Welcome Ant. As mentioned, there aren't any really bad basses these days. My tip would be to try the basses you are considering on a strap before you buy. The thing to avoid is neck dive if you can. It's an added hurdle to overcome that you don't need starting out. Issues such as the height of the action, the pick ups, your choice of flats or roundwound strings etc, can be sorted down the line.

Thanks for this but excuse me... my brain Hertz.

Don't forget unicycling! Glad you've got that sorted. It sounds quite nasty. There is nowhere on stage neither left nor right where you can stand with that condition and wearing glam rocker pants! Folk would think you are smuggling kiwi fruit.

Too much? I think not. Gold would complement the rich burl.

It's that or a truss I suppose. When us blokes get to a certain age and body shape we can't count on predictable danglage any more. That's why we enlarge our gussets I guess.

Possibly. The bigger high street outlets are also a threat remember. Foulds, one of two decent sized outlets in Derby, has recently expanded. They've opened a guitar, bass and sheet music shop in the Strand Arcade. The original shop in Iron Gate continues to sell a wide range of instruments and accessories. I've always liked Foulds but then it is handy for me to visit. I like the new outlet even better. They've got plans. I imagine it is getting hard for folk who don't have easy access to the larger towns and cities where such outlets can still be found. You could argue that they are causing the demand for online shopping though and look at this whole Internet is killing local industry notion with a slightly different perspective.

I feel a little uncomfortable if I dress on the right. It's not pleasant and it often results in crotch manipulations that make it look like I am a fan of Michael Jackson. Ow!
-
Cool. I've lost count of how many builds you've done in a relatively short time. Not counting batch-builds, you must surely be breaking some record or other.

Pining for a pee eh?

Welcome Ray. Is it not intended to be tuned B E A D G C?

Come again? PS: As you were. I've just had a look at the search results for wizard thumper. Once you get past the entries dealing with wizard abuse self-help groups all becomes clear.

I was thinking of putting in set of P&J Nordies in. I might one day but it sounds grand with the Duncan Designed P&J as it is.

I've got to say. Since I have been playing Jack's VM Jag from his win at the bash last Saturday, my playing has changed for the better. It's a proper little funk machine.

That's the spirit! If you can't live with your mistakes you'd never get to the end of a project. If you're any good with the file after you've cut a relief from the corner plate, it'll look intentional.

It doesn't sound bad passive either but that the beauty of it as a starter for modification; either way you get a result.

Short Scale 'Thing' (23" scale Headless 4 string)

Simple to cure... Just use a soft headed mallet next time instead of a hammer. -
It's a great bass to start with I have recently discovered. I am watching this with keen interest. Your ideas are interesting and you should end up with a good little player.

You're gifted mate. I hope demand does not turn a pleasurable pastime into a chore for you if you do take orders. -

Wow. The implication is that Jabba's basses are turning folk to knife crime just to get to the head of the queue to own one. Nice. -
I wouldn't use this project as a first lesson in soldering if I were you. If you really want to though, get your mate to give you a crash course in the basics and some homework to practice on that sets you up for the job at hand. It's easy when you do all the right things. I enjoy it.

Is there any chance of you posting a couple of frame grabs please? It's lovely. PS: Just saw the image of the top after I posted. As you were. It's fanflippingtastic!

You'd like it at The Holly Bush near Ripley. At one of their OM nights last year the house bass combo was on the right. I struggled a bit. I'm assuming they have it there still of course.

It makes a difference to the contact area between the cab and the stage. That in turn affects the coupling of the cab. More surface area equals more coupling. It often makes a difference to the sound but it depends somewhat on what the stage flooring is made of. PS: Turning them on their side may not allow them to work as intended if they're supplied with rubber feet. If you have locking castors, try leaving them on for your next performance. The worst that can happen is that you have to fiddle with your eq a bit more.
