1. If you are having trouble writing it down Matt, Maybe play it into your DAW [even at the slowest speed you are comfortable with] And save as a midi file - that way its saved [Tempo matters not] You can then import the Midi file into any notation software [there are a couple of free one's out there] And it's then in dot form for you to see, and take in. 2.
I recently found a bunch of resources on the Philharmonia Orchestra website that might also prove handy: http://philharmonia....nge/make_music/
I have been using that site for a couple of years, some useful info there. Managed to get along to some of their free concerts & rehearsals. The samples are only Mp3, but some are very usable when layered with your own samples. Remix page is good fun with their on-line sequencer. Garry
 3. Scales/Intervals/Chord Cycles, related modes/ key sig's. Its all here on one page. The keyboard on the left hand side changes the key. Enjoy. Really cool eitherway... Laimis
Hey Laimis. Complete Musician breakdown here. http://www.grusin.net/west_side_story.htm If you can find 'America' from the same album on Youtube - give it a listen, stonking stuff. John Patitucci swings great on this album. Well worth buying/Downloading. Garry
 6.
West Side Story. It is a masterpiece, a triumph of 20th century music from one of the greatest musical minds of all time as far as I'm concerned!
Have you listened to Dave Grusin's version/Album of West Side story ? Top arranging and playing all round. 7.
How do you know him?
I would not say i know him - although i did meet him a few times. I used to spend a lot of time [quite a while back] up in Newcastle. Used to stay with a Guitarist called Paul Carr. So had many drink ups with a lot of the guys that were at Newcastle collage at the time - usually in 'Rockshots' and the 'Broken Doll' Garry
 8.
Is West Side Story not a musical these days?!
Hey Matt - any relation to Ken Potter ? Garry

 11. Can i give the Roland Octacapture a mention. It's about a ton above your budjet though. It is incredibly stable, and works at really really low latency with no problems, also zero latency hardwear monitoring. 12.
not being a synth exp but form my experience of previously owning a roland super jd it does sound like some of the fretless and acoustic bass patches in the roland. my ears (and the technology timeline) would suggest synth but my fingers are saying strings
I am sure someone will come along who knows for sure. The double stops and shakes do sound like mod wheel & pitch bends though. Garry

Although it does sound like the DX7 Fretless Bass patch, The same one as 'Take My Breath away' - Berlin. And just about every Pub Duo using Backing tracks. Garry
 14. I have just been listening to that.Great Tune. It sounds like Keyboard Bass, Garry

 16. Looks like the deal has expired Jake, I posted the link last weekend. I think it was one of those get in quick deals. Its worth checking in at sweetwater.com from time to time, They are always doing deals on download software. Garry
 17. If you are after some Dance type ducking/Sidechaining or over the top rhythmic gating effect. This little freebie is just fantastic. You can pencil the gating patterns in by hand. Pretty much any Rhythm you want or can think of. Info here - http://www.araldfx.com/sg1/ Download Here - http://www.araldfx.com/downloads.php Enjoy Garry
 18.
Play, play some more and play again! By far the best way to exercise the hand and build up stamina and dexterity is to simply play. It's all about muscle memory and repetition is the key.
This above for me. Throw in something musical why you are doing it, thus helping with ear training, and it becomes enjoyable even more. I agree with JH. Garry
 19.
The recording... LOL, I just noodled around on a blues for ages, 1 take, no prisoners taken so warts and all.
Hey Jake, nice sound on the Bass. The natural decay of the instrument is lovely and it sounds like its not set up silly and very low, action wise. Nice full and articulate sound. Solid consistent intonation makes it much easier to listen to solo Bass for six minutes.... Garry
 20. Yep another one here to hear some harmony. Good stuff though dude. Looks like i live just up the road from you [Canvey] Garry
 21.
unless I was going to take up tap dancing, is just used for low bass notes on hold. I do find that it is safer to play in socks as there is more chance of accuracy. With shoes on - unless they were winkle pickers - I just end up triggering the wrong note.
So you are saying that you play a Synth with your feet ? Garry
 22.
What do you call someone who plays music?
A DJ ? Garry
 23.
If I put a Mahler Symphony staff in front of them, could they sightread it first time?
To be honest Geoff, there would be plenty on Basschat or any other " Musicians" forum who would make a quick exit, When they came face to face with that. Garry
 24.
^ Brilliant!! Well done Gary, that's great news mate Nice track too. Good work.
Just been demoing Reason 6 rewired into Studio One V2. Pretty cool man, i see why you like Reason, some great stuff in there. Looks like i might have to bite the bullet with R6, some great sounds in there. Studio One is totally Gap-less, so you can jump between the two for editing, without stopping the sequencer, and with no glitching or Audio drop outs. Garry
 25. A few days ago, i just had this track licensed through a Library company i use, for a Sony PSP mini game. As a back ground looped instrumental [Release Jan 2012] This was at a Buy out price, and quite a good payer. Someone listened to the track on Soundcloud then contacted me for possible Licensing. Then my Library company did the rest. So it seems Soundcloud could have good benefits after all...
