1. It was the pickups and the circuit of a ZZB that was going in to the bass above
2. Done the VVT and the bass sounds carp. Not the pickups, they sound fine, but its my fretless Peavey, and it just doesnt sound like a fretless. Then again, it was a fretted but then defretted, then had a tiger maple board fitted and i have the feeling defretted bases never match up to the sound of a fretless built from scratch for purpose An utter waste of time and effort ! I should just go buy a proper fretless i think... and hurl this thing at the binman
3. Thanks Eric, on the strength of your photos, i believe i had the same wiring, and still got silence Changed switch for new one, changed pots, even swapped switch wires over ( reversed ) and still zip I'm ditching the switch and going v v t. Its all i can do Cheers for hunting down your long lost ZZ
4. Thanks all - info & advice appreciated Going with 500k/500k/250k/ 0.047uF or 33
5. Hey scoob, you're not that far from me - do you ever get to Witney ? We've been playing this for over 3 years or so now. You're welcome to come round and go through it here I cheat on that section, cos no one cares Everyone's boggling at the gitwrist so i just make life easier for me with most bass lines
6. Thanks MBA Is it true that if you play with your vols ( or is it tone ) on max, the cap has no affect , or very little until you back off slightly ?
7. THanks Gran - much more helpful I was def thinking of 500 for the Vols, but undecided on the Tone. I doubt anyone would suggest 250's for the vols, but wanted to see if anyone had, and if so, what tone pot they'd have used. I have enough pots here to experiment, but am lacking in caps. Only got 0.047's
8. I see you've put some real thought and not enough emotes in your post
9. What have you tried on dual humbuckers basses with Vol Vol Tone setup ? I need some feedback on the results of different layouts on V V T wiring 500k vol 500k vol 500k tone with which value cap 250k vol 250k vol 250k tone with which value cap 500k vol 500k vol 250k tone with which value cap 500k vol 250k vol 250k tone with which value cap 250k vol 500k vol 500k tone with which value cap 250k vol 250k vol 500k tone with which value cap I think i've covered the permutations Just looking at options, and i guess some will be horrible ..
10. Thanks Eric Probably will go V V T in the end.
11. Yeah it was a bit nasty IMO, too.
12. And a track with a bit of Phil showing his magic as well as PJ
13.
Percy was one of the reasons I started playing bass and one of the reasons I bought a fretless I still reckon PJ's the best out there.
Same here on all 3 points He's the most unusual bassist i've ever heard. Ended up with 3 Brand X albums ... Unorthodox Behaviour .. Moroccan Roll ( what an album title ) .... and Masques Have some more PJ on me
14. I've wired it stewmacs way as well and still nothing.
15. I checked the output of both pups before putting them in the body, and the vol pot has been changed for known working pot, and so that leaves option 3 which is what i'll try next. After that, i'm dumping the switch and going V V T
16. The switch is one of these I even bought the above switch new from Allparts to replace the old one just in case it was duff. But this did nothing. I then changed the Vol pot just in case that was duff, but again, silence. I found an alternative wiring diagram via Duncan diagrams and tried that, but still nothing Next try will be to dump the new switch, and just wire the thing up with Vol Vol Tone and see if that cures it
17. I'm miles away from you in Oxfordshire, so you cant really take a look Not sure what you mean by whats going on with the switch terminals. The switch has 3 tags on the bottom ( the 2 outside tags have the pup hots attached ) the middle tag runs a blue wire to the left tag of the vol pot. The side of the switch is where the pup grounds are attached But i've labelled all that anyway in the photo
18. Anyone else got a ZZB ? Need photo or diagram of the circuit

21. This isnt a national security secret ...name the pub ! Then everyone can benefit from avoiding the place
22. 4 basses ( 3 fretted 1 fretless ) but only take 1 bass to gigs ...a white Retrovibe Aero 1, one of only two made, with a soapbar i fitted at the bridge.
23. Butler also used Orange amps / cabs and did so all the way through this live performance in 1970 Its more obvious from 7.00 minutes onwards
24. Thanks fella - no hurry, as its just my project bass
