I think it's a great idea with the advantage that you can conveniently have all of your kit nicked in one little opportunist's swoop. Nicely executed though. I wish you well with it.

Do you know of anyone with a bench saw (disc blade)? Band saws tend to be best at the shallower cuts. With a disc saw you can make more than one pass usually.

Ah, the wisdom of age.

They weren't bothered, they had millions to burn.

Was that an 18V drill? For that large a diameter of hole-cutter you'd need something with a lot of torque and a decent size of grip to hold it steady.

I am not sure I agree with the 200Hz figure as an absolute or even an approximate as you have noted. I believe the threshold would change a lot depending on things like the age of the subject and the health of their hearing system. If skeletal perception is right (and I can easily believe so) it's still directional. I mean, sound pressure waves will still hit one side of you before the other and if your perception is sharp enough or you are familiar enough with LF you will instinctively know where the boom is coming from. There is also evidence that people perceive differently because they don't possess the same receptors and cell clusters in their brain stem. It's a fascinating subject that is a little beyond my comfort zone. I'd like to see it tested but I am not going to look for YT clips right now because I've got a couple of things coming up. Would anyone care to look for supporting evidence for both Breadbin's and my assertions in the meantime?

That reminds me what a sales person told me in a high street car audio shop once. He was trying to sell me a sub. I declined and said that I didn't want it competing with the sound of my motor when driving and anyway, it's a mono signal and I like my stereo to be full range. He replied by saying that the human ear was incapable of telling from which direction bass sounds come from so it doesn't matter. He also went on to say that the ear can not tell what note is being played at low frequencies. I quietly walked out and left the cloth-eared chappie to it.

With masking tape, the solvent in the polish will soak through the tape and make a gooey mess of the adhesive. If left for any length of time the solvent evaporates and it becomes tedious to remove the adhesive. Mr DelVar's recommendation avoids that by removing the adhesive before any deposits are made on the fretboard. Cheers Skank! I will adopt that method from now on. It's far easier than using proprietary devices such as these: They are intended more for fret dressing anyway.

Welcome Dave.

Unfortunately this is true. I'd argue however that we should choose someone who is plug-ugly to present the BC vlog so as not to distract from the instruments themselves. Some of our members are far too good looking and would upstage even the boutiquiest of basses.

A quick brush off with a shaving brush to get the skin flakes out from the bridge and pick-ups. Occasionally I'll clean up a fretboard and rub lemon oil in. I don't do a high mileage on any of them though.

Cheap 5string double ball end strings?

Newtone Strings . They'll make a set for you for less than you'd think. -
Semi Hollow Bass (and another two...)
SpondonBassed replied to Jabba_the_gut's topic in Build Diaries
Perhaps not on a conscious level but sub-consciously, it is easier on the eye. You might not know why but it looks better anyway. -
Great to hear! Enjoy.

Toe Tappers and Funker's Social Club (T2FSC). This should remind some on here of the old Wheel Tappers and Shunter's Social Club from telly. Warning: The above link contains traces of Bernard Manning.

New 5 string Warwick Corvette $$ style build
SpondonBassed replied to Jimothey's topic in Build Diaries
Don't forget the mittens to go with the scarf! Nicely ambitious project. I wish you well. Especially removing the fretboard - I hope you get some images for us during the process. -
Think of it as a term of endearment.

Funky McFunkface. Hmmm. I like it.

But you have the triangular hats, right? Otherwise it's the Goods Descriptions Act for you laddy!

I have D'Addario half-rounds on two of my five strings, the Ibby and the Pit Bull. I have tapewound Stainless Picatos on my Steiny five. The only bass I have now with roundwounds is the B2A and they are lightweight superwounds. The B2As pickups work well with these giving a full bottom end to the otherwise light superwounds. My Vantage fretless has Rotosound 88 black nylon tapewounds - warm and thumpy. I like the half-rounds. On the Ibby I have more than enough bass and sometimes I will roll it off a bit and boost the mids and highs at the preamp but they sound fine flat too. There's a nice interaction between bridge and neck pick-ups midway in the blend knob's travel that would work well for solos I think.

Aw, that's lovely. Until you explained that I thought it was slightly pretentious for a band name but forgave it as it sat well with many other, often hugely, pretentious 80's bands names. We went by the name Holiday Mood for example.

I never twigged! Doh!!!

Are you sure you aren't a closet keyboardist? I might feel similarly if I owned any tweeters but I don't have any HF tendencies in me.

Right. Melfunkshaun! The OP can't have this name until I have exhausted all possibilities of getting a Melvin and a Shaun in my band and then being happy that they aren't going to assassinate each other because it sounds a bit like Melvin jumps Shaun's bones as a part of the performance. It's that or bully some innocent musicians into changing their names by deed poll on the thin promise of a lucrative five year touring schedule.
