RE: Markbass, for me the GB Shuttle is far more HiFi than the LMII. My LMII sounds more warm and vintage-y to me most of time. Depends on your bass and playing style I guess though - and having said that it does pump out cracking mids.

So much about fretless tone is in the fingers! (sounds cheesey, I know but its true) I bet you could get that tone out of a squier VMF

Itd be nice to track down the owner. I'd do it even if I only got my 80 quid back for it (tbf I probably wouldnt be too bothered if I didnt get anything back from it, good karma and all that! ) Dont like Foderas anyway
Why would you hire a girl who might not be right for the job passed the fact that she has boobies and looks cute, over a guy who might be just right. It obviously works both ways, but just hiring someone to be 'cool' gets seen through almost instantly! Just hire a bass player! Si
Plus f***ing one. If this ad were for a male bass players only then there'd be a heck of a stink. Go by talent and dedication, not gender and age. -
The precision pick up was single coil until '57 I believe. For theatre work,I've always used either a Fender Jazz or Precision and never had a problem. It would also be worth investing in a Volume pedal for major volume changes or to just cut your signal during quiet moments.
Oops missed the '51 bit! Stupid me
surely the s/c pickup would buzz like the proverbial under all the theatre lights?
I though P bass split coil was humbucking...am I wrong?
To be fair to the cellar though, 99.99% of the people in there have no intention of buying, just herds of scruffy kids with no money wanting to try out £1000 basses, I reckon after dunno 5 years of dealing with that day in day out I might put up a sign too.
Some of the best musicians I've known would fit the scruffy teenager/student look.

GuitarGuitar in Glasgow (down by the tron) Very friendly staff, always seem keen to have a chat and let you noodle on a bass or guitar - amazing stock, everything from ricks to sadowskis to MMs and fenders. Merchant City Music in Glasgow See above regarding staff, the stock is a lot smaller and less varied but still good. Small shop, but deffo worth a visit.

A MM nice Bongo or stingray HH...or a G&L of some sort...yum yum would do that job fine

On a slight tangent does anyone else hate strings with threads?! They look cool but after youve used them once or twice they fray and leave fluff everywhere and look scruffy as hell >=[ Especially true with my flatwounds that I'm always taking on and off when the mood takes me...
-
Study Paul Simon's Graceland album. Khumalo is an amazing fretless player.
-
On a slight tangent I do have days, some times weeks when I can hardly get a good tone from my bass - so much so I cant play for more than 5 mins without getting frsutrated and puttin the guitar back. I've been playing 2 and a bit years now and I'm not a bad player but these down spots happen to everyone!

You'll do it better 2nd time round.
-
Go off and focus on your other instruments for a while. Just play what you feel like, you shouldnt have to force yourself to play (unless youre being paid!). I'm the same. Sometimes I can go a week just playing guitar and not touching my bass.

Alastair replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
I think the 5% are the ones who have never felt the need for a 5th string and hate putting up woth being preached to about it all the time on bass forums (Ps I too am in the 5% if thats the case ) Oi, removing posts ya cheeky bugger -

"Hi-fi bass" - to me its just sterile. Bad ass bridges: Look crap, can in no way justify the price tag IMO. Most string sets sold for bass (roto, ernie balls etc) - way overpriced and usually meh gauges. Duncan Pups. Dunno why. Just never liked em. -
Can't see the issue. They are very distinctive and make a Lakky easy to spot from a distance. If you don't like them, buy a Fender...
I did.
