1. Hello Effects Sages! I'm pretty sure this is what I'm after, but just wanted to check with someone that owns one before buying. I currently use a Korg MS2000 synth to create sub-bass synth sounds, but our live gear set-up is getting silly and sound men are running out of DIs; we really need to strip it down where possible. (We also take a Hammond Organ, Prophet Synth and Roland Keyboard, not to mention the laptop and various mics that are required for extra percussion/glockenspiel). Basically my question is: If I were to get an MXR M288 and turn the Dry knob all the way to the left, will it cut the natural bass signal leaving me with just the octave below rather than a blend? The videos I've watched seem to suggest that it would. It looks like an excellent pedal and has an analogue tone and true bypass! Any help greatly appreciated.
2. Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synthesizer should be perfect. Search google and watch the Peter Stroud demo video, he shows how you can get a guitar tone using it.
3.
from your list i'd go for the carbon copy or the echo park, carbon copy is defo the warmest but i'm a sucker for tap tempo!!!! i had the ehx smm w/h but i found it to be a bit sterile, tho there are some interesting and tweakable settings to have fun with. edit: aye, the echo park's just a tad noisy on a daisy chain. ^_^
Yeah, i've heard from quite a few sources that I should step away from the ehx smm w/h. Was worried about the noise on the chain, so also have decided to leave the echo park too. I've ordered the Digitech Hardwire DL-8 that dannybuoy suggested; the true bypass and warm tone really sold it for me (i'm pretty sure it has tap tempo too!). I think the organ player in my band is going to get a carbon copy for his hammond, so hopefully I'll get to have a little blast on that too at some point! Thanks for your input!
4. Cheers for the heads-up dannybuoy! I think i'm going to give the DL-8 a go. I've watched the demo videos and it looks like what i'm after. Thanks again!
5. What do you reckon? I've read through all the previous threads regarding delay/echo and I still can't decide. I want something that I can use with bass/baritone/guitar. It needs to be pretty subtle and warm rather than turning my signal into alien-speak. Looking to spend between £90 - £135. I'm thinking either: MXR Carbon Copy Analogue Delay, Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai, Boss DD-7, Line 6 Echo Park, or Danelectro Reel Echo. They all look pretty good...HELP!!! I'm not sure that I need a looper, but then again, I don't really know until I use one. I guess the real answer is to go and try them out Is a DD-20 as hard to use as it looks?
6. New album – ‘Those left behind’ We’ve been a little quiet of late, but we’ve been busy and are very pleased to say that after many hours, weeks and months of work (not to mention an injured back, a broken arm, a broken foot and a near-fatal hard-drive failure) we almost have a finished album. The music is done and the artwork is finished (and looks fantastic). The album is entitled ‘Those left behind’ and it’s the best thing we’ve ever done. We’ve stretched ourselves further than ever before and created something that actually represents what we do and that we’re really very proud of. There are two new tracks on our myspace page now and we’ll be putting more tracks from the new album up over the coming days and weeks so watch this space. Laser Ghost Recordings We’re delighted to announce that Those left behind is being released on Laser Ghost Recordings, a newly-formed label with distribution in the UK, the US and Japan, meaning that it should be available to buy from your local (and not-so local) record shop. The official release date is not yet confirmed but you will be able to get your hands on the CD early by coming to the launch gig! Album launch gig – 3rd October 2009 We’re also very excited to say that we’ll be launching the album at a very special gig at the Croft in Bristol on Saturday 3 October. We’ll be sharing a bill with the legendary Telescopes, the Fauns (launching their debut album) and Presents for Sally (launching their debut 7”). It promises to be an absolutely epic night and, as I’m sure you can tell, we’re getting really rather excited already. 7. That's insane! This customisation thing has gone way over the top. What is wrong with brown or even white?
8. Wayne, he's quite clearly more essential to the future of music than a Page/Hendrix hybrid, he can't let idiots like you stand in his way... :snob:
9. Whoever put £100 - £150 for an entire week surely must survive on Pot Noodle for every meal! Even a bloody Travelodge for 5 nights would cost £280 alone without meals or any bass fun!
10.
I've got the right band, right material, right line-up, decent following, decent studio, excellent studio engineer... Just don't have any time to make the record now with the day job taking over! Ouch.
Yep, exactly what he said. Getting the right sort of attention now, so I guess it's paying off!
11.
Fine!
Sorry AND KEV. I only mention the others cos I've actually met them in real life
12. Like everything else in life I think you get out what you put in. There are very few people who are naturally amazing at anything; it is a combination of desire/interest and hard work. You will always feel this way about anything if you give up so easily. Why don't you have a couple of lessons with someone who knows what they are talking about? It will open doors and may re-ignite your passion for bass.
13.
Now that's an idea. Let's rename it BBC...
NOOO!!! That would only encourage, you know, him. I feel I should welcome you too Chris (even though it's kinda my fault that the For Sale section is gonna bankrupt you).
14. I'm going to try to come to this and hopefully might be able to arrange some sort of convoy from Bristol. I will bring my US Vintage '57 Precision blondie. I will contact Shockwave, joegarcia and Mr. Foxen to see if they're interested
15.
Double sided sticky!
Would this actually work for the pup cover if I use it to anchor my thumb? Surely there'd be too much movement?
16. OK so now I've had it for a couple of weeks, and am pretty sure that (for the moment) she is THE ONE. Tone-wise, it is exactly what I was after and it fits in (and cuts through) really well in a full band situation. Her first outing at a gig is tomorrow; she looks like this (stock photo): The only issue is that she was shipped with the chrome bridge and pickup covers unmounted. I was wondering if there was a particular "best way" to fit them as it would appear that I have to drill new holes into the body to do so? Also, am I going to have to remove the bridge cover every time I change the strings? Also, I absolutely love the White Blonde colour (the ash grain looks lovely underneath). I'm still not so sure on the anodised gold plate. What other colours would look good? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Babbers! Kieran
17. White Jazz! I reckon it fits in better if you're going with the same theme as the images you've got on myspace. Let us know how you get on and when we can watch it.
18.
Thanks for the quick and easy transaction Kieran. The interface is now up and running
Lovely stuff, glad to hear it! Send me a copy when you've written and recorded the next Boho rhapsody.
19. Sounds good. I'm with the rest of the Bristolians! Anyone got a spare shipping container for transporting the House of Bass' stuff?
20. Acquired my delightful new White Blonde American Vintage Precision on Friday. Played it at rehearsal yesterday and it's exactly what I was after, so for the foreseeable future it looks like I'm going to be GAS free (for Basses anyway!) Well, maybe i'll need another one at some point! Sold the Hudson PBS6 and the Stingray to fund the majority of it, so I'm back to two basses. So far this year, I've bought 2 basses, sold 2 basses, sold some effects, kept the same amp/cab set-up, and acquired a free Hammond Organ with built in Leslie.
21. My band is very democratic. We all seem to write songs (granted some more than others), then the others write their own bits. No arguing, no hissy fits, no one gets told what to play. Everyone just seems to be on the same page. We're all 24-28.
