bolt recesses. These could be altered to take a 5 string, humbucker pickups, sanded back and sprayed etc. These single pieces of wood now sell uncut for about £40 1st .. UK Rippled Ash single piece body .. with missing front control cavity cover. I think the neck pickup slot is slightly out of alignment, maybe by 1mm. 2nd .. UK Rippled Figured Ash single piece body. .. with tape holding on back cover plate. Looks like a recess routed on top to allow string loading into the bridge, likely to have been a Schaller 3D. 3rd .. Walnut front with maple back bass and a bit of glue line showing. plastic control cover, this bass did sound good with a fretted neck and a pair of SDs How about £10 each, maybe soemone would want all 3 of them for a deal? Postage .. don't know as yet, collection even better from NE Hants or meet up around the area. More info whenever needed.

 3.
Hello peeps. I'm not a very experienced player and I'm looking for some new strings. The problem I have is the sheer volume of choice is quite overwhelming. Make, model, gauge, material = a lot of choice. Any advive on what I should put on my ibanez sr500?
Cheap to expensive, steel to nickel wound etc. It is a minefeield. Then finding the right gauge. Well, you are going to have to do a bit of spending to suss the best for you and your particular bass. Maybe you can add some more info and explain to Basschatters your amp specs, preference of music as there might be someone in Basschat with a similar bass and amplification who plays similar music to you who can help. It might be easier for you to cross reference then. On my ash body fretless bass and Fender Roscoe Beck fretted I use Galli Nickel wound ( they call them "Rock Stars"!) and they last a real decent time. If your bass has a denser wood, Bubinga or Wenge for instance, maybe a through neck construction, this wood has a lot of mid range "support" to the sound so you may find another string would suit better. \
hi. i am soon to be the proud owner of some decient bass equipment, my question is do i need to insure it seperate to my house insurance, if so can anyone recomend good insurance companies. just joined band so hope to be gigging soon. bass: g&l l2500 cab :bareface compact amp: to be brought, £500-800 your help would be appreciated, jon
Joining the MU gets you public liability insurance. Victor C Knight up in north London seem to do a pretty good rate for music equipment. (Hope I haven't repeated anything here).

FORGOT TO ADD THAT THE PRICE INCLUDES UK POSTAGE. 2+2 as in 2 per side of headstock A second hand full set of Black Schaller tuners, M4s with all retainer screws and washer and top nut. From my old fretless of many gigs. They can obviously be used for a project or painted up as an "as new set" as they worked absolutely fine. You can see in the pics that there are paint chips. The nut hole into the headstock circumference/width is almost 12mm, close to 1/2 inch. I think these are going at £55/60 new a set, correct me there if I'm incorrect.
10.
Thanks mate. Injury happened over 15 years ago. CNS rupture to my right ulnar co-lateral ligament or 'Goalkeeper's thumb' as it is known. Basically, if I pick play or anchor my thumb for finger style the whole hand swells up and goes numb. I was told that surgery to correct it wouldn't make any difference, due to the age of the injury... indded, it might be worse afterwards.
you are getting lots of advicce, hope you don't mind a thought .. Here is a site fro something different, maybe it can help at least with helping play other instruments. 11.
Selling AS A PAIR £40 Fantastic sounding jazz replacement pickups, loud and 99.99% noiseless. I bought these umpteen years ago and they were and still are LOUD. Powered by a single 9v battery. They easily answered back to drummers and large stack guitarists, marvellous! These were the first type of SDs switcheable Jazz pickups with a very high output. They were later replaced with another 3 switch mark 2 version but with less output. (I still have a set on another bass). They were then replaced with the 2 switch model but I don't think these are made anymore. This particular set was on one of my own built fretless basses for years so are marked and the underside wiring will need to be extended in length to reach the control cavity, so a bit of work needed with a solder iron. I would set these at a slightly less height to string than normal. The switches I think are great as you can easily cut that bit of "boom in the room" bottom end or add that little bit of top to the sound etc. I also have the original wiring diagram with all the pickup specifications and blurb.
Bump
 12.
i read somewhere that if you soak your strings in methylated spirits they come out like new. i tried it today with purple meths.... i soaked my strings in a jam jar in meths for 20 mins, took them out and wiped them off. dryed them with a hairdryer and hey presto they sound good as new. a good money saving tip
Alcohol from a chemists is v good too. Boil them in water too, a few minutes, dry them out and there you go.

 17.
Hey, I know this has been bought up before, but it’s a re-occurring problem. We have a gig on Sunday, four bands, we’re on third. I’ve been asked to bring all my gear to share, because “One of the bands has a guitar amp” WTF!! So among the other SIX guitarists, and THREE Bassists only ONE of them can bring their amp!! How do they practise? I have lent my amp out once before. And it got broken. Not dented or scratched. Fried. Not sure what they put in it, but it completely killed two Hartke 210XL’s and my Hartke HA3500 Head. I went out the next day and had to buy all of my gear again. £887. I lent it to two bands, so first band said “It was working when we used it” and second band said “wasn’t working when we used it”. Thus both avoiding blame. I really don’t want to bring my nice amp on Sunday now. But then again it kills me to have all this nice gear sitting at home, and here I am considering buying a crappy amp just to lend out at gigs. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m going out my mind here!
Be nice but say no, you have suffered, at your own financial cost, the breakdown of your equipment becuase you have lent it out before and had it returned damaged. You can also charge, say £10 per band?

 19.
I stopped repairing amps for a living about 17 years ago. put a lot of old and new valves on ebay last winter and I was amazed at how much they went for, 12AU7 (ECC82) wasnt really a popular audio valve, more common in TV sets, but audiophile Hi Fi freaks from all over the world were even buying old untested second hand ones that I used to buy new for about £2.50. Real anoracks go on about the shapes of the getters and things like that, as if it really makes a difference that they can hear. £12-16 each is about fair I reckon if there new and branded.
Thanks for the info on those, I really am outa touch with this stuff. I've priced them to move them out of the box in the garage and I guess ebay may have conjured up a dazzling price. I sometimes figure its easier through Basschat, hopefully someone gets a good deal.
 20. SOLD A few years back, touring with my Aguilar pre amp, I had a set of spare valves. At the end of the tour, these valves went "missing", presumed lost in transit. A couple of years later, roadie off the tour presented me with this particular set of valves which I don't think where ever the correct ones for the Aguilar and since the Aguilar was sold a few years ago, have been in storage since. I'll shift them at a reasonable price, which I don't know what it should be per valve because I just am not up on the valve price. The 12 au7 seems to go for between £8 to £25. What should I ask? If anyone has use of them and wants to spend £16 (plus postage) for the 4, I'll post them off. Hopefully there wouldn't be any problems with them and I have no way of testing them but if a Basschatter buys them and finds a faulty one, I can sort re-payment per valve. Anyone capable to advise me on the prices, please do.
 21.
£5 Includes UK postage. Ongoing clearout of stuff.... This is a spacer "bar" for a Schaller 4 string (bass) bridge in black. Unused as far as I can tell and 3mm thick (I have a few and the others have been used) . Sits neatly under the bridge, can add a bit of "weight" to the bridge structure (and yes, I know that can start a discussion for weight versus sound etc.!) but it does agood job for helping the string height on some instruments. (I think it can cost about £9/10 shipped from a shop normally). You can send a cheque or PayPal as a gift to me.
BUMP

 23. THE NEW TCT AND BOOST ARE SOLD AND THE USED TCT IS NOW SOLD SUBJECT TO THE USUAL PAYMENT ETC.... I have two Bartolini TCT units. (bass/mid/treble) on board EQ. They need a single battery each to run. One is used @£15 from an old bass of mine. The other "newer" one @£25 (picture shows a "nameplate" under the unit) is unused sold as new. There is also a Narrow Band Boost @£5 that my note says it was for use with this later version but I never used it, sold as new. I used Bartolini EQs for many years and found them to be effective and not over the top onboard EQ systems. I am sure I have some old wiring diagrams for these EQs.
