1. One thing about the neck dive when sitting down, do you play with the bass lower when you stand? The best bit of advice I ever heard was in a Billy Sheehan video from the 80's where he said that he set the strap length so that the bass was at the same height whether he sat or stood. I've done that ever since and leave the strap on whether I'm sitting or standing so you get the benefit of the strap stopping neck dive even while you're sitting.
2. Very cool. I really like the truss rod cover. As you said, it's the little details.
3. 2015 was a bit of a surprise year, all things considered. I had given up on bands and gigging and was quite content just recording music at home. To end the year in a band, gigging on guitar has shifted the goalposts somewhat. For 2016 I have a few goals, primary among them is to write some new material for the band and get recoding with them. I have about 50 non-band related songs in various stages of composition and recording. I want to finish a lot of them. My work ethic for the last couple of years has been, frankly, shameful. I started recording some of them seven or eight years ago and then drift onto something else, never completing a lot of them. To that end, I want to participate in every month's composition challenge, get back into the habit of writing and completing sings. Other thsn that, the goal is to have a good time all of the time.
4. Well, that's rather tasteful. Nicely done.

6. 2-record version of Are You Experienced and some socks... which I shall play bass in.
7. Thanks. I really, really like it. I wanted to get the Lo-Z pickups and 2 band pre so was specifically hunting for the LE. I much prefer them to the AFR and vari-mid setup which came shortly after. It's almost Warwick-like in tone, has a lot of the same growl with a slightly bigger low end and slightly tamed high end. It's still a slim neck but it's much more substantial than the mid 90's wenge necked SR I used to have, quite round at the back and very comfortable. Overall it's really light too. I'm quite chuffed.
8. You just don't see suits of that quality at all these days
9. I've seen the headstock shape before so I had a quick sniff through the u-box to see if they had one, thought it might be a Bossa. While there, I found the greatest brand name ever. Up yours, Fender, I want one of these. I realise this doesn't help in the slightest. You could try searches on some of the Japanese retail sites, sort by highest price first. There are a few videos of her out there but nothing I could find showed the headstock up close
10. I recently picked up this 89 SR800LE, it's quite black indeed.
11. There's no such thing as hair metal, just a silly term applied long after the bleached and pouffed ones had bought flannel shirts. Therefore, Death Metal for life!
12. Lovely stuff, sone very rare birds in that pic. Sarzos and Peaveys in general are desperately overlooked. I picked up this one earlier this year on a local site, low price but there was just no interest in it. It's interesting reading people's comments on the inspirations for it. To my ears, there's a real MM vibe from the pickups making me think he looked to his old Sabre for the tone, the SB for the looks. Great bass for the money they go for, cost less than a second hand Mexi P. 13. That's nice, never saw one of them before
14. Take the black bass out of the black case and then take that pic
15. If you don't build, they may not come. I don't know who they are, but we won't find out with that attitude
16.
Speaking of G&L, my revelation of the year was dropping an MFD into a Squier Matt Freeman, a sort of poor man's L1000. It easily holds it's own against my other (much more expensive) basses
Very nice. I see the little switch, is it serial/parallel or did you install more of the L1K wiring options?
17.
Humm, I'm going to sound stupid here but what exactly would count as 'Thrash' - I know its a sub-genera of metal but I've no idea which bands we'd be talking about here. Anyhow, probably glam for me as I like a nice bit of melody more than noisy hi-gain stuff most of the time.
The first rule of thrash is that it died in 1992 and nothing recorded thereafter qualifies, even if it does mimic the blueprint. There were some fine UK thrash bands back in the day - Acid Reign, Xentrix, Sabbat, D.A.M., Re-Animator, Slammer, Onslaught, Toranaga and more. Check them out, they're well worth hearing. Thrash was more than just the US bands who get bandied around all the time.
18. Doug is ridiculously good. I'm surprised to see him leave TE after all this time.
19. I was a thrash orientated youth. In hindsight, it's clear that glam had a fancier caliber of female so now I have my regrets. I'll happily listen to both these days.
20. Get a Precision and play with your thumb anchored on the arse of the neck with some treble rolled off. Keep the EQ on the amp reasonably flat. Most of it will be in your right hand technique.
21. I didn't find one and the kit got sold a couple of years ago... which did increase the potential bass storage capacity, or BASTCA, if you will.
22. Good stuff. Just make sure Guitar 2 doesn't feel like he's being picked on. As above, positive reinforcement all the way.
