  1. Are you hitting the pickups by chance? They can be hit down against the foam or springs and when they spring/return back up to the screw height, can make ‘knock’ sound.
  2. https://www.realelectronics.co.uk/manufacturers.html I think this company is the official repairer one for MarkBass in the U.K.
  3. If money isn’t the problem the U.K. (made in Brighton) Barefaced Super Twelve is one of the tops, very lightweight and will take lots of energy with clear bottom end. They do come up here S/H now and then but…very expensive brand new. The new MarkBass single 12” cabs could be a great alternative. Good luck, always a dilemma!
  4. Excellent deal off Paul.Bigthumb, all sorted within a few days....Cheers Paul.
  5. I think it can be in line with any other amp to speaker situation as it doesn’t ‘draw’ on the amps impedance….so you could be running a 4 ohm amp into 4 ohm speaker(s) but still hook this up to the system without affecting the ohm load to the amp. I have one of these, they are very good and at last, your own dedicated bass monitor! The volume isn't anywhere near as loud as your main speaker but at ear height, especially in the acoustic setting, it gives a great ‘ear’ experience.
  6. Solder station.....power supply that you can attenuate and keeps the heat up when soldering, decent ones around £50-80 or more on Ebay
  7. .....but did Ben move to Canada some years ago?
  8. I’m sure it was a SM58 vocal mic, maybe the D12 drum mic would do a good job?
  9. My DB teacher of some years ago used a Shure mic wrapped in thickish foam, ‘jammed’ between the bridge feet with the mic head facing upwards in line with the fingerboard……plugged into a 30 watt valve amp and 12” speaker, great sound. (That teachers name was Roy Babbington).
  10. I find most side dots to be too small especially on Fender basses so always use 3mm white as white side dots when building or refurbing a bass. (I haven’t found 3mm luminous ones so far). The problem is if the fingerboard is ‘thin’ at the edges a clever bit of repositioning the centre of a new 3mm dot is required.
  11. Very fast deal, posted and speedily received 4 control knobs, even through postal strikes....cheers Jono!
  12. Yes...stick to Neutrik or Switchcraft........check before purchasing a new ready made cable too.
  13. Another great deal of a book from Mickeyboro, always a pleasure, thanks Mick
  14. We had an excellent gig, decent turnout considering it was -10c on my way home...at least new heaters inside made for a nice warm room!
  15. I will be playing this coming Thursday 8th Dec 2022 with The PAPA GEORGE BAND at the Farnham Maltings in the Cellar Bar starting 8.30pm. George has run his own bands for decades playing his brand of blues rock, U.K. and USA blues awards, he is a real deal musician earthy and great attitude. He was regularly joined onstage by Gary Moore. Brendan O’Neill is on drums who was Rory Gallagher’s man for many years and Nine Below Zero’s…we’ve all ‘done our time’ on the road. It’s an arts centre so pay at the door entry on this one….
  16. Top writers of their time, such a big selection and style of songs through their time together from their first pop albums and singles through flower power, a top rhythm section and melodic playing from McCartney and Ringo. Yes they are of a certain period in music at that time but still sell and two of those ol’ boys still tour. They must be very happy to have come from very humble backgrounds and are still able to play music into their 70’s and get an audience. Not bad when you think about it!
  17. I would like front ported bass cabinets too….the new cabs in a 2x12 are shorter and wider than older 2x12 options, I would like to see a side front port on those.
  18. You should email direct to Seymour D in America....companies need feedback direct to them especially if you are buying new pickups with continued faults. They may even, if you are lucky, ask for the pickups to be sent to them (via their UK distributor hopefully) and should replace them for you.
  19. I book a fair amount of gigs and I've already said to one 'agent' for a 2023 gig, one band I book out won't be doing what would have been a welcome gig, simply because after fuel and a few expenses, each member would have got home after two days driving and a late night gig, with about £80. For older and those closer to being a professional aka earning from music as a living, we are all counting the cost of recent and exorbitant increases and so we should be trying to raise our fees many of which have simply not gone up for well over ten years and more! Maybe a little at a time but it simply has to be done.
  20. What an interesting instrument, I’ve never seen one of these….and out of interest, would you know the scale length?
