  1. Second gig for my originals band last Saturday evening in Reading. Gig put on by a local promoter who has delt with our guitarist before. All new to me and was slightly nervous as only required to take Squier PJ-555 and pedalboard. Happy to find Markbass lm3 and 2x10 cab supplied. Small pub but a sizable enthusiastic crowd for the four bands. We were on second and went down very well. Friendly sound man and I could hear everything fine which encouraged me to do my backing Vox. I'm not great but it's so much easier when you can hear yerself. Lots of positive comments from audience members and one of the other bands want us to do a gig with them in September.....so far so good.
  2. The drummer from one of my old bands from the 90's contacted me to ask if I could play a gig with them as sadly their bassist had died suddenly. Went along for a practice last night and was blown away how good they were. All sixtys covers but not many that i'd ever played before or was even slightly aware of. I'd been practicing at how for the last week or so but still couldn't nail some of them. A Doors number and a Moody Blues one left me just sitting out while I recorded it to play to at home. Also wanted me to do Penny Lane but in a different key to original so that's on my to do list. A number by The Creations sounded great and Summer in the city went well but my fave of the night was Riders on the storm... nailed it imho. Lots to learn for next week but up for the challenge.
  3. Levellers last night in Basingstoke, first time I've been to a gig with silent stage. An odd experience. Sound was pretty good except for bass and I wonder if it was better further back as we were front row. Tiny speakers to fill the front of stage. Still had a great time and the band were excellent. Mid seventies EB3 was nice to see even if I couldn't Hear it too well.
  4. Levellers next Sunday
  5. Some phone footage of our performance on Saturday...plenty of room for improvement, most obvious being lead vox too low in mix. Psychosapien.mp4
  6. First gig for my first originals band, been a year in the making after losing a couple of drummer on the way. Turned up expecting to play 45 minutes but were asked if we could do an hour as the other support couldn't play due to sickness. Bolstered the set with four covers, Psycho Killer, The Specials Concrete Jungle, Another Brick in the Wall part 2 and Tracks of my Tears. I'd describe us as a shouty punkish garageband so we caught a few out with Tracks but I loved it when Big Country used to do it live so we gave it a go. A good crowd and very responsive. I used Barefaced One10 stack with Markbass LM3 playing a Squier pj contemporary I bought from here last year. Everything sounded great from where I was and we had plenty of favourable comments after. Landlord wants us back even after we explained don't have a following.....which was nice.

  8. Really good practice tonight, our first go at a 40 min set for a support slot we have next month. Took my new zoom h2n to try get a half decent recording. Managed to get into the room with plenty of time to set up and checked the input signal was not clipping whilst we played at full volume, check. Throughout the evening I was constantly watching the mic lights to see if they we flickering, a warning the input was clipping, but no all ok....excellent. The practice went like a dream to be honest we even threw in a couple of numbers we'd never played together at the end, one being Polk Salad Annie...loved it.... our new drummer just lapped it up. We're a bit shouty screamy, punkish outfit and did it our way so I thought how lucky I was to grab that with the zoom.....Got home and plugged headphones into h2n....gotta say I was a tad disappointed. Note to self......remember to press RECORD.
  9. When we have a break I'll try your settings also. Where do you position your zoom in respect of the band. I guess the drums would be behind the mic or do you have the band set as if on stage and pop the mic facing you all?
  10. I've been tempted to get something to record rehearsals and gigs with for a long while and just gambled 99 quid getting the H2n after reading this. I'll have a play with it this Friday at practice with the manual gain set to zero and I'll try the 2ch setting as the band will be set up all around the zoom. I just wondered if you have the lo cut on or off when you record with yours? I usually record with my iPhone so hopefully this will be an improvement.

  12. I got one from bax...it's an Epiphone for the sg bass but my shortie fits snug... they also do the Gibson version for more dosh but sometime have a good price reduction. Here's mine. and you can see the room at the top....bass stays in place as the body is a snug fit...also there's plenty of room for the headstock angle. Just fold a duster up under the body, just to increase the angle a bit more but I'm just being extra careful.
