Line 6 M13 - effects and a 28 second looper
tayste_2000 replied to 6stringbassist's topic in Effects
Using a Gator bag at the moment, think I'll sell it soon as I've missed having it setup in a flightcase with everything setup permanently. It will fit on a PT Jr just with nothing else -
Cheers for all the advice and encouragement lads, I'm off to play Soldiers for the weekend so I cant make any more contributions for a while, anyway it is a healthy debate and music is after all supposed to be fun as well as everything else. I intend to take a stab at using some BT's, if it works great, and if not..well nobody died!! I have a much better clue as to the pros and cons, snags and tech stuff now than I had before I started the thread... Cheers... Dave
I know quite a few bands that just use an Ipod to run their backing tracks, so it can work just fine. We've just chosen to go a much more in depth route than that to control other elements of the show.
God forbid!
Well yeah to be honest, we'd have one type of artist, someone on stage with a guitar, maybe not even that if they feel the guitar isn't really integral, it can just go on and on.
That makes it ok, then. :lol
Justifies it a hell of a lot better than some guys playing in a pub just refusing to change anything what so ever.

Well I've read most of this thread it's amazing how polarised people are about this subject. My band plays to backing track, our set is a tidy 30 minutes and played with 2 wav tracks. On these backing tracks we have intros and outro's, 808's, pianos, violins etc. What is also going to be happening soon is these backing tracks are going to trigger DMX lighting fx and vocal processing (verb and delay etc) Now we could get other members in to play these parts, I could also get a lighting guy in to do the lights and a sound guy to trigger the vocal effects in just the right place, but we just can't afford to tour with like 10 people or so to run the act I particularly don't want a dedicated 808 player . Also adding members to bands is more than just people playing instruments, there is a band dynamic, relationships etc. Also my band plays some pretty big stages, we use this space to perform in, can't do that with a 3 piece orchestra and piano player on there as well as the person controlling the lights. None of our fans feel cheated by the show, it's not like we have vocals on the backing tracks, just instruments that add to the sound. These are instruments that were used on the album and played in the studio, sometimes by session people, they aren't integral to the song but they do make it sound better. If we took away everything that wasn't integral to the music where would we end up? Singer songwriters? As stated a lot/most pro bands do it, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters etc

Question for owners of Pedaltrain with soft bag
tayste_2000 replied to 1976fenderhead's topic in Effects
Hmmm not sure, I mean it's well built and therefore weighty but the Jr is always manageable. The best solution is what I did for the past 3 years, have a HC version and get a case for the board and when doing gigs and tours use the hc and weekly practices and jams stick it in the bag. Best of both worlds is really where it's at -
Question for owners of Pedaltrain with soft bag
tayste_2000 replied to 1976fenderhead's topic in Effects
It's not to bad really, but I eventually had flightcases made for my PT Jr's and then eventually bought the HC version of it. Personally if my board is worth any considerable money I'd always get the hardcase -
Thought I'd make a new sale thread as the last one is a bit messy. First up is a great condition Pedaltrain Jr, I say great because the board is mint and the case has a few scratches here and there, nothing major but hell it's a flightcase. This is the newer version with the PP2 rails underneath, obviously don't need it anymore. SOLD Next it's the pedals Ok so here we go Tone Factor Hellbaby - Uber rare 25 made, never going to be made again. This is the king of boosts, it can get from gritty to distorted but the amount of gain it has is just insane, really recommend this to people with tube amps but great whatever. This will get you heard in your band, just before the speakers fly out of your cab and hit the singer in the back of the head - SOLD Soundclip (Not great, hard to demo a boost without clipping the thing recording it) http://www.grygrx.net/Pedal%20Reviews/Tone...%20Hellbaby.mp3 Toasted Modified Dod Grunge - One of a kind, painted in a glossy grey with metal black knobs, very cool if you are into the whole stealth pedal thing. It's just insane amount of dirt, real wall of fuzz sounds but retains low end and definition really well. - Withdrawn Soundclip http://www.grygrx.net/bass/tayste/Dod%20Modded%20Grunge.mp3 I'm open to offers, not really up for anything trade wise but will consider part ex's if your looking at getting rid of something I can sell Cheers

Ok just got a few more questions if you don't mind. Is it possible to cascade the channels into each other? Are the outputs line or instrument level? Is the DI protected from Phantom Power? (Say some numpty soundman turns it on live is the box going to explode?) Is this robust enough for live use? It will be racked of course Does it get particularly hot during a 2 hour running period?

Yes and relay based bypass so you can have delay trails as the true bypass cuts them off but it does do both. -
Took them 2 weeks to build my 8x10 and 4x10 which involved a week of waiting for the custom cut grills, the cabs were done in the first few days.
-
He told me he could do a 15w all tube bass amp for under 750 he didn't have an exact price but for sure under that.

I'm really looking forward to trying that 2x12.
Right, finally got my first pedal board together, rather than just having some pedals on the floor so to speak... Here it is... Boss TU-2 Tuner -> Ashdown Lomenzo Bass Hyperdrive -> Boss Bass Flanger BF-2B -> Boss Bass Chorus -> EHX Bass Micro Synth XO -> Boss Digital Delay DD-3 All mounted on a Pedaltrain 2, powered by a Diago Power Station (Except for Micro Synth). Kirlin Patch Cables used throughout (with the exception of one, soon to be replaced!) Looking to add a second DD-3 or a DD-6 to the end after having a play with 2 together last week... amazing :-) Cheers guys.
If you get a Gigrig virtual battery you will be able to daisy chain that Micro Synth
Kiss your overdraft and kidneys goodbye.
Apart from a Matamp GT200 and 8x10 will cost you at least 500quid less than an Orange or Ampeg equivalent and neither of those are hand made to your specification

Line 6 M13 - effects and a 28 second looper
tayste_2000 replied to 6stringbassist's topic in Effects
It also has the one shot feature of the DL-4 Personally I've only found 2 issues with the looper both I knew about before I bought it, inability to store loops and undo is only one layer but other than that I've found it more useful than my Maneco Nanolooper, PDS2000, Boss RC-20XL, EHX SMM/H, Boss DD-20, also the delays are better than these as well. I honestly can't say enough good things about this pedal, I've heard they are releasing a smaller one soon this year M9 Another great thing is you can upgrade firmware so it's more future proof than most other things we buy. -
The looper is crap on this. I took it back to the shop and traded it for something else. The DL4 is better.
How so? The M13 does 28 seconds but you can the old DL4 trick of half speed where u get 56 seconds, plus undo and feedback controls, you can also control feedback with an expression pedal, you also have reverse which I don't think the DL4 had and you can use any effects in the unit at the same time which again DL-4 didn't have. I'm a huge advocate of the M13, it's allowed me to sell off over 40 boutique pedals and I haven't missed them one bit, the beauty of it is it's works like a pedal board individual stompboxes and you on more to get your combination, 12 fx per scene allowing 4 fx at a time 1 of each bank but each bank isn't the same fx you can have bank 1 moving top to bottom delay, synth, octave. I've taken this on about 15-20 gigs now over the past 2-3 months and done a further 30 practices only ever had one problem with it on one gig which since hasn't happened again. But it allows me to have one pedal board for the 2-3 bands I'm in plus knock together recording boards really quickly and have ambience boards setup. The footswitches are not the same as the X3 ones I've not had a problem with any of mine and I'm not sitting in a bedroom playing in my socks this thing is getting jumped on night after night. In terms of interface this is much better and easier to use than the Timefactor also has way more options some of the things I enjoy doing with it and expression pedals are relational gain increase to volume decrease, so as I increase the gain the volume decreases which is something I've been trying to do with analog for years, I can also get whammy sounds and to me they are better than the Whammy, I can do multi layer octaves such as octave down with a synth string line 2 octaves above my bass note. Where I think people go wrong is they just get sucked into the options, I bought this and within 10 minutes had replicated my band board that I had been using for 2-3 years and then I moved on to replicating the board I use in another band. I've not yet nailed my huge 22 pedal board I had for studio work but at the same time I've been touring for the past 6 weeks so not really had time. Hope this helps
