  1. What type of glue did you use ? If it's cyanocrylate type, it won't work. Just wipe the old adhesives and put some fresh ones, just like Douglas said while I was writing.
  2. This is more than a bargain, it's in fact indecent and ridiculous. Go on, grab this quick.
  3. If you want to get the wood tone out of your double bass, this is the best solution, not cheap, but terrific : https://www.thomann.de/gb/dpa_d_vote_core_4099_bass.htm Somebody made two soundclips comparing the DPA 4099 to the David Gage Realist Wood (put some headphones) :
  4. Everything above is real common sense and very wise. A spec that you must know is the real sound pressure level of the cab you want to buy, because an increase of 3 dB's means doubling the output power. Try to find a second hand Schroeder cabinet rated at 4 Ohms to match the Ashdown head you wish to buy. Those cabs have a real high efficiency around 104 dB's when most of the other manufacturers are around 95 dB's... meaning at least 4 times less output power. http://www.schroedercabinets.com/cabinets.html#cabmini8l Why don't you run through the PA ? We have a Bose L1 PA for years playing for weddings, restaurants, parties and it's just perfect (I simply add a small bass combo with a heavy mid sound for my personal comfort when needed). https://www.thomann.de/gb/bose_column_systems.html
  5. The Ibanez Ashula's are pure marketing object as they are a regular 4 strings fretted bass tuned from E to G coupled to a 2 (regular D and G) or 3 strings fretless bass tuned from A to G, so redudant and useless. Gilles Coquard needed a fretted high register because he plays lots of chords, hence the low end fretless. I tried a half fretless 5 strings Leduc a few weeks ago and didn't like the approach as the high register doesn't sing as much as the low one on a fretless.
  6. Listen to these, it's a Leduc U-Basse 6 strings with the B, E and A strings being fretless and the D, G and C being fretted. Put some headphones !
  7. Yep, and lots of Americans.
  8. And here are the winners : https://gleam.io/GIuXH/sbl-2018-ultimate-bass-gear-giveaway?utm_source=yt-lessons&utm_campaign=sbl-ultimate-bass-giveaway-2018&utm_medium=video&utm_content=bass-head-blew-my-mind
  9. The winners have been announced. I'm not part of them, ... as usual.
  10. This ACUS One ForBass is a bit unique and not that expensive if you consider the 400 Watts (RMS), the 10" high excursion (which means that it can handle more low end than a conventional 10" speaker and is a well known fact in the high end hi-fi), the 3 independent channels, the built-in reverb effect, the compressor, the notch filter and the ability to be used with an electric bass as well as an EUB or a real double bass. The only other competitors with the same specs are in the same price tag ; the Schertler Lafaro and all AER bass dedicated combos being way much expensiver. The GSS are really cheap, but not powerful : http://www.guitarsoundsystems.com/catalog_gss-bass-and-upright-bass-combos.htm Take a look here to see which combos Gollihur sells and their prices : https://www.gollihurmusic.com/keyword/2-COMBO_AMPS.html That said a double bass sounds better with smaller speakers like 8" or 10" (a 15" sounds awful with a double bass and a 12" must be very precise to sound right) and as I wrote I'm looking for something with the same built quality and specs as my AER BassCube v1 (v1 stands for first version with 3 channels, the second generation having only 2), but way much lighter and this ACUS One ForBass meets everything I'm asking for. Concerning the old technology in AER amps : why change something that is working perfectly and their service is just fantastic. I sent my BassCube to their factory last year and everything that was defective or subject to become defective has been changed for a ridiculous fee and the amp has been upgraded to the last version (are you sure it's an old technology ?) for free !!! And I was asking if anybody ever tried an ACUS One ForBass to notice that the thread is simply derailing (as often, hélas).
  11. It's a €99 Euros option...
  12. The AER BassCube 2 costs new around £3000 GBP !?! The first version like mine was slightly cheaper, at around £2800 GBP...
  13. The onboard effects seem to be 8 different reverbs. That said my AER BassCube v1 has also 3 inputs and an assignable compressor, plus two power amps (340 + 60 Watts) , but weights 25 kilos, which is almost twice the weight... And the sound is impressive too.
  14. Has anyone tried this ACUS One ForBass ? https://www.acus-sound.it/en/products/one-forstrings-one-forall/one-forbass-detail.html On the paper and in the videos, it looks like the perfect amp for me as my AER BassCube v1 is now too heavy for my broken (destroyed ?) back. Below are the videos in delightful Italian :
  15. Erm, do you use your gain control the correct way on your amp ? If yes, there will be no volume difference between the two basses. If you don't know how to do, just ask, there is absolutely no stupid question.
  16. Over the years, I've owned around 200 basses (I have a list somewhere)... Now, I only have 10.5 as my new Leduc U-Basse 6 Fretless is under construction : Berne Harpobasse 4, Byl Custom 6, Esh Impact 6, Leduc Contr-U-Basse 6 L-009 Moaï, Leduc Masterpiece MP 628 SF, Leduc PAD 6, Leduc U-Basse UMM6, MTD 635-24 Fretless, Status Electro 4 Fretless, Warrior DM7 Signature Custom. Six basses must go : guess which ones. 🤔
  17. It's not that heavy if you take some facts into account : graphite neck, standard machine heads, 2 humbuckers, 2 batteries and a quite thick mahogany body with a thick rosewood top. That said, it's only slightly chambered (not hollow) under the "f" hole...
  18. Hi Hugues, funny that it's yours now, we could have avoided a Tour de France. 😉 That said, if you need more pictures, just ask.
  19. And here it is : http://archive.acguitars.co.uk/portfolio/0157u-uber-art-recurve-4/
  20. Yes, it's the same bass with the same discolouration near the trussrod "bullet" mentioned by Alan himself.
  21. Certainly the most transparent preamp ever. A bargain at this price. GLWYS.
  22. My first deal here as a newbee was with Ville. Such a nice and trustful person. Hope you are getting better.
  23. The internal preamp is sonically closer to a passive pickup on all X version of EMG's.
